kde systray doesn't work in ANY tray app outside kde, because the

[e-users] segfaults.

2005-12-11 Thread roland

Hi all Anyone have any idea about a bug causing segfaults
when an iconified window exits ? I see this a lot and also
saw mention of this in the E todo list. Will this be fixed?
I can reproduce this quite reliably by for example
iconifying an xterm and sending it a kill sig after it goes
into iconbox. Is there a workaround? Sometimes I have a ssh
session open and iconified and if for some reason this
session dies, E segfaults. Havent seen any other big problems
so far. Quite impressed actually with E17 .

Well, one thing is that kde uses a kded module called kdetrayproxy to
make the tray compatible with other WMs. It's
automagically startet together with any kde app

$ dcop kded kded loadedModules
kdetrayproxy

some links i found:
http://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1140 - not really helpful :P
but shows that xfce seems to do it the netwm way

something about that kdetrayproxy stuff:
http://ktown.kde.org/~seli/kdewm/
http://developer.kde.org/documentation/library/cvs-api/kdelibs-apidocs/kdeui/html/classKDETrayProxy.html
the .cpp also includes netwm.h ^^

do you mean entrance?

ecore_config -c /etc/entrance_config.cfg -k /entrance/session/count -g

ecore_config -c /etc/entrance_config.cfg -k
/entrance/session/x/session -s /usr/X11R6/bin/xterm
ecore_config -c /etc/entrance_config.cfg -k /entrance/session/x/title
-s xterm

ecore_config -c /etc/entrance_config.cfg -k /entrance/session/count -i x+1

where x is the value returned by the first command.

Re: [e-users] segfaults.

2005-12-11 Thread James McCarthy
I get this too. Typically you have to kill the program when it's
iconfied and then click on it in ibox. This causes a pretty much
immediate segfault of E17 for me. This happens a lot to me when I'm
debugging a program in Eclipse. If I iconify the application I'm
debugging, then terminate the debugger, then click on the icon in
ibox, E17 faults. Obviously this is a pretty special case but I guess
it's an easy way to replicate this error and debug it.

Start a windowed application using gdb, iconify the window, exit gdb
once you hit a breakpoint, then click on the icon in ibox. E17 should
segfault.
