New EMC and RTTE Lists
Dear List members, I have just seen new harmonization lists in OJ covering the EMC directive and the RTTE directive. SV: RTTE EU notifications - fees
Hello Amund, In the EU and EFTA member states there are no fee for handling notification of Radio products. I believe it is also for free in the countries seeking membership in EU. Switzerland however is neither member of EFTA nor applicant for EU membership so they claim a fee for handling the notification. My advice if you have more variants of your equipment, such as frequency band etc., you should notify them all at the same time. The result is that you will only get one fee for the notification instead on fees corresponding to the number of variants. I do not know the limitation, but I think the notification will pass as long as the main designation is the same - Try it. We did also include Switzerland, because the radios system shall be put into the Swiss marked and in addition we have also thought that Switzerland accept the RTTE directive. Anyway, we have now received an invoice (CHF 200,-) from the Swiss authorities for handling the EU notification. Is that correct ? Isn't this EU notification service for free? Can anyone point me to a web page with this listing, or send it to me somehow? This is for a family tree of international EMC/EMI/ESD standards for Information Technology Equipment (ITE), to be posted on our company web site. So far this document is over 60 pages (130KB) long... For completeness, I am trying to find out when the following European standards were first listed in the OJ: * EN 55022:1987 * EN 60555-2:1987 * EN 60555-3:1987 Several references on the Internet say that these were first listed in issue C 44 Volume 35, dated 19.2.92. But the earliest listing for Council Directive 89/336/EEC that I have found is C 90 Volume 35, dated 10.4.92. And it only mentions EN 50081-1 and EN 50082-1. C 49 Volume 37, dated 17.2.94, mentions all three above standards and says that they were ratified in 1986. Thanks! SV: SV: Screened Room Ambient Scans
Hello John, The purpose of a pre-amplifier in the test set-up is to lower the noise floor. I.e. if the over-all noise floor is to high as a result of low gain in the total system, low antenna gain, high cable losses or bad noise figure in the receiving device a pre-amplifier will definitely give a better result. But if the reason for the high noise floor is due to bad shielding of the screened room it will definitely not help. Therefore I asked Russel: Which antenna and measuring receiver/spectrum analyser do you use? Information on those items may help to guide further on the issue. Is there any reason to use a preamplifier apart from the possibility that its noise figure may be better than that of the spectrum analyser? Hello George, Try a search on the IEC homepage: http://www.iec.ch/catlg-e.htm http://www.iec.ch/catlg-e.htm You shall be aware of the re-numbering of IEC Standards - Add 60 000 to the old number. IEC 512 becomes IEC 60 512, omit the A, it gives no meaning. You will find a number of standards in the search result, I dont know which one applicable to your example. Have a look at http://europa.eu.int/eur-lex/en/lif/dat/1998/en_398L0085.html and you'll see Appendix A1 that would list standards if it weren't for the fact that the Europa site seems to always blank out tables. SV: ESTI standards
Hello Amund and rest of the group, EN 300 339 is a Generic Radio communication EMC standard - Use this if no harmonized product or product family standards exists, see quoted part of scope below. EN 301-489-1 is part one of a multi-series of product or product family standards. Until now 22 part have been harmonized and 4 more have been published. --- Part of EN 301 489-1 Scope: The present document contains the common requirements for radio communications equipment and associated ancillary equipment, in respect of ElectroMagnetic Compatibility (EMC). Product dependent arrangements necessary to perform the EMC tests on dedicated types of radio communications equipment, and the assessment of test results, are detailed in the appropriate product related parts of the present document. The present document, together with the product related part, specifies the applicable EMC tests, the methods of measurement, the limits and the performance criteria for radio equipment and associated ancillary equipment. In case of differences (for instance concerning special conditions, definitions, abbreviation) between this part and the relevant product related part of the present document, the product related part takes precedence. Part of EN 300 339 Scope: The present document covers the assessment of radio communication and ancillary equipment in respect of ElectroMagnetic Compatibility (EMC). The present document may be applied to all categories of radio communications equipment with the exception of broadcast receivers. It does not apply to inductive communications equipment. Where a relevant Harmonized dedicated product EMC EN or product family Harmonized EMC EN exists, such an EN takes precedence over the present document. -- Best regards Helge Knudsen Test Approval manager Niros Telecommunication Hirsemarken 5 DK-3520 Farum Denmark Tel +45 44 34 22 51 Fax +45 44 99 28 08 email h.knud...@niros.com -Oprindelig meddelelse- Fra: am...@westin.org [mailto:am...@westin.org] Sendt: 24. september 2001 09:23 Til: emc-p...@majordomo.ieee.org Emne: ESTI standards Hi all, Take a look on the standards below.
