ok, lets rephrase my question.

is there a way to get a client's pid from its Window in X ??
e saves the pid internally, but is it exported in any way??

no guaranteed way. SOME clients will put a pid property on their windows.
otherw sill not. not every window in x will have it as a lot of windows are
used byt eh wm for borders or by apps for menus and even tonens of invisible
windows and children all over the place.

the pid property will do nothing here. just don't use xkill! if u use it and
things die - you get what u expect. :)

the thnig is. it ISNT A VIRTUAL ROOT. it's like a wm displaying a taskbar
window or anything else. its NOT what the virtual root properties were meant
for. it's not a virtual root by definition of it in the window manager sense.

the pager module isn't in e_modules' package, it's in e's package.

also, better rebuilding all of efl before attempting to build apps,
since there could be problems due to compatibility.

>> desktops module?!?

so desktopname is now part of the pager :)

one note.
on the popup I can see only one window miniature, a sticky gkrellm
which is run at enlightenment's startup, and I see it only in the
first desktop (0,1).
obviously in the pager that minature is shown in every desktop, as
well as all other currently opened windows.

don't know if I'm clear enough. I could eventually grab a snapshot to
let you see what I mean, just let me know.

That would explain it :)

Sound advice. That's what I love about this list. I'll probably do a
full re-build tonight, thanks. I assume it's safest to just re-build
the whole build order from get-e.org? Actually, and this is probably
going to expose my "n00b" underbelly... When I download from CVS to
/usr/src and configure, compile, and install, does it ever use anything
from /usr/src after that point? If not, I'd much rather do my
re-building over SSH from work and just re-start E when I get home.

Also, I noticed a small bug in my pager. I'm not sure if this is fixed
in an updated version (I'll know tonight, I guess), but when I
de/re-activated my pager module yesterday I found that sticky windows
were no longer visible on every desktop in the pager, though they were
still sticky in the WM. De/re-stickifying them updated the pager.

[e-users] Has anyone got eclair to get covers or weather module to work through proxy (even unauthenticated) ?

2005-09-12 Thread Vivek Arya
I have been trying for weeks now. My proxy server uses authentication
so I run a proxy server on my own comp which has the other proxy
server as a parent and I have added my login and pass in squid.conf so
that authentication i no longer req. I have exported
http_proxy=localhost:80 and wget works perfectly but neither eclair
nor the weather module are able to connect.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.

When it tries to update I get the same thing (a ?).  Try

[e-users] E17 menus

2005-09-12 Thread Josenildo Marques

Hello !
I have recently installed E17 and I am really impressed wiht it. It's
fantastic !

Kudos to Hawkwind and others who built the rpm packages for Mandriva
http://seerofsouls.com/

I'd like to customise the menus so they reflect all packages I have
installed and I'd appreciate any pointers.

I also would like to help in the localisation of E17.
TIA

Re: [e-users] Has anyone gotten weather working?

2005-09-12 Thread Paul S.
What I've done is wiped out my whole ~/.e/e/config folder. It works
where it can download data from some Euro town or something, but I live
in Kansas and it doesn't work. I push ctrl+alt+f1 to switch back to the
terminal that I launched e17 in, and it says that it's unable to parse
info from rssweather.com and also sometimes that it spews out
essentially the html code from a http 404 error. I wonder if this
helps.
