SV: RTTE EU notifications - fees

2002-07-02 Thread h . knudsen

Hello Amund,
In the EU and EFTA member states there are no fee for handling notification
of Radio products.
I believe it is also for free in the countries seeking membership in EU.
Switzerland however is neither member of EFTA nor applicant for EU
membership so they claim a fee for handling the notification.
My advice if you have more variants of your equipment, such as frequency
band etc., you should notify them all at the same time. The result is that
you will only get one fee for the notification instead on fees corresponding
to the number of variants.
I do not know the limitation, but I think the notification will pass as long
as the main designation is the same - Try it.

Hi all,

We have recently send a lot of RTTE EU notifications to the European telecom
authorities. We did also include Switzerland, because the radios system
shall be put into the Swiss marked and in addition we have also thought that
Switzerland accept the RTTE directive.

Anyway, we have now received an invoice (CHF 200,-) from the Swiss
authorities for handling the EU notification. Is that correct ? Isn't this
EU notification service for free?

Hello Bob,
According to the CEN web-site the standard is meant to be used with the EMC
directive, see:
http://www.cenorm.be/newapproach/cen/stdlist.asp?dir_area=89/336/EECprod_fa
m=CEN/TC%20150

Directive area: Electromagnetic compatibility (89/336/EEC )
No information available about the progress of the work for this directive

Emne: Looking for Official Journal of the European Communities, C 44 dated

I am looking for a listing of electromagnetic compatibility standards
that comply with Council Directive 89/336/EEC, that was supposedly
published in issue C 44 Volume 37 of the Official Journal of the
European Communities (OJ) on February 19, 1992 (19.2.92). Can anyone
point me to a web page with this listing, or send it to me somehow?

This is for a family tree of international EMC/EMI/ESD standards for
Information Technology Equipment (ITE), to be posted on our company web
site. So far this document is over 60 pages (130KB) long...

For completeness, I am trying to find out when the following European
standards were first listed in the OJ:
*  EN 55022:1987
*  EN 60555-2:1987
*  EN 60555-3:1987

Several references on the Internet say that these were first listed in
issue C 44 Volume 35, dated 19.2.92. But the earliest listing for
Council Directive 89/336/EEC that I have found is C 90 Volume 35, dated
10.4.92. And it only mentions EN 50081-1 and EN 50082-1. C 49 Volume
37, dated 17.2.94, mentions all three above standards and says that they
were ratified in 1986.

Thanks!

Dear David,

Switzerland recognizes the EU RTTE directive, you may find the appropriate
standard at the list on:

I just investigated Hungary and found the following variances for radio:

A Hungarian national (local manufacturer or importer) is responsible for
compliance including signing the Declaration of Conformity.

The user instuctions and DoC must be in the Hungarian language.

Annex VIII includes the harmonized bands in Hungary. For some bands, the use
of the alert symbol is not required and neither is notification.

Unfortunatuly, the Czec directive is not available in English on the
website, so I have not been able to determine if there are any deviations
from the EU RTTE.

SV: SV: Screened Room Ambient Scans

2002-03-01 Thread h . knudsen

Hello John,

The purpose of a pre-amplifier in the test set-up is to lower the noise
floor. I.e. if the over-all noise floor is to high as a result of low gain
in the total system, low antenna gain, high cable losses or bad noise figure
in the receiving device a pre-amplifier will definitely give a better
result.
But if the reason for the high noise floor is due to bad shielding of the
screened room it will definitely not help.
Therefore I asked Russel:
Which antenna and measuring receiver/spectrum analyser do you use?
Information on those items may help to guide further on the issue.

Is there any reason to use a preamplifier apart from the possibility
that its noise figure may be better than that of the spectrum analyser?
It seems unlikely that it would be much better than that of a CISPR
receiver.

Or do you mean a preamplifier at the antenna, to send a larger signal to
the antenna cable and thus to the analyser or receiver?

SV: Screened Room Ambient Scans

2002-02-27 Thread h . knudsen

Hello Russel,

Read CISPR 22 Clauses 8 and 104 how to deal with this.

