As far as I know, yu will get issues with eral time and multicore anyway. I
might be wrong though.

However, I had serious troubles installing from live cd too. My way was to
install a srock ubunto 8.04 LTS and then add emc including kernels to that.
This *worked* even on a 4 core opteron. However on that 4 core machine latency
was terrible. I use emc2 now on a dedicated machine, which I think is a

Use that, make sure it has some cpu with roughly 1 GHz and best 1 GB Ram and
you will not regret this joice.

Just my 2 cents though

Found the the root of the problem I described last week. I was using X11
forwarding to communicate between my pc and the EMC2 host machine. I figured
this was a way to reduce the number of monitors/mice I had to have cluttering
up my work area. For some reason that is what broke EMC2. After changing to
RealVNC/remote desktop things seem to be working. As soon as I tune a loop and
spin a motor I'll be in business.

need to be doing anything else on my EMC box when it's running EMC.

The problem is EMC, ITSELF, abuses the computer a bit by running a 3-D
display
in the Axis GUI. That takes considerable resources, and unless you will be
running the GUI on another computer, or won't be using Axis, you need to
simulate that load to get an accurate reading. Also, network interfaces can
cause DMA block transfers and CPU interrupts. Clearly, you don't need
video players, music players, etc. for CNC.

then try setting the index-enable to true

 setp axis.0.index-enable TRUE

The way this works is axis sets the bidirectional index-enable signal to
true
when it is searching for the index pulse, and the ppmc driver enables
the UPC
board to clear the encoder count on that axis when the pulse is seen.
It also
signals the driver that this has been done so it can clear the index-enable
signal.

to run. Before running EMC2,reboot and choose this kernel at the boot menu.
when i reboot and choose the ratai kernel, then the computer can not go on. so i
can not use the EMC2. I want to know how to solve this problem,or how to intall
emc2 in ubuntu8.04. THANK YOU!
