[e-users] icons for ibox

2008-07-09 Thread Geoffrey
I've created some new icons for my ibar. When ever I iconize any of
these apps, they show up in my ibox with generic icons. Is it possible
to specify that the icons there are the same as the one in the ibar?

Similar here, although I have 'click window to focus.' Clicking on a

[e-users] multiple shelves on dual head system.

2009-01-24 Thread Geoffrey
I'm running a dual head system facilitated by xrandr.

I want to a separate shelf with different ibar contents. When I first
add the ibar to the second monitor, it contains the same icons as my
first ibar. If I attempt to add an icon to this new ibar, it shows up
on the other ibar. After logging out and logging back in, I only have
one shelf visible. I can go into configuration and rearrange my shelfs
to where I want them, but then the ibars have identical contents.

Is what I'm trying to do possible?

I've just updated to the latest code via easy_e17.sh

[e-users] icons on desktop

2009-03-31 Thread Geoffrey
I have recently re-installed E17 on my box. There are various icons
that show up on the desktop referencing various devices, (external
drives, scanner, tv card). Prior to this install of E17, I could move
these icons around. If I attempt to drag them around, they simply
return to their original position. Further, two of them are on top of
each other and therefore I can't get to the one underneath.

Is this a bug, or some configuration detail I'm missing?

I've tried blowing away my existing e17 and rebuilding, but I get the

I've googled around a bit and found a reference to COMMAND_WPA in

I have already done this. Someone else suggested installing the Systems
module, which I did, but now I get an empty systems menu. If I click on
the System menu item, I get a partial popup window about 1 cm wide. All
I can make out on the window is a partial cancel button. If I click on
the window, it goes away.

[e-users] easy_e17.sh looking for lua

2009-12-16 Thread Geoffrey
I'm getting the following when attempting to install E17 via easy_e17.sh:

checking for LUA... no
checking for LUA... no
checking for LUA... no
checking for LUA... no
configure: error: unable to find Lua

Although I believe I've got it installed:

'rpm -qa |grep lua' produces:

lua-lposix-1.0-3mdv2009.0
lua5.0-5.0.3-8mdv2009.0
liblua5.1-5.1.4-2mdv2009.0
lua-lposix-devel-1.0-3mdv2009.0
lua-5.1.4-2mdv2009.0

Anyone know what I'm missing here?

[e-users] shelves on the wrong screen

2009-12-16 Thread Geoffrey
Just updated to 16.999.063

I'm running dual head set up and have my screens configured as follows:

xrandr --output DVI-0 --left-of VGA-0

Prior to updating E17, I had two shelves, one bottom center of left
monitor, the other top center of the right monitor.

When I restarted E, both shelves were on the right screen. I don't see
anyway to move that shelf back to the left screen.

I did try starting up without my xrandr command, then run xrandr and
both shelves are on the left screen. I deleted the shelf that was on
the top and tried to add it to the right screen. When I do, the other
shelf pops over to the right screen as well.

Solutions?

As others mentioned, I was missing the liblau-devel package. Installed
it and E17 compiled and installed. Thanks for the hints folks.

Great segway!!

I have been logging out and logging back in to try to resolve the fact
that my reboot/shutdown/screen lock options are not on my menus. :(
I've added the following:

users: esoteric allow: *

to my /opt/e17/etc/enlightenment/sysactions.conf

But that does not seem to have resolved these issues.

[e-users] mouse double clicks

2009-12-22 Thread Geoffrey
Seems that ever since my last update of e17 (16.999.063), my mouse
doubleclicks a lot when I do not intend to do so. I'm constantly
deleting two messages in email, rather then one.

I've looked for a mouse setting for this, but don't see it. Any
pointers would be greatly appreciated.

As long as I'm begging for assistance, I've also a problem (probably
unrelated to e17, but I'm begging), with my middle mouse button not
working. This all happened when I replaced my existing mouse/keyboard
combo. Buttons 1 and 3 will emulate button 2, but I want my button 2
back. I've looked at my x config, but don't see anything that's causing
this issue.

Thanks for any assistance.

I would think it would be an X thing as well, it's just that it started

[e-users] autoconf error

2010-02-04 Thread Geoffrey
configure.ac:17: error: possibly undefined macro: AC_LIBTOOL_WIN32_DLL
If this token and others are legitimate, please use m4_pattern_allow.
   See the Autoconf documentation.
configure.ac:20: error: possibly undefined macro: AC_PROG_LIBTOOL

Not sure I understand why it's referencing a win32_dll macro.