Comment: Especially the reading at 1 GHz seems rather high, which antenna
and measuring receiver/spectrum analyser do you use?
Which measuring distance do you use?

May be you should consider a pre-amplifier.

What levels would one expect to see from a scan (30MHz to 1 GHz) within a
screened room prior to testing for emissions (UUT switched off).

I'm looking at an ambient scan starting at 32dBuV/m @ 30MHz, dropping to
18dBuV/m @ 70MHz then gradually (with small peaks and troughs) rising to
 41dBuV/m @ 1GHz.

Particularly at 30MHz and 1GHz this is less than 10dBuV/m below the
 EN55022
cl. B limits. Does this (high?) noise floor affect the final measurements?

 Thanks in anticipation.

 Russell.

Hello George,
Try a search on the IEC homepage: http://www.iec.ch/catlg-e.htm
http://www.iec.ch/catlg-e.htm
You shall be aware of the re-numbering of IEC Standards - Add 60 000 to the
old number. IEC 512 becomes IEC 60 512, omit the A, it gives no meaning.
You will find a number of standards in the search result, I dont know which
one applicable to your example.
The first one is listed below:

Hi all,

Which EMC standard do apply for Residual current monitors (earth fault
monitor)?

Electrical safety is covered by the harmonized LVD standard
EN62020:1998/IEC62020:1998 Electrical accessories - Residual current
monitors for household and similar uses (RCMs).

In IEC62020:1998 they refer to an EMC standard called IEC61543, but that
standard is under consideration as it says in the IEC62020.

Maybe we should use it and discuss with a Notified Body if IEC61543 covers
all essential requirements in the EMCD.

I believe the answer is that the Marine Equipment Directive (96/98/EC) is
not a New Approach directive. Rather than the mechanism you're used to, the
directive and its amendment(s) contain direct references to standards.

Have a look at http://europa.eu.int/eur-lex/en/lif/dat/1998/en_398L0085.html
and you'll see Appendix A1 that would list standards if it weren't for the
fact that the Europa site seems to always blank out tables. I'm not sure if
it's possible to get a free copy of the full text, including the tables, on
the internet. Does anyone know?

For more info on this directive, go to the Europa site and search on
96/98/EC.

Product dependent arrangements necessary to perform the EMC tests on
dedicated types of radio communications equipment, and the assessment of
test results, are detailed in the appropriate product related parts of the
present document.
The present document, together with the product related part, specifies the
applicable EMC tests, the methods of measurement, the limits and the
performance criteria for radio equipment and associated ancillary equipment.
In case of differences (for instance concerning special conditions,
definitions, abbreviation) between this part and the relevant product
related part of the present document, the product related part takes
precedence.

Part of EN 300 339 Scope:
The present document covers the assessment of radio communication and

Re: EU Automotive Standards

2001-02-26 Thread h . knudsen

Hello Bill,
You are correct, the EU directive is 95/54/EC,the directive text includes
all requirements concerning EMC requirements no specific standards apply:

395L0054
Commission Directive 95/54/EC of 31 October 1995 adapting to technical
progress Council Directive 72/245/EEC on the approximation of the laws of
the Member States relating to the suppression of radio interference produced
by spark-ignition engines fitted to motor vehicles and amending Directive
70/156/EEC on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to
the type-approval of motor vehicles and their trailers
Official Journal L 266 , 08/11/1995 p. 0001 - 0066

You can get the text from:
http://europa.eu.int/eur-lex/en/lif/dat/1995/en_395L0054.html

If you want the figures as well you must buy Official Journal L 266 ,
08/11/1995.

You may order Official Journal from http://eur-op.eu.int/general/en/s-ad.htm

Best regards

To all,

Does anyone know which Directive and / or standard need be applied to a
vehicle fire suppression system and controls that is mounted to a vehicle.

This system detects gas and fire with strategically placed sensors and
dispenses the fire suppression at the needed location.

I've been told that the directive is 95/54/EC. Not sure if this is correct
and I'm not sure which standards apply.

Thanks,

Bill
