Oh, so you have differential outputs? That is much better, as
it compensates for fading of the LED.

OK, the LM193 is really easy to connect. Ground is pin 4, +5 V
(or whatever your power supply is, up to 15 V) is pin 8. For
the first comparator, the + input is pin 3, the - input is pin
2. The output is pin 1. (same pinout as a dual op-amp, how
convenient!) Connect A+ to pin 3, A- to pin 2. Connect a 1 K
Ohm resistor from +5 V to the output, as they are
open-collector, and need a pull-up. This really ought to work
if the A+ and A- signals are crossing some intermediate voltage.

For the 2nd comparator, in+ is pin 5, in- is pin 6, out is pin 7.

Steve's fix confused me a bit at first, when you select a resolution and
select test, it shows a fine checker pattern screen, with a dialogue box
asking do you want to accept etc, rather than showing the real desktop.
Gave me the impression it wasn't working. Also even on a working screen,
it says "test failed" ;)

Steps 8-11 may not be useful for you, since some drivers have terrible
realtime performance (nvidia proprietary, for example).

Hope this helps

Funny you should mention that because even from original install, there
was something odd with the graphics driver. It was impossible to get any
resolution higher than 800x600 at 60hz. With windows it will do
1280x1024 at 72hz on the same monitor.

Not intentionally, but there was quite a lot of updates.

TkEMC, MINI and Keystick still runs. It's just the AXIS stuff that
doesn't work, along with the 800x600 screen resolution problem.

Thanks Jon. You're right - the waveform is from the raw photosensor outputs.
Would it be posible for you to provide a circuit diagram using the LM193
please? I have tried an op-amp (Max942) as I have a few kicking around. I
connected A+ to one i/p and A- to the other following a diagram that I found by
a University student working on a Puma. It doesn't work!

OK, looking at the very asymmetric waveforms, I'm guessing these
are just raw photosensor outputs, and not real sine/cosine
signals ready to be interpolated.  I can't tell the voltage
levels from the pic, but a simple comparator circuit should be
able to convert to TTL levels.

Don't use an op-amp, they are too slow and don't have a
"digital" output stage.  Use a comparator such as the LM193.

I guess so.  You would need digital A, B and Z signals, and a
contact closure or opto-isolator output for the limit signals,
and home switch simulation.

Re: [Emc-users] Translate EMC's interface into Vietnamese

2008-09-04 Thread Jeff Epler
Thank you for your offer to improve emc!

Axis uses the "gnu gettext" system to translate strings into the user's
language.

To create a new translation, first prepare your system to compile emc
and get a checkout of the current source code, as described here:

http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/emcinfo.pl?Installing_EMC2#On_Ubuntu_6_06_or_8_04_from_source
steps 2.1, 2.2 and one of steps 2.3 and 2.4.

After compiling emc2, you will find several files with the ".pot"
extension in the src/po directories. For each of these you copy the
file to a new ".po" file for your language--the two letter code for
Vietnamese is "vi". For example, copy "axis.pot" to "vi_axis.pot"
At the top of the file, enter some information that identifies the
translation, the translator, and so on.

Next, for each message in vi_axis.pot, write the translation. (For
messages that you skip, the original text will be shown instead)

When you want to test your translation, execute "make" again, then run
the version emc you built.

When you are satisfied with your translation, e-mail me the .po files
that you wrote, and I will include them in a future release of emc.
>From time to time, as new messages are added and old messages are
changed, you should update the translation and send me the updated copy.

There is more information about the process of producing translations in
the file src/po/README, and in the documentation for gnu gettext which
you can see by running 'info gettext' in the terminal after installing
the gettext package.

Please don't hesitate to send further e-mails if you need me to clarify
these instructions.

Jeff

Here is the real error. It looks like your X server lost its ability
to run OpenGL applications.

On my hardy machine I don't see any relevant-looking updates pending.
I also don't see any talk about it on ubuntuforums.org but I only

Are you sure you didn't change anything else? Did you install a video

2008-09-04 Thread Jack
Patrick,

One more item, you need to make sure you ALWAYS keep some kind of load on
the PC power supply when it is plugged in. Some of the older ones had real
problems if you didn't have some reasonable load on them (problem like: stop
working and let the magic smoke out!).

So make sure you have your board at least attached when powering it up.

Now newer power supplies MAY have fixed that issue. So as always YMMV.
