The snapshots now match the beta packages, which means the conduits are

Not in the gui, but the format that provides the output (in
e-time-utils.c) translates the format, so that translators can customize

It actually acts as a server. The gui uses it as do things like the

Well it could, but you would be doing CORBA over the wire. The more
likely solution would be to write another pcs backend that contacts the
remote machine.

Well, I doubt there is any difference between 1.0.2 and 1.0.3. What
this message simply means is that no where in the list of attendees
(contained in the appointment) could it find on of your email
addresses. This has been change for 1.0.4 so that even if this is the
case, you can still put the appointment in your calendar.

Well you could move the text in the icalendar files on disk. I was
thinking about adding a "don't sync anything after " option for
1.2 as well. To "fix" the sync mapping, you really just need to to a
copy to or copy from and then go back to syncing.

Yes, you can write a simple client that talks to the various pieces via
the bonobo component system.

Well, evolution uses icalendar which outlook can be told to send. Also
some work is being done on converting the tnef type attachments which
iirc, is what outlook by default sends its calendar information in.

There really is no automated way to do this from evolution. The task
list is in iCalendar format in ~/evolution/local/Tasks/tasks.ics if
that's helpful.

You're right, by default it should probably not be checked. The odd bit
is that i did this because the decision on the icalendar list was that
rsvp's were always allowed (but the recommendation is given).

For 1.2 there is already an expunge feature added, but the tasks will be
kept indefinetely in the current and future versions if you don't
explicitly have them removed. There is a setting to hide them after a

Currently Public Calendar url is for informational purposes and should
point to an iCalendar calendar file. The free/busy url can point to a
source of iCalendar free/busy information and will be displayed when
using the schedule page.

In future Public Calendar url will be used to for calendar overlay.

You can't directly because we cannot yet access the PST file format. If
you can get them into vcalendar or icalendar format from outlook, we can
import those. You could also use a palm pilot to move them via syncing.

I did some checking. I think what's going on is that our packages are
slightly borked. You probably needed to install the evolution-pilot
package (ximian matched the mandrake conventions). Our evolution
package contains the conduit registration files, but not the actual
conduits.

I'll let the build guys know.

Spring. I'm not search what you mean by "searchable archives".
Evolution doesn't archive mail but its easy enough to archive in a
folder with a filter (which means its searchable). Any particular
reason you'd want to archive mail?

It looks like mandrake is not packaging the conduits, atleast not in the

The visor prism should work fine with those versions. If it works with
jpilot then something is a little odd since they both use pilot-link as
the communications library. Are you positive multiple pilot accessing
programs were not running?

When you press the hot sync button, what does /proc/bus/usb/devices
contain?

A pointer to an iCalendar free/busy information file

Well the file ~/evolution/local/Calendar/calendar.ics is already in
iCalendar format. But it does not contain the free/busy information,
which is a synopsis of the information in said file.

The goal is to have better publishing of free/busy information (ie, to a
web server like) in future releases.

Free busy information doesn't work quite that way, its an overview of

Running gpilotd on the command line will produce debugging output. What
exactly is the problem.

Attach to the binary for the component or before evo is running, run the

Soon I hope, its on my to do list along with support for the m5xx series

It has been fixed for awhile, note the problem was with pilot-link and
our packages our patched and the fix is in pilot-link cvs. The patch is

[Evolution] Warning: Address Conduit Bug

2001-12-13 Thread JP Rosevear

Just a heads up, there is an address conduit bug that causes the loss of
the data in the "Custom" fields on the pilot. This will occur during a
"slow" sync or when the desktop record matching the pilot record
changes. A patch has been written and the fix should be available in
tomorrow's snapshots.

Thanks to Jason Kasper for pointing this out.

You are correct. This wasn't a problem but became broken during the fix
for something else. Bug 17230. I have a patch for this ready.

This was a known missing feature. It has already been added for the

Correct, the privates flags don't seem to be getting to the conduits,
bug 17231. Investigating.

Hmm, this is actually not a syncing problem but a general problem with
the calendar/addressbook backend not notifying the gui of the changes.

Unfortunately this is currently an arbitrary default in the code.
Hopefully in the 1.0.x series I will make this a gui option in the

Most likely you need to downgrade to the latest stable control center
(1.4.x) rather the using the beta (1.5.x) which has a bug.

Not that I know of, but its been brought up several times before. The
last time I looked at this it specified only a transport mechanism and
not a data interchange format (ie, it told you how to sync the data but
not what the payload, for say an calendar object, would be). I've heard
this has changed, so if you have any pointers to things beyond the
SyncML 1.0 spec let me know.

[Evolution] Pilot and Control Center Woes

2001-11-26 Thread JP Rosevear

Apologies to every one having the both-pilot-capplets-are-the-same
problem.

The situation is that the new control center has a bug that causes
problems for the capplets using the old control center. The most recent
gnome-pilot should work with the old control-center (1.4.x) just fine
but will no longer work with the new control center. The new control
center hackers are working on a fix to solve the problems so that things
will work for both.

Ah, ok. So it wasn't truly a bug with the syncing - basically when you
sync with more than one computer it causes "slow" syncs to occur which
do record by record compare and store copies of stuff has changed, as
prescribed by the palm synching rules. This can cause a bunch of
duplicates.

I'll investigate this Intellisynch software a bit more for future ideas.

Ok, the problem is that the daemon that waits for pilot connections is
not running (except when you change your settings). The PilotSync
applet will do this for you. Right click on the panel and select
Applets->Utility->PilotSync. The applet will keep the daemon up all the
