I am not a dev so I don't know what it is like for them, but speaking
from a user perspective I still haven't figured out how to use my ati
drivers yet (it's a 9700 mobile), and ATI's website is completely useless.

I think you can get the older revisions yourself.
cvs has checkout / update sub-command options to check out older revisions of files.
try the -r option to specify a specific revision (ok, so you'll need to
look up the revision numbers that you want - cvs log
should help).
I seem to remember there being a way to sepcify revisions using a date / number of days ago as well.

Very great in informative site. It helps me much to understand some
problems. Some time ago I used DirectFB and XDirectFB. I was impressed
by its speed, shadow and real transparent windows. If I compare the
window display times of XDirectFB to plain X is feels extrem fast. But
the problem is that there's no hardware OpenGL for Nvidia and I need
it. :-(

If I change my virtual/multible desktops on "normal" X with E16 I never
understand why windows need so many time to display. For example if I
change to the window where Firefox is I'm able to see first a the
window frame filled with the desktop background for a very small moment
and then the window content is displayed. It's hard to see that my
Nvidia FX 5200 has so much 3D-Power, but is so slow for my desktop. And
if I use one of this huge Gtk+ pixmap themes it's going to be very slow
if I change desktops.

On his site he wrote that XDirectFB, OS X and others use rootless X.
For me it sounds this is better. Why doesn't x.org also use a rootless
X server?

regards
Andreas

check your evas build. did it build with eet font/image support? (configure
will tell you a summary of supported features at the end). it should
auto-detect eet support but it may not have due to eet-config not being in the

[e-users] e17/edje errors ? not finding images ...

2005-09-15 Thread Jean-Yves Bitterlich
Hi there,

being currently at the very bottom of the learning curve of developing
e17/edje applications, I would need your help:

I downloaded and compiled most packages using the get-e.sh script (from
get-e.org) (user=root, prefix=/home/x/local). Compilation went through
and have all bins, libs ...

now my problems: some *_test apps run, other not. for example:
(under x11/gnome/fedoraCore4)

- running: %> ./ecore_evas_test
shows me a neat test application

- running: %> ./entrance -T
shows a black window with a mouse pointer and some scrap images
on the shell, I got plenty of:
EDJE: Error loading image collection "images/207" from file
"/home/x/local/share/entrance/themes/default.edj"
  ...

I therefore tried to see into the edje CVS sources and
(e17/libs/edje/data) played with e_logo.sh with seems to generate a
e_logo.edj. when running %> edje e_logo.edj, I get a demo window (2
boxes and window when clicking on "test") but also plenty of "EDJE:
Error loading ..." message (Error Type: EVAS_LOAD_ERROR_GENERIC).

any idea ?

I asked about this issue recently. You should remove the Window class
from the eap editor thing and use a wildcard in the Window Title, eg *
Calc for oocalc, * Writer for oowriter, etc. This will match on any
application that has a window title that ends in Calc, Writer, etc. One
thing I noticed was that the eap file will still be named after the
window class. Go into your folder of eaps ( ~/.e/e/applications/all )
and rename your new eap to something else ( eg oowriter.eap ) and then
you can create the next one ( eg oocalc ), and then rename that one ...

I run gnome-settings-daemon, and now that you mention it, I have noticed
this behaviour at times. It's intermittent on my systems. Alt-Tab is
working fine for me now anyway.

Just launch nautilus in nautilus.eap with the --no-desktop option!
You then don't need gnome config manager. I like the browser-view as
well. Option: --browser.

OK, I understand Alt-Tab list behavior now.  So, no help at the moment regarding Qt/KDE dialogs behavior?

Boy, I was stupid...  Sorry for wasting your time on this.

Thanks.

i am not sure here. i think i noticed with k3b - thedialog is iconified but
doesn un-iconify - thats why its int he alt-tab list. alt-tab is a list of

well desks takes 2 arguments, not 1. width ANd height in desktops.

[e-users] Qt/KDE applications issue with E17

2005-09-15 Thread Crni Gorac
Am using E17 build from the CVS 2 days ago.  There is strange
behavior with some Qt/KDE applications: after a dialog called (trough
appropriate menu entry activated) and displayed properly for the first
time, each next call of the dialog is displaying it in the background -
so I have to press Alt-Tab and then to select dialog window from the
list (strange that dialog is displayed in Alt-Tab list at all because
it belongs to an application that already has its entry in Alt-Tab
list).  An example for alike behavior is Find dialog in Qt
Assistant.  I suspect that the issue has something to do with
application actually creating dialog only for the first invocation and
then using show/hide functions for next invocations (common practice in
writing Qt applications), but I don't know why would this interact
badly with E.  Any idea?  This happened too with E17 build
from the CVS of about 2 months ago that I used before.

Unrelated, enlightenment_remote seems to be crashing when trying to
change number of desktops: for example, "enlightenment_remote
-desks-set 1" is producing "Segmentation fault".  This was not the
case with my previous E17 build.

Thanks.h

Quite possibly, although to be fair, most if this isn't X's fault -
Nvidia and ATI have been pretty bad about supplying decent drivers for
linux, so most sytems are running without and hardware accelleration.
Here's a good look at it.

http://dri.freedesktop.org/~jonsmirl/graphics.html

X does have support for dropshadows and transparency and such through
it's Composite extention, however without hardware acceleration
dropshadows are a bit slugish and transparency is completely unusable.

unlikely as that wodul need support of xcomposite and xdamage and they are
still very buggy and 2. we'd NEEd to be usig opengl for rendering of 3d and
that woudl basically tie us to advanced 3d hw on closed drivers only.
