Re: [e-users] Possible for EFM to use Desktop File Utils Defaults?

2012-07-10 Thread Jeff Hoogland
Just wanted to let you know I finally got a fresh build online and it seems
to be working great! Once we can get a standardish sidebar added to EFM it
should be everything users expect from your average file manager.

[e-users] Possible for EFM to use Desktop File Utils Defaults?

2012-07-05 Thread Jeff Hoogland
Hey All,

Loaded up the EFM for the first time in awhile and I must say it is getting
some awesome features! One thing I am wondering though - is it possible for
it to use a similar method of file defaults like PCManFM and other file
browsers use? For instance on debian based distributions installing the
package desktop-file-utils allows the file manager to know what to do
with a variety of different file types by default (instead of having to
define it for each file type manually).

Finally - manually setting .odt files to open with LibreOffice doesn't seem
to work: http://www.enlightenment.org/ss/e-4ff5a7047d7ce1.99808303.jpg

As you can see the custom command slot is blank. However right clicking on
a .odt file and selecting *Open With-LibreOffice Writer* works perfectly
fine.

Cheers,

Perfect timing!

I just added this as a command line utility: enlightenment_open, could
you try it?

If it works for you then I'll add similar usage of defaults in efm as well.

2012-07-05 Thread Jeff Hoogland
My build from yesterday is missing this - I'll do a current SVN pull and
give it a try. Will take me a day or so to get fresh packages online. Will
report back as soon as I can given it a try.

Anything specific I should know about the enlightenment_open command? Do I
just do enlightenment_open file name?

it's something like xdg-open, then yes.

I've also used some idea from xfce (exo-open) that supports starting
the default application for some stuff like browser, mail, terminal,
image, video and audio. It's like forcing a mime-type, except it also
understands $BROWSER and for terminal it will search for
GenericName=Terminal or Category=TerminalEmulator
