RE: Field wiring solutions in the US.

2003-04-08 Thread Ilan Cohen

Most of you guys are probably familiar with the field wiring requirements
that ITE products must comply with. (mainly for DC powered units)

When a unit does not comply and the terminal block is not suitable for
field wiring than a manufacture has an option of using 6 leads (not a
very favorable option but it is an option) or redesign of the power
 interface.

A solution to this problem can be provided with an external box, which
will be sold with the unit. The box clearly must comply with all the
requirements of UL60950 (Terminal block suitable for filed wiring,
electrical enclosure, access to Hazardous energies, etc.).

Does any one know of connection boxes like that that are off the shelf and
are UL approved for filed wiring?
 Any other ideas?

 Regards

2003-04-06 Thread peter merguerian
Ilan,

For DC Powered units for use in Restricted Access Locations (RAL) in a CO
environment, then a a field wiring compartment or box is not required. In such
instances, either a terminal block for field wiring or 6 inch leads for field
wiring is acceptable. You may chose to use a Listed field wiring junction box
which is more expensive than providing simply a terminal block or 6 inch leads
for field connections. One such manufacturer of junction boxes is Hoffman.

Re: solutions for markings durability test

2002-08-13 Thread Nick Williams

Brian:

The poor man's answer is as follows:

1. Garage or car parts emporium (battery top up water)
2. Hardware/building supplies shop
3. Tricky. Not widely available, but often used in disc drive head cleaners.
4. Tobacconist (it's basically lighter fluid).

If you order from a chemical supplier, you will need to know that
Meths is a mixture of Methanol and Ethanol (20%/80% IIRC, but don't
quote me on that) with trace additions of a colour and taste to make
it undrinkable. See
http://ptcl.chem.ox.ac.uk/MSDS/ME/methylated_spirit.html for details.

IPA is these days formally known as 'Propan-2-ol' or 'Isopopanol'.
Since Methanol is generally a pretty aggressive solvent (at least as
far as inks and adhesives are concerned), I'd be surprised to find
many common marking systems which will survive meths but are
dissolved in IPA.

A rich man, or one looking to cultivate relations with his
accreditation body, would probably contact one of the major chemical
lab supplies companies (e.g. Merck), who I am sure will be delighted
to provide any and all of the above to any level of purity you
require, for a handsome fee!

Rgds

Nick.

I notice your location is Ireland

you might try RS Components Corby UK (and Dublin?) for items 1, 2 and 3.

I suspect item 4 is petrol by another name but do not have the scientific
background to prove it.

If you were in the USA I would recommend Mc Master Carr mail order company.
Their catalog and website is a mine of useful technical information

Re: solutions for markings durability test

2002-08-13 Thread Kyle Ehler

Hi Brian,

Get distilled water at any grocery store.
I'm not sure about the methylated spirit, but I was able to get hexane from
VWR Scientific www.vwrsplcom . Please note that any reagent grade will
satisfy, but the cheapest is the way to go. One liter will last a lifetime,
about $15 usd.

Please note that, to obtain this material you must offer the supplier your
employer's Federal EPA number.

Oddly enough, I was years ago directed by my field engineer at UL NBK, to
use WD-40 to perform the permanency test. Later on somebody tightened the
sphincter and would not accept my test data, so I was forced to purchase
hexane and use it and water for all tests (60950). All results were the
same.

Best Regards,
Kyle
(USA)

[Commercial (HazCom Solutions)]

1997-07-09 Thread Adrian Aldape
Being a subscriber to a Listserv tells a lot about your
character. You consistently read, and search for answers. In the
pursuit of answers to these questions you begin to gather data to
format solutions for your problems. In the Environmental, Health, and
Safety (EHS) business data acquisition is security and job longevity.
Most of us put the data together, but we do not make decisions on
behalf of that data.
Bara Environmental Solutions has made your job a lot easier.
The Hazard Communication Standard (HazCom) is the cornerstone to
compliance data. Without this information how could you ever succeed
in inventory control, disposal, waste minimization, safety audits,
regulatory reports, or, just meet Federal, State, or Local compliance.
HazCom data allows you to build an EHS program at your facility. Yes,
you must have (1) written Hazard Communication program (2) MSDSs for
all hazardous chemicals (3) Inventory of all hazardous chemicals (4)
labels and (5) training. Bara has built a total HazCom compliance
software program over the Internet. Over the next few weeks Bara will
begin to post under the subject heading
[Commercial (HazCom Solutions)]. Subscribers, Bara has the answer to
the HazCom problem. If you would like a brochure or information just
