[Emc-users] Thanks to the list.
Thanks to all of you who offered me help to cut up the solids. Extra super-thanks to Rainer who did a splendid work to cut the part up and generate the paths. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oY7O3v6IgI0 Now I'm going to Lissabon to meet up with a guy who also runs EMC for production, who also wrote a special Board-CAD that creates the paths for machines. He will probably add a "sectional cut" feature in a coming release so it will make it easier for me to cut long boards in one piece but in fragment. BTW, I tried to add the software to the wiki but never got the Edit button. http://boardcad.org/index.php/Main_Page Once again, this list is amazing. :) Sven -- Crystal Reports - New Free Runtime and 30 Day Trial Check out the new simplified licensign option that enables unlimited royalty-free distribution of the report engine for externally facing server and web deployment. http://p.sf.net/sfu/businessobjects ___ Emc-users mailing list Emc-users@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/emc-users
[Emc-users] named parameters & parameter assignment in TFM
Reading at: http://www.linuxcnc.org/docs/html/gcode_main.html#r1 I found mention of "global named parameters" and "Sequences like # are replaced by the value of the named parameter." Under the heading "1 G Code Reference" named parameters are not offered, though: >>> A real value may be : ... * A parameter value, #88 ... <<< I finally found a buried reference here: >>> 3.6 Computing values in O-words In O-words, Parameters (section [->]), Expressions (section [->]), Binary Operators (section [->]) and Functions (table [->]) are particularly useful. <<< May I propose an entry for "1 G Code Overview" in the gcode_main.html table of contents, linking to http://www.linuxcnc.org/docs/html/gcode_overview.html ? It would be a very useful asset, I think. >From the example showing that the first assignment to a named parameter is its declaration, I infer that a named parameter is not constrained to be a synonym for one of the 5399 numbered parameters of the virtual machine which EMC2 emulates. (That's a relief. :-) It was a shock to read that the line: #3=6 G1 x#3 causes a move of 15, if #3 had most recently been assigned that value in a prior program line. In the section "3.5 Don't put too many things on one line" is there then merit in changing: >>> Similarly, don't use and set a parameter on the same line, even though the semantics are well defined. (Exception: Updating a variable to a new value, such as #1=[#1+#2]) <<< to: >>> Similarly, don't set a parameter, then use it on the same line, because assigments do not take effect until the next line. This assignment postponement means that the following two lines have identical effect: #3=6 G1 x#3(Possibly smash into workpiece or fixture,) G1 x#3 #3=6( if e.g. #3 holds the value 40.) And since #3=6 #5=[2*#3] similarly assigns 80, not 12, to #5 in this case, it is safest to place only one assignment on a line. <<< In the current text, "use and set" is actually not a problem, because that order is not affected by assignment postponement. Thus, "#1=[#1+#2]" is not an exception, because it doesn't attempt to utilise the result of a prior assignment on the same line. (Not least because there is only a single assignment. ;-) Hopefully my beginner's brain has got that sufficiently right for the suggestions to be useful. :-) Regards, Erik -- Do not do unto others as you would they should do unto you. Tom, > Even though my motor is rated at 1.25 hp, I don't think it has enough > torque to > qualify for wood routing using a bit larger than 1/4" or so assuming direct > drive. So that means for me, this would be a perfect candidate. I do not use bits larger than 1/4 except for prepping the sacraficial base board. My gantry wood router is not rigid enough to achive high cutting speeds (>200 ipm) to cut MDF/wood with the proper chip rates and a higher speed router. The result for me is I generate too much fine dust. I did some tests running at high cutting speeds (160ipm) and the mdf chips were a noticable chip and very little fine dust was created. If I can slow down the spindle to say 8-12,000 then I can get the right ratio of chip load versus lateral speed (90-120 ipm) which my gantry can handle and not generate the super fine dust. Heck, with speed controls, I can probably then use if for cutting plastics and perhaps shallow custs into aluminum. Too bad I don't live closer to Kansas.. Hope you and Kurt continue to pursue this thread further. Unexpected failures galore It's a Dell Optiplex glx280 and I wonder if that piece might be unusable. Is the AMD architecture less problematic? And is there a list of 'approved' hardware. I guess I have to delve deeper into it. Oh, would one of those step asic cards solve the rtai problem as well for me or will that haunt me forever on that box? Cheers and thanks for the help! Re: [Emc-users] nano2count missing and subsequent RTAI problem...
I found the hardware list in the WIKI. According to that the system should work. I will switch back to the build in graphics card and see what happens. I purchased a kit - Lionclaw - with the expressed intent of cutting terrain models. I am a mining engineer and have been looking for a way to create 3D models of mine plans. The less rigid unit will be fine for my purposes. I only now need a way of transforming numerical grids into gcode. Someday I will pick through the image to Gcode code and tweak it to cut my models directly. An old house - two young boys and a wife with a busy schedule (for me) keeps me from diving into it full time. I do like the idea of the washing machine spindle. I am on a lowish budget and the porter cable router is my option of necessity for the time being. You could always do what they did in Rock Springs Wyoming - hit the Walmart parking lot.