Suggestions?

I know you can configure E to use a different screen locking app, for
example I use xscreensaver. I don't know if you could put together a
shell that includes your screen locking mechanism and your command to
execute and put it there. Likely, that only gets you half way though as
the unlocking, you'd likely have to write your own wrapper for the
locking mechanism. Sorry, thinking out loud a bit. It's worth a try?

Settings->settings panel->screen->screen lock->advanced

At the bottom of the window you'll see 'use custom screenlock'

Check the box and put your command in the text box.

Agreed, who reviews such patches? Just post to the list? I generally
test my code on myself before releasing it. :) I was trying to go to
www.enlightenment.org to see if there were any coding standards, but
couldn't get to it last night, or this morning. Is there elsewhere I
might find such documentation?

I've been using E16 for a while, but I'm just now playing with E17.

You have a Merry Christmas as well. Everyone on the lists have a great
Christmas and/or other holiday you might observe. Enjoy, be safe.

Rule of thumb:

For each bottle of wine, you must sleep 8 hours to recoup, thus you
would need to sleep 24 hours (continuous) to NOT hurt when you wake. :)

Curious as to what is an expected amount of cpu/memory usage for E17.
Right now E is at 13.9% cpu, which is higher then any other wm I've
used, but usable. Is this a reasonable expectation?

Is there anyway to determine which cvs version has this problem? I've

Ah, you nailed it on the head. I ran top in batch mode and it was
running from about 13-19%. Then I killed xdaliclock. :) Now it's
running at less than 1.5% :) Usually around 1-1.3%

With or without it (xdaliclock), I don't see much impact though.

Yeah, but it's reall pretty! It does a very good job of it. It's very

It's sweet. I would have suspected that I would have seen some
degradation because of the xdaliclock app, but if you think about, it's
still got 80% of the cpu to play with. :)

[e-users] cvs access?

2006-01-22 Thread Geoffrey

Be kind, very inexperienced with cvs...

I've not been able to get to cvs of late, with the following:

cvs -d:pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvsroot/enlightenment login

returns the following:

Logging in to
:pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:2401/cvsroot/enlightenment

CVS password:

cvs [login aborted]: end of file from server (consult above messages if any

Suggestions?

Sourceforge cvs isn't that great. Try again, or wait until non-peak

That's not a very responsible solution. In my books, that amounts to
abuse of their service, at the very least. Keep in mind that you're not
paying a cent to use their servers.

My approach is a bit more forgiving, I think:

i=2;
while (! cvs); do
sleep $i
((i=i*i)
done

exponential sleep

Now I don't have too much knowledge of cvs and what sort of difference
this approach would actually have on their systems, but at any rate,
your logic is broken. Use the thinktux mirror. And if *that* one is
overloaded, give it a couple of hours to clear up and then try again.
There are more important things than users downloading the latest cvs
and recompiling ... take developers doing a cvs update, for example.

The crash happened again yesterday and i have attached the output from top
during that crash. No major RAM eating going on, but the enlightenment process
was using between 61-65% cpu. And as per previous crashes, I could not kill -9
enlightenment, but was able to switch to a terminal, shut down the computer,
etc, whilst there was continuous flickering disk activity. I think it was
frozen bubble (!) that I was using when it crashed this time, but konqueror
was open.

How old is the version of frozen-bubble? I can recall specific
instances where it would lock up and really eat up cpu. I don't see
that anymore on later versions. I've even tried to reproduce it.

One other thing you might consider. It could be remotely possible that
our kill attempt hasn't had time to get to the process you're trying to
kill. I've seen attempts at trying to kill a process take a good while
when cpu usage is high.

If you can reproduce the problem, try killing frozen-bubble first. As
long as you're not running out of memory, just wait a while and see if
it eventually goes away.

I know that when I was having the problem with frozen-bubble, it was
very specific. This happened only in chain_reaction mode as follows:

1. A marble that I had just brought down was returning up (because of
the chain_reaction mode) and it was going to finish the marbles left.
2. I attempted to fire another marble whilst the aforementioned marble
was returning up.

Unless you've used the chain_reaction mode, you may not understand what
I've just said. Check it out though, it makes for a faster game. :)

Forgive me if this is a silly suggestion, but how about having a daily
cvs snapshot tarball thing shared via p2p? This is for re-compilers only
- of course developers still need a cvs server.

