[Emc-users] Merry Christmas

2010-12-23 Thread Peter Blodow
Gentlemen,
I want to use this opportunity to express my thanks and appreciation to
you all who helped me getting my feet on the ground of electronics and
digital technology again. Especially the developer team, never leaving a
problem unsolved, aided my efforts to find the threads that I had to
leave aside life's path when making decades of career in technical
management rather than following my original technical intentions. Now
that I am out of work (almost -;) I slowly get the feeling of creativity
back I had been missing for so long - it had gone away gradually, too
slow for me to notice in the beginning.

I can't give you physical gifts for Christmas, but maybe I have
something better to give you: may all contributors to the EMC2 system
take from me the feeling of doing something very useful, especially as
you do it without getting paid for it, in this world of greed and
commerce. Participating in this mailing list means more to me (and maybe
to others, too) than you may think.

Have nice holidays, stay well in 2011 and keep this EMC story as
successful as it is!

Peter Blodow

[Emc-users] Configure Z Axis home positioning with a switch

2010-12-23 Thread Dave Christman
I have configured my X and Y axis home positions using switches, but am
having problems understanding the Z axis. When I tell it to home, the
axis wants to move down (away from my switch). I realize I had to
invert the signal in stepconfig in order to move the axis down in a
negative direction for proper operation when running the G-code, since a
negative distance moves the axis towards the piece being cut. Maximum
travel for my Z axis is 4.75, and I would like to home the axis at .5
from the switch which is at the top of the axis.

Dave,
in your .ini file negate the sign of your home_search_vel value ie - if it
is positive make it negative - if it is negative make it positive
work with the home_latch-vel to get the direction you want after hitting the

It's been a while, but you might need to define Z axis limits are 0 to

It doesn't matter in normal use, as your work offsets will mean you
are working with more convenient numbers.

way if I am doing a quick cut, I start things up , home to the corners of

Re: [Emc-users] Merry Christmas

2010-12-23 Thread Ian W. Wright
Merry Christmas, jolly Sawain and a happy new year to all on
the list. My thanks also go to all those who put their time
and effort into developing and improving EMC2 and to keeping
this list going. It adds a whole extra layer onto my life
and has given me great pleasure for several years now.

I also want to thank the many developers and people who have tested new
versions
and made many useful comments on ease of use, documentation,
configuration and
other issues. Everything helps!

The progress of EMC2 in the last two years has been phenomenal, and as I
get around to it,
I try to incorporate the new features in my system here and learn how to
use them.

So, Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all of you, in the various
places where you
live and work!

Jon
