RE: Pakistan requirements for telecom TTE?

2008-09-23 Thread Joe Randolph
Thanks Ron. Earlier today I spent some time at www.pta.gov.pk
, but I was unable to find information on the actual
technical requirements that typically apply to telecom and/or ITE products.
For example, I would like to know if there are any EMC immunity requirements,
and if so, what those requirements are.

Based on your suggestion, I went back to the site and poked around a little
more. In the list of government sites there is a link listed for the "IT and
Telecom Division" that sounds promising, but at present that link is dead.

I will check the link again periodically to see if it comes back online, but
in the meantime I remain interested in any assistance that you or others in
this group could provide.

Hi Joe,

You should be able to find what youre looking for on/from the PAKISTAN
TELECOMMUNICATION AUTHORITY at www.pta.gov.pk . With
the short list of equipment needing to be type approved there, you might not
need to go through it, but youll need to consult with the PTA get any updated
info. Please note that that market was recently deregulated, but licenses
might still be quite expensive. However, you may know this already.

Im not sure I answered your question, but IHTH.

Mark, Andrew -

I would add that, in the case the device has modular approval, you are
compliant with radio specs (so long as you use the module within the
limitations of the grant conditions and installation requirements of the
module manufacturer). You would still need to test the complete product
against the FCC unintentional radiator (digital device) requirements (Class A
or B as appropriate to the device's usage).

If you connect an FCC approved modem and antenna (gain within the grant

the modem) to a system which is fully compliant to the standards required in
its intended environment would you have to carry out further testing on the
whole system to claim FCC compliance for the system or would it be
satisfactory to say that as the modem is FCC compliant the system (which is

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Northeast Product Safety Society Meeting Tomorrow, September 24th

2008-09-23 Thread Matt Campanella
All,

There will be a Northeast Product Safety Society / CNEC Product Safety
Engineering Society meeting tomorrow, September 24th, at the Holiday
Inn, Boxborough MA. A social hour with light refreshments will begin
at 7:00 PM and the technical meeting will start at 7:30 PM. Ian
Houseal, Sustainability Consultant with Jacques Whitford Company, will
present this months topic concerning supply chain carbon
footprinting. If you will be in the area, please feel free to join us
as advanced notice or membership in NPSS or IEEE PSES is not required.

Ian Houseal is a sustainability consultant with Jacques Whitford
Company. He leads the companys internal carbon footprint program,
ecological footprint program, and initiatives surrounding sustainable
procurement all steps the company has taken to walk the talk of
sustainability. In this role, Ian is responsible for inventorying and
reporting greenhouse gas emissions (carbon footprinting) to The Climate
Registry for the companys 47 facilities across Canada and the United
States. Jacques Whitford is one of ten founding reporter to The Climate
Registry, reporting emissions for 2007. Before joining the Jacques
Whitford team, Ian worked in the fields of urban planning, architecture,
and green construction. He holds a Masters degree in Regional Planning,
a Masters degree in Architecture, a Bachelor in Environmental Studies:
Natural Resource Policy and Management, and is a LEED accredited
professional.

Ians topic is Taking the Next Step Forward: Supply Chain Carbon
Footprinting. As we move into a carbon-constrained world, reducing
carbon emissions and mitigating climate change is becoming a driving
issue for forward thinking businesses. Some companies have stayed ahead
of the coming carbon regulation and manage carbon emissions in their
facilities through greenhouse gas inventories and reduction strategies.
These companies are learning about conducting business in a
carbon-constrained world and are prepared. For these companies,
managing the carbon footprint of products across the supply chain is the
next step in the effort to reduce carbon emissions and mitigate climate
change.

If you or anyone you know would like to give a product safety technical
presentation, please contact Paul Smith, our meeting scheduler, by email
at paul...@yahoo.com. A technical presentation should be 45 to 60
minutes in duration and be related to product safety. Although the
presentation may reference your company and its services, the
presentation must not be simply company advertising. We would also
appreciate any slides or handout materials be made available for posting
on the NPSS web site. Releasing presentation materials for posting is
desired but not a requirement to make a presentation.

The 2008 NPSS meeting schedule is available on the NPSS website at
http://www.nepss.net/Calendar.html.

Further information about the Northeast Product Safety Society and how
to become a member is available at http://www.nepss.net. You can also
contact one of the NPSS officers via links on the NPSS web site.

Directions:
>From Route 495 North or South, take Exit 28 to Route 111 East
Turn right onto Adams Place (approximately 500 feet from Route 495
North)

RE: FCC

2008-09-23 Thread Luksich Mark-TXP763
Short answer is No you are not compliant.

Mitigating points:

The first question is -- Does the modem have a Modular Approval?
If the modem has a modular approval then you are complaint.

The second question is -- Are you the Grantee of record for the modem?
If you are the grantee of record + have done regression testing (Spurs and
harmonics as reported to the FCC) with the modem installed + the results are
equal or lower then what was reported to the FCC = Class 1 Permissive Change,
and you are compliant.

If you integrate an non-modular approved radio (Modem) into a system you are
responsible for the compliance of the system and proving compliance to the FCC
(or TCB).

Subject: FCC

If you connect an FCC approved modem and antenna (gain within the grant of the
modem) to a system which is fully compliant to the standards required in its
intended environment would you have to carry out further testing on the whole
system to claim FCC compliance for the system or would it be satisfactory to
say that as the modem is FCC compliant the system (which is passive)is
therefore compliant.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Re: PSE approval of "wall wart" PSU.

2008-09-23 Thread peter merguerian
Ian,

Yes, this is correct. The importer must also be registered with METI and their
name or code in Japanese or English characters (as registered in METI) must be
adjacent to the Mark inclduing the logo of the certification bosy who
granted the Mark cert. The importer must also hold a certificated copy
of the Mark cert. You need to obtain a certified copy of this cert from
the power supply vendor who orders it from the METI authorized certification
body - then send it to your importer for their files. They must also hold
records of the manufacturer's production-line tests

If you do a search for PSE Mark in this blog
http://globalcompliance.blogspot.com you will get additional information
regarding the Mark and the duties of the importer.

Best Regards,

Peter

Dear colleagues;

We are shipping a “wall wart” style psu bought in from a separate
supplier with one of our own products.

Our distributor in Japan requires the psu to be PSE marked.

The supplier of the psu has modified the psu rating label with the PSE
diamond and also put on the name of our distributor in Japan .

Is this correct? Are we required to name the Japanese distributor of our
product on the psu? If we have more than one distributor in Japan , do we have
to put both names on the label or have separate labels.

I look forward to you advice.

Thanks;

Ian McBurney.
