[Evolution] Spell checker is blind...

2001-12-06 Thread Andre Truter

Hi All,

I have the spell checker working fine on my Evolution on my Home box.

Now I want the spell checker to work on my notebook too, but it seems to
be blind.
I can type the most awfull spelling mistakes and then run a spell
check. The spell checker reports that everthing is fine.

I can even write a mail in Afrikaans and the spell checker is quite
happy with my spelling. If I did this on my home machine, about the
whole mail is underlined in red.

I have teh following installed on my notebook:
gnome-spell-0.4-ximian.1
aspell-0.33.7.1-ximian.2
pspell-0.12.2-3

What am I missing here?

That probably is best. So far it makes no difference because
gal-evolution-1-0-branch is identical to the trunk (Except for the macro

right-click on the message column headers (where it says from etc etc)
click on add a column.
from the popup window drag the received column on to the display where
you want it.

click it to sort the messages.

If you right click on the recieved bar, you'll see an option to add a
new column; one of the options there would be 'recieved at.' Drag that
to the bar and you're golden.

If you right click on the column headings, a popup menu appears. You can

It looks like the wombat server has crashed/not started.

Run killev, then run 'wombat' in a terminal, and see what happens.
If it runs OK, run evolution from another terminal.

Re: [Evolution] getting netscape to launch an evolution composewindow

2001-12-06 Thread Chris Tooley

That doesn't really work in Netscape or Mozilla directly as they have a
built in mail client and expect you to use it. However, there is a
ProtoZilla project that lets you edit things like that fairly nicely.

See the archives from November or possibly even October on this list as
there was a discussion about it. It's definitely not for the faint of
heart but it's been working fine for me.

Anywhere you can set the Mailto: handler, you can make Evolution work as
the URL handler. i.e. it works in galeon if you set the handler in the
control center.

If Netscape permits you to set that, it will be somewhere in the NEtscape
preferences dialogs. You'd set the handler to be:

evolution '%s'

I had to reconfigure my three email acocunts, but evo is now running and
fetching mail without crashing. I closed the program, did a killev to be

Alternatively, for gal at least, the branch (gal-evolution-1-0-branch)

You'll get a working dir.

For the record, I evaluated OpenMail at our company as a replacement for
Exchange. I did have to install an OpenMail component on each Outlook
workstation for full functionality. IIRC, once the plugin was installed
a new source was available when configuring mail accounts.

Evolution on the other hand is working great with Exchange (Mail anyway)
without a plugin : ) I will be purchasing the connector when it's
available though, since I don't think our IT department will be dropping
Exchange anytime soon : /

That's odd, because the scenario we were presented with while talking to
the salespeople (ok, they were salespeople, not tech people), was setting
up an Openmail server in the domain, letting it replicate from the
Exchange servers, then making DNS/WINS changes to point the old Exchange

do transparently if we have to push out an Outlook client to every user in

Not to say either of us is wrong, just my understanding when we were

I'll buy 2 once Slackware makes it to the supported distributions ;)

Re: [Evolution] Problem sending mail

2001-12-06 Thread Not Zed

If 'telnet smtpserver 25' fails when you run it from the linux box,
then it sounds like the intenet sharing, or whatever it is, isnt'
sharing everything.

Try also runnign evolution-mail with CAMEL_VERBOSE_DEBUG=1 set in your
environment, and sending us the debug output.

Because for the last few weeks there has been a code freeze for the
release? No point in building snapshots which are identical.

I've been told they will be turning on again soonish.

I think the faq on the ximian devzone has info on how to get a
backtrace. I dont know the url of hand.

Does it hang forever, or just take a really long time?

I had the same problem - I couldn't install Evolution from the Evolution
snapshot channel on red carpet. Turns out that you should install
Evolution 1.0 from the Ximian GNOME Desktop channel instead (I'm using
Evolution to write this message).

BTW, anyone know why it seems that Evo snapshots aren't being created
any more?

[Evolution] (no subject)

2001-12-06 Thread Michael Hanline

Hello,

This has been bugging me a fair bit.

I downloaded Ximian desktop the other day and find it pretty good.
When using red carpet, I try to get Ximian evolution, and it tells me
I have a failed dependency - libpisock.so.3.

So, what I usually do is I goto rpmfind.net and get my required
package.
But this package is already installed.

I then decided to have a look around in the /usr/lib directory and
found
I do have the lib there: libpisock.so.3 (which is a symlink to
libpisock.so.3.0.1). Why is rpm saying I don't have libpisock.so.3
when
it's in my libs, and the package that it is included with is already
installed too?

Is this a problem with Evolution, or a prob with my system?

If anyone would be so kind as to explain how and why this problem
occured. There isn't a lot of literature on the web related to
resolving
dependencies like this.

I could force --nodeps, but I'd rather keep the db in order.

Regards,

Michael

P.S. i know of others who have had the same problem as me. we're both
using Redhat 7.1.

[Evolution] One possible fix for evolution-mail not working

2001-12-06 Thread Dave Allen

I've seen posts over the last several weeks complaining that for
various reasons, evolution-mail has not been working, usually
resulting in a "Configuration Database not found" error. For me,
Evolution would start, but clicking on the Inbox icon in the shortcut
bar didn't do anything.

Some people have said that it works as root, but not as a regular
user. I also saw this.

What happened to me was that the evolution RPM file (for RedHat 7.2
anyway - not sure about other distros) isn't explicitly setting
permissions on /usr/lib/evolution/camel-providers/1.0, so this
directory was being created as drwx-- on my system. Changing the
permissions on this directory to drwxr-xr-x (and the usual killev ;
oaf-slay bit) fixed it for me.

Hope this helps somebody out there.
