[Emc-users] WeTransfer? Anybody know anything about them?

2019-01-26 Thread Roland Jollivet
Hi Gene

Do you want to look at these two manuals? There might be useful info as in
similarities;

https://hobbytronics.co.za/Content/external/1159/YL%20Manual.pdf
https://hobbytronics.co.za/Content/external/1159/vfd.pdf

Otherwise, find your same drive sold by a 'reputable' outlet in the USA or
UK, then download the manual from their site.

Might not be, but does it properly scale ther text to fit the graphic its
wrapped around? Without that, likely waste of time.

Besides, I've given up an direct drive, so I'll see if I can make an old
cnc4pc C41 run it tomorrow. That will mean I'm rummaging thru the stack
of old printouts about 4" high in the shop to find that one. It was one
of those things I tried on TLM before I gave up and tossed the OEM and
bought one of Jon E's pwm-servo amps to drive that bigger spindle motor.
2nd best thing I ever did for TLM, best was the tapered gibs.

If I can find that printout, it oughtta be a piece of cake.

I finally gave up and clicked the accept button, but now somebody wants
to buy a big huwai smartphne from amazon, charged to my account. Tain't
gonna happen.

There doesn't appear to be anything except in the VFD manual, its still
95% chinese, in a docx format. Even the newest LibreOffice-6.1.4 screws
that up, generally rendering it as gibberish.

Currently running it in manual mode, so I practiced on the spoil board.
finding the actual cuts were oversized by using G42 when I should have
been using g41. But that seems to expose a problem when the circular cut
its to make, is smaller than the tool diameter. All I want to do is
drive the tool to drill a hole around 30 thou bigger than the tool. What
I wanted was a climb, or "chopping into" cut all the way around.

Why can't I drill a .209" diameter hole with a 4mm (.157") tool?

=
I've about give up on controlling this VFD with a pwmgen directly as I
have no way to step the 5 volt pwm up to a 10 volt pwm.

Its obvious the thing needs 10 volt signals and logic level stuffs just
won't cut it, so I've rummaged around and found an old, old cnc4pc C41
board. It looks as if I might be able to make it work. I'll see what I
can hack up tomorrow but I wish I had the OEM docs, cnc4pc has replaced
it with a new C41s and I doubt its exactly the same. This one develops
the FWD signal, relay isolated, from the presence of the PWM, so has
only a 3 wire control, ground, pwm, and reverse which is also relay
isolated. And looks to have 2 places where +10, or +12 can be applied,
but the - legs aren't common. So I'd better rummage in the shop and see
if I can find the original printouts.

Progress, but frustatingly slowly. Now why can't I drill that hole?

Cheers, Gene Heskett

Watch out for embedded trash in the download before you move it to a good
computer.
Or just print out the info from the USB booted computer.

Or boot from a new USB jump drive with only linux CNC operating system.

Re: [Emc-users] WeTransfer? Anybody know anything about them?

2019-01-26 Thread Dale Ertley via Emc-users
 Gene,
Will this work for you?
Do you have an old used computer with only linux operating system on it?
NO INFORMATION. wipe drive
Or boot from a new USB jump drive with only linux CNC operating system.
Link to that with a NEW EMAIL address from google/yahoo. Then delete it.

[Emc-users] so much for wetransfer

2019-01-26 Thread Gene Heskett
My amazon account was just hacked to buy somebody a new high dollar
smartphone.

Strange thing though, none of the links in the msg I just spotted in my
spam folder, are for amazon, all feed back to some outfit called
theblueguitar.com.

The only mention of amazon is in the displayed from address.

I wonder how many idijits will click on the "if this isn't you
link" and give them the rest of the info to actually buy it?

Re: [Emc-users] Nice manual lathe in WA (assume WA USA not WA AU)

2019-01-26 Thread Jon Elson

Holbrook H20 / H17 at a guess. Absolutely top class lathe. Maybe the best,
I would be interested to hear of other candidates in that envelope. DSG
obviously. Graziano might be in with a shout. The USA folk are probably
shouting "Monarch" though this is a bit bigger.

There's also the late Sheldon R-series. It has a whole
BUNCH of features to improve the quality of the work. So,
the spindle gearbox is in the pedestal, and the only gears
in the headstock are for the backgear. The spindle is
driven by triple matched belts, to keep gear vibration out
of the headstock. The input pulley is coaxial to the
spindle, but does not run ON the spindle, it has its own set
of bearings in the headstock, so as to not impart any
vibration to the spindle. It drives the spindle (in high
speed mode) through a pair of hand-lapped drive dogs, so as
to not put an imbalanced torque on the spindle.

The QC box has 80 speeds, operated by two wheels full of
gears on needle roller bearings.
WAY more complicated than a car transmission. The power
feeds are driven by a keyed shaft which is driven by
U-joints, so as not to deliver any radial thrust to the
apron. They also drive the carriage and crossfeed through
clutches, not gears. The clutch break-away force is
adjustable, so you can be sure in a crash it will not break
gears.

The power feed and threading feed are engaged by pulling up
on levers that lock in place.
To release the feed, you just tap the lever downward and the
lock drops out, the lever drops and the feed is disengaged.
I have done threading of fairly coarse threads at 900 RPM
with no worries at all, you can stop the feed right where
you want to.

There's plenty more to it, but those are a few of the
highlights. The Sheldon R-series was made in 13, 15 and 17"
models. My 15" with six foot bed weighs 3500 Lbs. Good for
stability. My previous lathe was a 12" Atlas-Craftsman.
The difference in rigidity is just AMAZING! See
http://pico-systems.com/sheldon.html for the whole saga of
getting it moved in and fixed up.

I am not sure if taking the whole lathe makes sense, but it would be silly
not to take the toolchanger.

Actually, it is Western Australia isn't it? The clue was in the URL

[Emc-users] ex cnc lathe

2019-01-26 Thread Roland Jollivet
Sorry to interrupt, but I just had to get this off my chest. Here in sunny
SA, this is what I saw at the scrapyard on Friday. This was a Leadwell
CNC lathe
leadwell_01
leadwell_02
leadwell_03

I have a feeling the company 'stripped' it so that they could get a better
'steel' price, rather than a reduced 'mixed metal' price.
So unfortunately all the motors are probably being stripped for copper
somewhere else.

If one wanted to make a cnc lathe, this still has all the mechanical
elements, slides, ballscrews, spindle(smooth)
What a waste, almost criminal.

I could buy it for about $500, but it's a huge 'money out' project.
But, am I being an idiot to not take it, and add it to my already huge list
of projects?
An opportunity like is seen about once in five years.
