I remember that I got a problem when I added DSA2 subkey to my old
keypair. I tried to upload the new pubkey to pgp.nic.ad.jp, however,
pgp.nic.ad.jp did not accept it.

Thanks for information.

I also agree removing individual keyservers such as pgp.mit.edu from
extensions.enigmail.keyserver and enigmail.keyservers.sample as Daniel
suggested.

As a result, I think it is the best to set both
extensions.enigmail.keyserver and enigmail.keyservers.sample to
"pool.sks-keyservers.net, keys.gnupg.net".
If there is another good pool server, it should be added, of course.

Enigmail fails to recognize Dan's messages as signed email on debian
stable. Manually choosing Decrypt fails as well (nothing happens).

The announcement was correct for Enigmail up to v1.6 (at least if used
on Thunderbird 17). For Enigmail v1.7 this is no longer required and
will be announced properly.

The traditional recommendation of the Enigmail team is to get enigmail
from whatever route you got thunderbird. That is, if you run a
thunderbird installation that you got directly from mozilla.org, then
get the enigmail plugin from addons.mozilla.org. If you run thunderbird
from your operating system, get enigmail from your operating system.

If that recommendation no longer holds, we should make a clear
announcement about it someplace.

It is actually quite easy to download and install the latest version of
enigmail or even a nightly build.

Download the version you want from Enigmail's website and then go to
Thunderbird : Tools/Add-ons. In the add-on manager, click the small down
arrow just to the left of the search box and select 'install add-on from file'.

For what it's worth, I'd just like to let you know:
Enigmail Version 1.7, which will be a significant improvement
(especially regarding a convenient handling of encryption),
is around the corner.

I'd strongly advocate against using outdated keyservers. PKS 0.9.6 is
11 years old. I don't know if this version is one of those known to
mangle subkeys.

This server is no longer accessible. It still has an DNS record, but
every try to access it results in timeouts. I don't know of any other
public LDAP server. LDAP protocol is mainly used in corporate
networks. It's a pity that there's no working public example.

[Enigmail] Ubuntu uses old enigmail-Version

2014-07-03 Thread Alexander Buchner

Hi,

if some people on this list use enigmail with Ubuntu, I would kindly
ask them to support the following wish (bug report) for Ubuntu to update
the package to a recent version:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/enigmail/+bug/1296699

There is already a debian package for version 1.6, so I thought it
would be easier to convince people to update the package in Ubuntu too.
