[Evolution] archiving old mail?

2002-01-31 Thread John Klassa

I'd like to archive old mail, automatically. When I used MH, it was
simple enough to write a script to use the relevant MH commands to find
mail older than a month and move it into an archive subfolder.

With Evolution, it ought to be reasonably straightforward, given that
the mail is stored in an mbox-style file. My only fear is that if I
move mail out of a file (while Evolution is shut down, of course :-)),
I'll confuse its indexing mechanism.

So, my questions:

1. Anybody done this already and care to share?

2. Need I fear the indexing, or will Evolution notice the difference in
the mtimes and reindex on its own?

3. Is there some nifty, hidden API that'll help me do this, so that I
don't have to munge the files directly?

Thanks!

John

Re: [Evolution] temporarily frozen controls

2002-01-06 Thread John Klassa

I'm running fvwm2... And again, the odd thing is that it's been working
fine for weeks. It just recently started acting this way. Same wm,
same everythin g -- except perhaps for some ancillary stuff (i.e. I
install RPM's pretty regularly, for various reasons; I don't think I
touched any of the gtkhtml, bonobo, etc. packages, though).

Confused,
John

[Evolution] temporarily frozen controls

2002-01-05 Thread John Klassa

I don't know what I did, but I'm having a really odd/annoying problem
with Evolution 1.0...

For weeks, it worked fine. Now, I seem to run into frozen controls
fairly frequently (every other folder/message switch or so). That is,
I'll jump to a new folder, and suddenly, nothing works except for the
message selection pane. Scrollbars, menu, all frozen. If I change the
currently-selected message, then change back to the original message,
the controls are freed up and start to work again. Sometimes, it
happens with the folder selection pane -- everything's frozen until I
pick a new folder, then switch back.

This is driving me batty. :-)

I'm wondering if I may have installed an RPM recently that hosed me...
Any ideas on what may be causing thing? Any ideas on what pieces/parts
control this kind of behavior, for which I might try a reinstall? :-)

Thanks,
John

[Evolution] ugly fonts from Outlook users

2001-12-14 Thread John Klassa

When I get mail from Outlook users, it often contains *something* that
makes for really ugly rendering. The attached image shows what I mean.
The first box is really an apostrophe; the thing that looks like a
capital J (or which may actually be a capital J :-)) is a smiley.
The filth that generated this is:

Anyway, any thoughts on what I can do to make this look nice? This kind
of stuff always comes through in a tiny font (per the attached; my
default font is much larger), and with missing characters. I do have
the wingdings font available (I believe it's referred to in the junk I
quoted), if you're wondering.

Thanks,
John

[Evolution] can't print (mail crashes)

2001-12-13 Thread John Klassa

I can't seem to print... Whether I try to print to a printer, or print
to a file, the mail component crashes (I get the gnome application
crashed dialog). Could I be missing a piece (i.e. what RPM's are
required for printing to work)? :-)

Thanks,
John

Re: [Evolution] can't print (mail crashes)

2001-12-13 Thread John Klassa

Ah, I tracked it down... I was running:

libgnomeprint15-0.29-2mdk

When I upgraded to:

libgnomeprint15-0.31-ximian.1.i586.rpm

things started to work.

Boy... Keeping up with RPM's is a chore. :-)

Thanks to all who helped!

[Evolution] getting netscape to launch an evolution compose window

2001-12-06 Thread John Klassa

I checked the FAQ, and I searched the net, but I can't find an answer to
this (other than, in general, to use muttzilla). How does one get
netscape to launch an evolution compose window when you click a
mailto: link? How do you get evolution to launch a compose window
programmatically, in general?

Thanks,
John
