 Hello,

I've a problems with E17 and some applications.

 Precondition:
 - only one bottom shelf
 - windows couldn't overlap the shelf
 - Policy: Smart placement

 Action:
 - e.g. start Firefox

 Result:
The main window opens a little to big. The bottom of the window frame
is below the shelf. Then I lower the window size to around the half of
the screen. (I've to use the ALT modifier, because E17 default theme
could only resize at the bottom.) Then I maximize the window. As
result the window is again bigger and stays below the shelf. SO I
repeat the resizing and maximize it again. And now the window has the
 correct size.

This is 100% possible to reproduce. It's really bugging. Any ideas why
 this happens?

Is nobody with internal knowledge of the code able to reproduce this
problem?

Should I file a bug to trac (or bugzilla?)?

It seems if nobody is able to reproduce it I've to fix it on my own.
Probably I need more time as a experienced E17 developer. Could someone
please help me and tell which function I should set the breakpoint, in a
debugger session, to get the information about new calculated size of
the window after clicking on 'maximize'. I assume the size is somehow
wrong calculated.

regards
Andreas

i just did exactly this... and it doesn't happen :( (firefox as
   well)

Maybe you've another shelf of window placement policy? If nothing
else helps I could provide you my packed $HOME/.e directory.

shelf is above everything, windows not allowed to overlay, shink to
content size, no auto-hide and show on all desktops.

Sounds like my settings. Here is my config directory:

http://tux-style.de/tmp/e_config.tar.gz

Maybe that helps to analyse the problem.

Have you tried with the default theme. (I had an issue today with
Remember not working which cleared up on switching to the default
theme)
Do these issues happen if you try a different window manager?
Which distributions are people using?

I'm running Sidux (Debian derivatve) 2.6.25-9.slh.1-sidux-amd64 #1 SMP
PREEMPT x86_64 GNU/Linux and E17 compiled via easy_e17.sh
v1.2.0-PREVIEW from svn 16 Sep 2008. The applications mentioned work
as expected.

i'm using e17 package for ubuntu hardy:

0.16.999.043+cvs20080708-0hardy1

and i'm using the default theme. in addition to this too high window
problem, i also have problems with remembering of window
positions/desktops.

No, but I can confirm this happens with kde applications as well, and
it is, indeed, very annoying.
