Note that its not always a win to replace the original encoders, many encoders
used on robototics are absolute (and include commutation data) plus newer ones
(mid 90s and after) can have much higher resolution than is possible with
quadrature encoders (due to quadrature frequency limitations)

manufacturers are NOT interested in old equipment running.
what i got is scrounged off service techs and the web.

Do you think it would be very hard to get those documents?

Do you think it would be very hard to get those documents?
My luck in getting old (18 to 32 year old) machine documents from
manufacturer is about 50%. Sometimes it costs.

And how hard it would be to replace encoders?
What is the model of the robot? :)

Marius
get something with documents
its not just the motor and driver that can bite you.
i got a 6dof with Sanyo Denki planetary drives
and the encoder output is proprietary 'panasonic A'
never did get that decoded
i have screenshots and devices to capture the data

hm, hey! I got a cheap robot for you ;)
just kidding

best of luck

Cheaper:
http://www.bid-on-equipment.com/Item/191531~EPSON+TT8550+Pick+and+Place.htm#.VA9fJ0sf8v0

Depending on the voltage and current the Mesa 7i39 might work. If
voltage/current is higher than the 7i30 can do then the Pico amps are
an option,
The Mesa 8i20 (2.2kW) is probably overkill.

Otherwise, look at AMD brushless drives.
