Patrick I am sorry I may not have been clear.

The email being attached is not and never was encrypted to me or anyone else.
The email being sent, containing the attached email, is being encrypted with
PGP/MIME. The recipient can decrypt the email they receive. The recipient can
see there is a .eml attachment. Opening the the attached email it *appears*
blank (see attached), but if you view the source of the attached email you can
see the contents OK. If I do the exact same but send the email and
attachment unencrypted to recipient they can view the attached eml with out
problem.

I have seen this too but I considered it a separate issue. In the case you
describe what I am seeing is PGP/MIME email decrypts I can see the body of
email ok and I can see attachments are there but when I open it tells me they
are empty. This is harder to work out as it is not every email with attachment
only some. As work around if you click "forward" on email the attachment opens
okay from the new compose window.

[Enigmail] issue: forwarding emails as attachment results in the attached eml being displayed as empty when viewing

2017-09-26 Thread diggler
Tested on:
Ubuntu 16.04 / Thunderbird 52.3.0 / GnuPG 2.1.11 / Enigmail 1.9.8.2 /
OpenPGP/MIME
Debian 8 / Thunderbird 52.3.0 / GnuPG 2.0.26 / Enigmail 1.9.8.2 / OpenPGP/MIME
Windows 7 / Thunderbird 52.3.0 / GnuPG 2.0.30 / Enigmail 1.9.8.2 /
OpenPGP/MIME

All 3 were used to test sending and receiving

The problem If I forward an email as an attachment and have enigmail encrypt
the sending email to recipient, when the recipient tries to open the attached
.eml file it appears blank in the thunderbird window. not even to / from /
subject info is displayed. Viewing source shows the content of the email

Conversely if I forward an email as an attachment but do not encrypt the email
to recipient is able to view the email with out issue.

This has been tested forwarding both encrypted and non encrypted emails.

Yes, 8192 is non standard but what you link to is not correct for real
world front end applications but 4096 is not too big to be default, if
it is why do lots modern interface default to larger than 2048?
examples: enigmial (cross platform) 4096 key, openkeychain (android)
3072 key, gpgtools (OSX) 4096, gpg4win (Windows) 4096

[Enigmail] fingerprints primary versus sub?

2014-07-16 Thread diggler

Hi

I am a little confused at how or why enigmail chose to display a key
fingerprint.

If I use the command line and do

  gpg --fingerprint my key

The result gives me the fingerprint for the primary key.

If I use the key management of enigmail and right click on my key and
select Key Properties, enigmail shows the fingerprint for my sub key.

This seems contrary and very confusing to every other gpg tool I have
used which will show fingerprint for primary.

Why does enigmail show fingerprint for sub and not primary? Can I
change it?

I am using enigmail 1.6
