[Evolution] latest snapshot
Hi ! I just did my own regression test on the latest snapshot: - still doesn't display cut'n'paste HTML from IE/Outlook - some (new?) problems with non-ascii chars: I have a text mail in Latin-1 which is displayed directly in UTF8 (so "désolé" looks like "désolé") ... - I just saw the "Could not parse MIME message. Displaying as source.", that's pretty good ! - Seems to crash less with simultaneous POP retreivals ... time will tell. You suspected right. I have a vfolder called "à lire" which displayed wrongly in the title bar with sawfish. But that was for 0.9, since the last snapshot (0.10) it's OK. The libibex bug was caused by a corrupted mbox.ibex and crashed the mailer systematically when syncronising mail just after retreival. But the bug I was talking about in my previous mail is caused by getting mail from multiple POP accounts simultaneously. Well, speaking of this, I would like to disable the dialog which pops up when the server is unreachable. (sorry, my local build is borked, i can't do > line-breaks at all ;( ) speaking of line-breaks ... it's important to be able to send & receive text-only mails (good, Evo can do it), fully preserved (Evo can't do it). A good example: when sending patches to linux-kernel, they must be "in clear-text under your message", so lines must be left in one piece, and whitespaces must be preserved. Attachment is not an option, because the reply may include pieces of patches. OK, I just checked and it's possible to turn off word-wrapping when using "preformatted" instead of "normal" as the composing style. Good. Tabs should be left as-is, at least when copying/pasting in the composer. Currently they are pasted as a non-ascii character (showing as "NL" with the font I use, but I think it's an actual tab). But when sent they are correctly sent as tabs. So I suppose the "tab" char in just incorrectly displayed in the composer. What's worse is that when received, they are shown as 8 spaces ! So I can't copy/paste a received patch, it's just plain unusable - even in "view source" mode. It seems to be a gtkhtml problem. In gnome-terminal (unlike some other terminals), when you copy/paste a tab it's not transformed in spaces. Try it right now, type: echo 'gnome-termi^V^I' where ^V is Ctrl-V and ^I is the tab key, then copy/paste the line (triple-left click, middle click) in your bash, and voilà ! [Evolution] evo sends 8bits mail without correct MIME header
Folks, I really don't know what I should do when legitimate (but malformed) email gets bounced by some systems because their writers consider that malformed email is a bad thing, and must not be accepted. We see also increasing amount of bounces by systems who think that some 10 line linux-kernel text message is spam... There are two things: - Senders must REALLY send valid messages - Recipients SHOULD be more lenient on what they accept (And spam-detectors be smarter. Having URLs mentioned in message text - maybe that was the reason - should not mean it is spam...) If we ever automate recipient removal (we have means for it, more or less), there would be no warning whatsoever when a subscriber gets kicked out. /Matti Aarnio FAILED: Original Recipient: rfc822;[EMAIL PROTECTED] Control data: smtp ignus.com [EMAIL PROTECTED] 99 Diagnostic texts: ...\ <<- MAIL From:<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> BODY=8BITMIME SIZE=1718 ->> 250 Ok. <<- RCPT To:<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> NOTIFY=FAILURE ORCPT=rfc822;[EMAIL PROTECTED] ->> 250 Ok. <<- DATA ->> 354 Ok. <<- . ->> 550-This message has 8-bit content, but does not have the required MIME ->> 550-headers. [Evolution] requests: paired RETR + DELE
Hi ! on the POP front again, I often have this problem: I'm getting some hundreds mails via POP, something hangs (maybe due to the POP server ?) and I have to cancel the mail retreival. Now I have to start it again. There are 2 problems: - when I hit cancel, the mail already retrieved are well filtered in the right folders, but they are NOT coloured, they stay black. - as these mails aren't deleted from server, they are retreived twice. when I receive 200 mails in a 3000-mails folder, it's not really easy to delete the duplicates. Evo should apply filters totally (colour and all) and delete from server mails as they are retreived, not do it all at once (retreive, then delete, then apply filters) as it does now. I would like to see mails inserted one by one in the folders as they are filtered (as in outlook), and know that if the transfert stops, all mails already transfered are only in my folders, and others are only on the server. [Evolution] Color with IMAP
Hi ! I'm slowly switching to IMAP (with the help from fetchmail, imapd, etc..) and I still miss some features: - I can't create folders (but Dan said it's some sort of transient bug) - I can't assign colors to mails. I would like to know if it's really impossible with IMAP folders, or if it's just me. Xav ___ evolution maillist - [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.helixcode.com/mailman/listinfo/evolution

[Evolution] Ximians, GET A MODEM !!
Hi ! I think Ximian should buy each Evo developper a 56k modem and force them to use Evo only on that modem, through a bad phone line - and best of all, on an old laptop. And some of them should use POP, some IMAP, and some a combination of both. I'm currently using Evo on my laptop, over a phone line, with POP and IMAP accounts. I can garantee you that's it's not a pleasure: - if the connection hangs during a POP retreival, I have tons of duplicate mails - if the IMAP connection fails anytime, I'm often rewarded with a crash - the time to go to offline mode is too long - reading IMAP mail in online mode is not really convenient I've already filled a bugzilla entry for the 1st one, I'll look for others (how to quickly find if a similar bug is already submitted ?) I use POP only, so maybe that happens to you when using IMAP? Yes, it's the time needed to retrieve unread IMAP mails apparently. But what distrubs me is that apparently the net led isn't flashing continuously, so maybe the connection isn't optimized (too many "wait for ack" ?) Evo should do, for each mail x: RETR x (now the mail n° x is safely appended to the mbox file or what-not) DELE x (now it's deleted from the server) and after all mails are processed, sync folders and stuff This way, if Evo crashes the worst that can happen is (half) a duplicate mail and/or an unsynced folder. The folder will automatically be synced at startup (because of file access datestamp). I think that the duplicate mail can be avoided too.