My thinking as well (see my previous post on bittorrent/cvs) I'd give
up my cvs access in order to reduce the load on the cvs server for the
sake of the developers.

Hmm, I know how that is. I don't necessarily build e that often, but
when I do, I do want the latest goodies. Still, for the sake of the
current situation, I could live with a weekly build. I would simply set
up a cron to get it the evening after the build.

While I don't want to discourage donations, we could definitely use those,
we do have some list members with considerable resources. If someone has
access to systems that would meet the needs raster outlined in his email,

Right now we're discussing a server, and if that plan goes forward, we will

list of the app names and their purpose.

So far, I think that "Entrance" is very cool name for a xdm

start Apps/keep running Apps on). Needs a bit of thinking, at least
for me, but since I'm not a native english speaker it might be a
difference anyway.
Evidence is nice for a file manager, I think. As I heard the name for
the first time I didn't know what it's purpose was, but since I got to

eRSS doesn't need any further explanation. ;-)

I think there was at least an attempt to choose names that make sense,
although, in some cases it's the afterthought that makes you realize why
that was the name given. (find out Entrance is an xdm replacement and
the light goes on...)

I'm glad that it's not been the KDE approach, that is, throw a K in

For the rest of the Apps I have the list mentioned above. I currently
know Eclair and Entice, too, because I use them regularly.

I just new Entice was going to be some pr0n application. And Eclair a

I would agree, but I also would prefer the current developers continue
to focus on the code. I'd love to give a shot at creating some icons,
but I'm afraid that might be something a developer might want to keep
'as there own.' You know, kinda like a logo or something.

Note that this is new for 0.16.8. It does not work with 0.16.7 (which I

I hope the dell examples are just examples. I've heard all kinds of
folks (particularily on the postgresql lists) who have had nothing but
trouble out of Dell servers. I like Monarch Computer and you can pick
and choose your hardware. Further, they do Linux. :) Also, I can drive
to their location, thus if we need to do some price discussion, I'd be
willing to do it in person. Maybe we should hit them up for some FREE
hardware? I've picked a couple of comparable systems:

Dual Opteron 250s 2.4Ghz (64/32bit), 2x400 SATA 7200 drives, 2gig ddr
(400) 3200 ECC ram, 16x DL DVD+/-, Fedora Core 4.

This is the stock setup, you can tweak it on this link (swap the DVD for
a cdrom...):

Yahoo says $1000Aus == $760US  You're gonna have to through another $600

Just for the hell of it, I called Monarch Computer her in Georgia and
talked to them about the possibility of either donating hardware or
reducing the cost for the sake of an open source project.

That being said, I was told that I should send an email to the marketing
department.

It makes sense to me, but I'm not someone who would such a decision,
although I'm sure the Enlightenment developers and users wouldn't turn
down a deal if it was offered.

So, the question is, should I go for it, should someone else do this?
What can we offer in return? Links off the E website?

Let me know folks?

Probably time to start the "What OS should it run?" flame war now. B-)

Even though I don't use it on the desktop, Debian Stable always gets
recommended by me for network servers that need to be rock solid and
have ample bandwidth. For two reasons. Debian Stable is very stable
due to the very conservative nature of the Debian process of producing
what they call "Stable". It's old versions of software that have been
around for long enough to prove that they are problem free, but with
the latest security patches. The second reason is that you can't go
past the Debian update procedure if you have bandwidth to spare.

In this case there is a third reason, raster uses Debian. B-)

And Debian stable is also very old because of the approach Debian takes
to updates. I'm very likely fighting a loosing battle here, but I'd go
for a rock solid slackware install

Not that I expect anything to change, but...

I know it was just released, but Debian's approach to it's releases has
their latest release containing software that is always older versions
then what other distros release within the same timeframe.

Personally, I don't have to admin the box, I don't really care what it

That's kinda dumb. You're wanting to run a bulky buggy WM on top of a

If you state what you wish to get done, maybe we could help with that

I agree with all except the very first assessment. It's not dumb, just
ignorant. Ignorance can be overcome through education.

Jan, do outline what you want to accomplish and there are many
'enlightened' folks on the list who will assist.

indeed.. someone might want to look into fixing that.. :P

I would suspect it's simply an issue that the calendar is not large
enough to properly display the numbers. Would you prefer the numbers be
displayed overlapping? I guess that would be a better indication of the
problem.
