Sorry for the delay in responding to this enquiry, but I have been on
vacation and only returned to work this morning.

However.

Having been involved in quite a number of recent large bids and contracts in
the UK for both civilian and military use, I can say with some confidence
that there are VERY few exceptions to the general requirement that if a
product needs to be CE Marked (and thus the related technical and
documentation requirements need also to be met) for the commercial market
then it also needs to be CE Marked for sales to the police, train companies,
bus operators, government departments and services, ETC.

There are essentially NO exceptions from the need to CE Mark apart from
those stated in the Directives themselves and/or in the implementing
national legislation (as in the UK implmentation of the EMC Directive). I am
also pretty sure that the same situation applies in the majority of other
Member Countries.

If anyone needs to discuss this, or the implementation of a particular
directive, in detail Off-line then please contact me directly.

matter.

Right now I'm involved in some automobile equipment for the police,
which normally requires E marking according to directive 95/54/EEC.

EMC Folks,

I would like to append a somewhat related question to that of Kim Boll Jensen.
My question involves the PTTs . . . do they, like the US-based regulated
telephone companies possess anything like a utility exemption from mandatory
product labeling.  The practice in the US has been that the telcos have enjoyed
an exemption from the National Electric Code for central office wiring and from
FCC Part 15 labeling for equipment, employing instead industry standards such as
NEBS.  Do the PTTs have a similar exemption, i.e. do they deploy equipment that
is not CE-marked?
