Re: [PSES] Trial of units compliance but without FCC Id

2019-06-21 Thread Campling, Robert
Hi Daniel,
I am not sure the specifics regarding your question (eg. Why you are
importing), or what quantity you mean by limited (I have seen people refer to
10, or 10,000 as being a limited quantity 😊). However, the relevant FCC
guidance can be checked here:

https://www.fcc.gov/oet/ea/importation#sec3
(please check FAQ #1)

And this may also refer you to KDB Publication
741304
 depending on your situation/quantity.

Please note, not every country has the same rules as this, and in fact some
countries don’t have any provisions at all, so please just be careful if you
need to ship anywhere else in the world.

Hope this helps!

Many thanks
Rob

Good morning all

There is any FCC rule that allows temporary deploy a limited number of devices
for customer testing with you FCC Id?. This device has been tested and pass by
the lab but is pending of review by the TCB. I mean to conduct a limited trial
of units that are compliance but without FCC Id label

Thank you for your answer

Re: [PSES] {Ext} [PSES] Additional Japan WIFI Cert Needed?

2019-05-20 Thread Campling, Robert
Hi Carl,
There are two schemes to be aware of here - Japan Radio Law (JRL) and Japan
Telecommunications Business Law (JTBL).

JRL is certainly the most common (and has the [R] on the label) - this is what
the BLE and WIFI will have already.
Most labs/people believe this is enough, however JBTL (the [T] on the label) is
needed if the device connects to their telecoms network.

Both the WIFI and BLE may be subject to JTBL - eg if the BLE device
communicates directly to the internet via a phone.

Examples (although specific cases may be different):
Bluetooth headset just getting music from Phone = JRL only.
Bluetooth headset that can be used for handfree calls = JRL + JTBL.

WIFI Device that only connects to app via local network = JRL only.
WIFI Device that connects to an app that can be used "via the cloud" = JRL +
JTBL.

Depending on the device, you may need both (although JTBL still doesn’t seem to
be as common as it should be).
Happy to advise further if you have more product info?

Many Thanks!

Subject: {Ext} [PSES] Additional Japan WIFI Cert Needed?

I have a product with a wireless module that will ship to Japan. The product
category is residential and commercial.   The module already has SGS
certification for Japan Radio Equipment (WIFI+BLE). I'm writing because a
source has told me that the BLE cert will is all that I need for Japan, but
that I need to be wary of the WIFI cert.  I'm being told that Japan considers
WIFI to be included as connection to their telecom network and for that reason
requires an additional layer of certification for the end-product.

Can someone in the group shed some light on this?  Do I need to work with a lab
or can I rely upon the existing SGS module cert?

Thanks in advance,

Carl

Re: [PSES] NRTL approval

2018-11-13 Thread Campling, Robert
Hi Ian,

Also my own words, (but shamefully stolen from our website):

OSHA safety standards are part of US law and specify requirements for
"approval" (i.e., testing and certification) of certain products by a
Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL). The original intent of these
requirements was the safety of workers, but market forces and fear of
litigation have moved safety certification into the mainstream for all
electrical devices used or sold in the US.
The OSHA Product Catalog can be found here:
http://www.osha.gov/dts/otpca/nrtl/prodcatg.html
Beyond mandatory approval of products used in the US workplace, NRTL approval
is "market driven", meaning that any electrical device that will be sold or
distributed in the US may need an NRTL approval for open acceptance in the
marketplace. Without NRTL approval many retailers will not distribute a product.

Many Thanks!
Rob

Dear colleagues.

We are in the process of designing a USB bus powered audio product around 2.5W
for professional/consumer use.
The product enclosure will be UL94 5VA flammability rated plastic.
Will this product have to be NRTL approved for sale in the USA/Canada?
The EU LVD doesn't apply because of the supply voltage is only 5V DC. The GPSD
probably will!

Many thanks in advance.
