RE: IEC 60950-1 section 4.7.3.2 regarding openings in fire enclosures

2009-01-08 Thread Petrie, Craig D
There also appears to be no requirement for a top and sides of the fire
enclosure, only a specific clause for the bottom of the fire enclosure.
However I guess any manufacturer who shipped product requiring a fire enclosure
without the top and sides of such an enclosure would be quickly called to
account.

Craig

Subject: IEC 60950-1 section 4.7.3.2 regarding openings in fire enclosures

IEC 60950-1 section 4.7.3.2 contains the following paragraph:

Materials for components that fill an opening in a FIRE ENCLOSURE, and that are
intended to be mounted in this opening shall:
− be of V-1 CLASS MATERIAL; or
− pass the tests of Clause A.2; or
− comply with the flammability requirements of the relevant IEC component
standard.

Seems ok to require most of the fire enclosure to be 5V with small sections of
V1 allowed, but the above has no size restriction, which seems odd to me. Does
anyone know if this is the subject of a CTL decision or any other
“official” interpretation?

I’ve seen UL and CSA standards with similar easements but there’s a
dimensional cap (for example openings no more than 1” (25.4mm) in any
dimension).

CCC Parts Certifications and Periodic Verification

2008-11-18 Thread Petrie, Craig D
Good morning list members,

We currently have 3 lists of ‘critical’ parts from CQC for our ATMs going
through the CCC certification process:

1. Parts Modules Requiring CCC Certification

These are ATM parts and modules which have already been
identified by CQC as
requiring CCC certification at the module level – currently being worked by
the suppliers.

2) Parts Modules Indentified in CQC Product Test Reports

These are ATM parts and modules which have or will be
identified by CQC
during ATM product testing as safety critical items which will be called out
in the product CQC approval report and which require to remain on the current
supplier until further suppliers can be approved through CQC

3) Parts Modules which Require to Meet China National Standards

These are ATM parts and modules which NCR will be required to
demonstrate
that it can verify ongoing compliance of the part to China National Standards
through supplier provided data.

Could I ask any of you who have been involved in this process before to spare
a few minutes to advise (off or online) on any experience you have on handling
parts lists like explained above, the various CCC parts categories, how you
learn of new categories, and also how you meet the CQC ongoing parts
compliance verification process requirements.

Thanks and regards,
Craig

CCC Question - alternate parts

2008-10-29 Thread Petrie, Craig D
Dear experts,

The CB reports for our products allow for the use of alternates for the
majority of the d.c. powered components as long as the alternate parts
provided are to the same procurement spec's as the part listed in the CB
report. These parts are rated +24Vdc or less and the majority of them are
supplied for limited power sources. We have been informed CQC will not accept
this practice for products which are to be CCC certified. We do not
understand what added safety this restriction brings provided the alternate
parts are bought to the same spec. Enforcing this rule would have serious
implications for us. Before we do it I would like to know:

Have you experienced similar issues?
If so, how did you manage to comply with it?

Any information or advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks for your time,
Craig

RE: CCC Question - alternate parts

2008-10-29 Thread Petrie, Craig D
Grace,

Thanks for your prompt response. Do this procedure have to be followed for
every alternate part, e.g. a parts shortage of a +24Vdc, 0.15A fan would
require us to have to go through CQC change process prior to being able to
pick up a fan to the exact same procurement spec from a different vendor?

Thanks and regards,
Craig

Hi Craig,

For alternate parts, the certificate holder submits an application for change
(or application for modification, depending on translation) to CQC (not a new
application), according to a vice president of the CQC.

Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Grace

CCC Standard - IEC Equivalent request (60950 topic)

2008-09-19 Thread Petrie, Craig D
Good morning experts,

I'm working on CCC approval for some of our products but have come across a
stumbling block. The standard CCC are using for their certification is GB
4943-2001. The European equivalent version of this is IEC60950: 1999
(although I have been told not all items are the same). Unfortunately I do
not have a copy of IEC 60950: 1999 and I have not been able to find this now
obsolete standard for sale anywhere (I would be loathe to buy an obsolete
standard anyway).

Could someone possibly be kind enough to send me a copy?

Thanks and regards,

CCC Requirements for Harnesses and Manuals

2008-08-25 Thread Petrie, Craig D
Dear approval experts,

I am working on CCC approvals for some Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) at
present, and have come across some certification difficulties regarding
harnesses and operator manuals. I would be grateful if you could share any
similar CCC experiences with me, either by way of mailing list or off-line.

I have been informed that all mains carrying cords (including internal ATM
conductors) must have CCC approval. We had originally believed it was only
the power cord (from wall socket to ATM inlet filter) which required this
approval. Have you had any experience with such a requirement, and if so, how
did you handle this? What type of power cord did you have to use (our ATMs
use SJT type for external power cord and SVT type for internal mains carrying
cords)?

Also, we have been told that we must ship a Chinese Operator Manual either in
hard copy or on a CD with each ATM destined for the Chinese market. Again,
could you share any experiences you've have had regarding manuals etc?

Thanks for your advice,
Craig
