E16.8 has a built-in composite manager. It is enabled in the composite
settings dialog.
The composite extension must be enabled in your X-server configuration
and your graphics driver must support hardware accelerated render
extension or things will slow down to a crawl.

Its magic or something paranormal has happened! The weather module has
once again appeared in the config. panel & also loads into the "shelf".

All I did was e17 cvs update this date, rebuild all EFL & e in apps.
Also blew away the contents of ~/.e/e/config before restarting e.

Just have to be patient.

correct. i even made the shelf config simpler with some pre-defined recipes
for the things people seem to be asking for (modules on the desktop) so they

look here:

http://www.rasterman.com/files/e17-hinting-bytecode.png

what is blurry about those fonts? they are crystal clear, sharp and defined.
any rounded parts are anti-aliased by look smooth and silky. if your fonts look
like this:

http://www.rasterman.com/files/e17-hinting-none.png

something is wrong with your freetype installation as it simply isn't allowing
the bytecode or autohinter to work (autohinter here:)

you want to use the engage module for that. ibar is a launcher, not a task

none. you get the splash first time u run e - you can turn it off in the splash

first time either way as that's policy on the development side (we like to

you are seeing x's multihead. that's multiple independent screens where the only
thing that can move between them is the mouse. x doesn't allow windows to cross
between screens in multihead. what you want is xinerama. drivers from nvidia
and ati both provide this (twinview and mergedfb for example). and then you can
drag windows in-between. E is not involved int he rendering of windows - this is
done directly between the application and x.

> I am not sure this is a Window manager functionality or an X stuff. I am
> using Xinerama extension and X11R7.1

something is wrong with your xinerama setup then as you are getting pure
multihead. you need to revisit your x setup.

adding hundreds of new features every time someone asks for some little thing -
thus i'm resistant to new ideas/suggestions, as those should be punted off for
e18. but the existing set of features has a lot of holes and gaps to fill- like
this. this kind of logic/behavior gap filling is definitely needed. i
definitely listen to reports of people having problems with usage corner-cases
etc. etc.. we want to make what we have now be polished and very usable, solid

Raster wrote up an explanation... you can create as many shelves
as you want, make them invisible, and only put one module in each. Then
you're free to move them around singly. The only restriction we
*currently* have to put up with is that the modules are required to go
somewhere along the edge of the screen... you can't put the calendar
smack dab in the middle of the desktop, for example. And IIRC, he also
said that may be changing, as the underlying mechanism which drives the
shelf is refined further.

Personally, I don't see this as too much of a hardship... I have
no interest in putting any modules in the "work area" in the center of
my desktop. I don't put my pencilholder in the center of my actual

I was wondering why all the modules erased the old

It would be nice to be able to decide whether one

You'll have to do something like copy /usr/share/e16/config/bindings.cfg

Hey guys, I'm new to the list but really have been enjoying e17 on both my work laptop and my desktop at home, this is really some fantastic stuff.

Personally I really like having 2 independent sets of virtual desktops, on on each monitor.  It's really nice for audio stuff, where you can keep different programs on different desktops and switch between them all with the scroll wheel.  I thought it was odd at first, but now I wouldn't want to part with it...

[e-users] antialiased fonts

2006-06-16 Thread Marc Ravensbergen
Hi. I tried E17 a while back and was very happy with it. The only major showstopper was that I couldn't turn the anti-aliasing _off_. (why anybody would want to make the text look more blurry is beyond me, but each to their own I guess :) Doesn't matter whether it comes from OS X, Windows (clear type), or various linux window managers, it all gets turned off) Gnome and KDE by default ship with it on, but my eyes go nuts after 5 mins so I have to turn it off. Is there any way yet I can do this in E? I am comfortable editing source code if that's what I have to do.
The other thing I was wondering is whether the dock now allows one to click on the icon and bring the currently open application to the foreground (OS X behaviour) instead of launching a second instance.
Thanks for your time.

that would only work for the consecutive startups, not the "FIRST".

[e-users] is the water safe?

2006-06-16 Thread Geoffrey
Was wondering if others have updated E17 and found the 'closing a window
kills E17' problem has gone away?

I was hoping to hit cvs again, but wanted to see if this item had been
addressed.

Thanks.

Either hold alt and hit the right mouse button, or bind a hotkey to
toggle the border.

[e-users] A few questions regarding window configuration with e17

2006-06-16 Thread jean-marie . verdun
Hi,

I have a few quick questions relatives to window.

- How can a user reactivate border to window for which he desactivated it
?

- How can a user save a window configuration while the border is
deactivated ?

- Where are stored the window configuration stuff ? Is this into the .e
directory into the home user directory or anywhere else.

- It seems that the NOSPLASH environment variable is no longer present, is
there a way to avoid the splash screen during the FIRST startup ?

Many thanks for your help !

Re: [e-users] Windows rendering between two virtual desktop

Not that I know of - I think this was a design decision. I know others
that feel the same way - this is, afterall, what e16 users are used
to...

comments anyone?

[e-users] Windows rendering between two virtual desktop

2006-06-16 Thread jean-marie . verdun
Hi,

I am using the current e17 CVS. This is a great work and I am trying to
setup a desktop based on it. I have a question regarding the way e is
rendering the windows when they are fitting between 2 screens. At the
present time, the window is rendered on the screen where it does occupy
the biggest space. ( as exemple take a window and move it at the right
edge of your desktop 0,0, nothing is displayed on desktop 1,0 ). Is there
a way to make it rendered on both screen, like a global virtual display ?

I am not sure this is a Window manager functionality or an X stuff. I am
using Xinerama extension and X11R7.1
