[e-users] UTF-8 locales

2006-11-17 Thread Luca
Hi all!

Just two question:

I installed e17 (cvs sources updated yesterday); window manager is kdm
(started manually with kdm from the command line); when starting
enlightenment it outputs that enlightenment is started directly instead
of (I don't remember exactly).

Second one: when starting Firefox from e17, pointing (example) a russian
linux site: the title of firefox displays various [squares] instead of
characters but the page is displayed with Cyrillic characters well, no
squares or anything else. Is it a problem of mine, exists patch or what?

Thanks in advance,
Luca

Enlightenment dr17 uses a start script to start the environment it is:

 enlightenment_start

I have no clue about your other question

 HTH,
 Justin

Hi Justin and thanks for the reply.

The enlightenment.desktop file in which Exec and TryExec are pointing
directly to /opt/e17/bin/enlightenment worked with a previous cvs
version of e17 I installed.

For the second question I'll wait hoping in some developers reply for
the behavior in question.

Hi.
It seems to me, that default enlightenment font (Vera or smth) is not
utf-8 compatible.

I changed fonts in default theme and recompiled it. Now all cyrillic
characters are ok.

You can also change fonts though Configuration Panel - Fonts as well.

Best regards, ptomaine//

read the dialog - follow the instructions. kdm is your problem :) e ships an
enlightenment.desktop with the correct commands to run.

you need to change e's font config to use sans instead of bitstream vera and it
should work. its just a matter of the default font config not suporting every
possible font character.

 Thanks in advance,
 Luca

its not a matter of utf8 compatibility - just not having russian characters.
changing the font in the theme is a bit of an extreme solution. you could have
just used e17's font config dialog.

Hi Carsten,

Thanks for the various replays; right now I changed the font and using
let's say DejaVu, the behavior is gone.
