[Evolution-hackers] libical merge commit - for your information, cvs log incorrect

2001-11-13 Thread Benjamin Lee

One small caveat. The 'long' cvs log I made is incorrect regarding
these files:

* design-data/param-c-types.txt:
* design-data/prop-to-value.txt:
* design-data/property-tokens.txt:
* design-data/value-c-types.txt:
* design-data/value-mem-semantics.txt:
Add new files, from GNOME/Evolution version

They were _not_ added, as I noticed that they had already been
Attic-ed on sourceforge.

[Evolution-hackers] Customizing *Attribution* String

2001-11-13 Thread Jim Meyer

Hello!

I inquired on the Evolution users list about customizing the attribution
string which heads each quoted message and was told that it's on the
feature add list.

I've figured out where in mail-callbacks.c the change should be
effected; it's small enough that I feel fairly competent in implementing
it (famous last words). However, there's an implied set of tokens to the
format string which I'd like to discuss a bit if anyone here is
interested or has opinions.

The current format string passed by EMsgComposer() is the result of
strftime applied to On %a, %Y-%m-%d at %H:%M, %%s wrote:, passed
through e_utf8_from_locale_string() and is fed to
mail_tool_quote_message() with either the name or email address of the
person who authored the message being quoted.

I think the most flexible approach might be to allow any single-% token
handled by strftime and to use double-% tokens to represent bits which
are expected to be meaningful in the context of the mail being quoted. A
brief example or three:

On %a, %Y-%m-%d at %H:%M, %%name wrote:
As %%name (%%address) can tell you:
As the bell tolled %H:%M on the %d day of %m in the year %Y,\n
a bolt of inspiration caused %%name to speak these words:

The obvious tokens would be %%name and %%address; %%datetime would also
be useful and could resolve to %a %b %d %H:%M:%S %Z %Y or some other
standard date representation. It might be interesting to provide some
finer divisions of %%name and %%address such as %%username, %%domain,
%%firstname, and %%lastname. Any others?

Meanwhile, there are two other issues: where the preference is set in
the GUI and where it's stored between sessions. I'd love some guidance
on these as I've not ever worked with a Gnome application before this.

Cheers!

if you are using RC, the easy route is to remove evolution, unsubscribe

Otherwise, ftp.ximian.com/pub/ximian-gnome/your_distro/ should have evo

Any chance or possible to way to also get an 24-hour time display with

I hope there's surely a LC_ALL, LC_* env variable existent which allows

 Anyone did already?

You should always be able to use 24-hour time display in all locales.
It is the 12-hour format that is only available in some locales.

Hm, I use the C locale and do get the AM/PM formats -- I meant if it would be possible to change the time formatting routines via an environment variable or the locale settings themselves to get a 24 hour time display even for the C locale.

(Though there may also be bugs in the translations that affect time
formats.)

AFAIK the C locale shouldn't be/isn't a translation at all.

Nonsense. A fixed quotation string is only needed if one is too lazy to
implement the solution correctly. Take a look at Balsa, for example.
Balsa lets you specify whatever you'd like as a quotation string, and
also lets you specify a regular expression to match against to determine
whether a line is quoted or not.

Besides, simply refusing to allow people to select their own quote
string in Evolution doesn't change the quote strings that Evolution has
to deal with (since *lots* of folks already use mailers other than
Evolution which allow them to select their own quote string).

Nope. We'll be happy to take one, though.

Is there a patch waiting for post-1.0? It's just an X-header, iirc.

[Evolution] snaps status update

2001-11-13 Thread Luis Villa

So... snaps no longer die at startup. However, they appear to hang when
using sendmail/postfix and/or when calling the gnome url handler. These
appear to be build machine issues, not code issues. Either way, we're
working on them, since obviously these are intolerable issues for 1.0.

You should always be able to use 24-hour time display in all locales.
It is the 12-hour format that is only available in some locales.

Hm, I use the C locale and do get the AM/PM formats -- I meant if it
would be possible to change the time formatting routines via an
environment variable or the locale settings themselves to get a 24 hour
time display even for the C locale.

In the calendar you can change the format in the Tools/Calendar Settings
dialog.

I'm not sure if you can change the format in the mailer.

Re: [Evolution] Outlook express dbx files

2001-11-13 Thread John Sturgeon

I think the general idea here is to use an IMAP server as an
intermediate server.

If you have access to an IMAP server, then, from Outlook Express, you
can copy all of your folders/messages to the IMAP server (and retain
your folder hierarchy), then access them from Evolution.

How do I import those? Or, how do I make a mbx file from outlook express?

I think there is a FAQ about this, but Evo does not do this by
default...Netscape 4.x or maybe 6.2 for windoze will do it and then you
can save them to other formats...

[Evolution] Broken Addressbook

2001-11-13 Thread Meph Istopheles

  Hey,

Because of addressbook.db (or is that addresses.db?) corruption, I'd
deleted the file can't figure out how to get evolution to save
imported or newly generated addresses.

Any way to recreate a working addressbook.db.

Re: [Evolution] Changing Quotation String?

No, it's not possible. I suppose we could add the feature but I
personally am not sure I like the idea. If people change the prefix,
then it becomes impossible (not hard, but impossible) to colourize
and/or do anything cool with quoted text in general.

Now come on. There are many things that would be nice to have in
Evolution 1.0. As someone who has worked with teams developing software
(released software), there will always be compromises in 1.0 .

You get 1.0 out the door so people fall in love with it, and enhance it
in future versions. Calling people lazy because they didn't implement
your pet feature is poor, in my opinion.

Put it on the list for 1.1, 1.2 or 1.3, and let's focus on problems that
need to be fixed for 1.0 (actual bugs, I mean).

[Evolution] UTF-8 in pilot-link???

2001-11-13 Thread Dan Hensley

For the past few days I haven't been able to compile Evolution with
conduit support because of this:

checking if pilot-link handles UTF-8 conversions... no
configure: error: evolution requires pilot-link to have working UTF-8
conversion routines

My question is, how do I get pilot-link to support UTF-8 conversions? I
did a little digging and made a guess that I needed to install libiconv
1.7 (which I did by compiling), and then recompile pilot-link 0.9.5 with
libiconv. However, when I do that I get the following error:

gcc -I./include -I./include -g -O2 -Wall -DLIBDIR=\/usr/local/lib\
-DTCL -DTK -I/usr/include -I/usr/include/tcl addresses.o -Wl,--rpath
-Wl,/usr/local/lib libsock/.libs/libpisock.so getopt.o getopt1.o -o
.libs/addresses -lm
libsock/.libs/libpisock.so: undefined reference to `libiconv_open'
libsock/.libs/libpisock.so: undefined reference to `libiconv_close'
libsock/.libs/libpisock.so: undefined reference to `libiconv'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [addresses] Error 1

So what am I missing?

Dan
