The current version is IEEE299-1997. Please use this version since it
differs substantially from the earlier 1991 version. This is the version
that was evaluated by the military in favor of which MIL STD 285 was
abolished. The 1997 version is a substantial improvement over IEEE299-1991,
both technical and in flexibility. The old version mandates an extensive
number of tests, making testing prohibitively expensive (or lucrative for
the shield room testers). These mandatory requirements have been abandoned
in favor of a more flexible suggested test procedure with frequencies and
tests performed "as needed" for the application of the shielded room.

1956 was the last revision for 285. It is still being tested too, or the
levels changed to suit the particular group who are requesting the testing.

Hi all,

The MIL-STD-285 has been deleted and replaced with A STD 299 and specs.
(Also see http://spk41.usace.mil/cemp/ele10_95.html). This is the IEEE STD
299

299-1991 IEEE Standard for Measuring the Effectiveness
 of the Electromagnetic Shielding
 Enclosures (ANSI) [1-55937-108-0]

Hope this helps

Raymond,

Most or all MIL-STDs are available through DoD at 215-697-2667 or 2179.
They have now begun charging for standards so a credit card or check,
etc. may be required.

You can fax orders to 215-697-1462 or 2978.

If the std. is in stock, it doesn't take very long.

Hope this helps.
