I had a situation where Google only allowed me to check my email a
certain number of times a day, and any attempt after I had used up my
allowance that day would be blocked with a time out message. Solution
was to check Google email fewer times per day so that I didn't run out
the clock so early in the day.

Is this a Flatpak or other installing inside of a sandbox or VM?  As
Pete mentioned, it sounds like the environment is out of disk space.

My evo 3.42.4 has a tiny border between the left panel and the message
listing where the mouse icon turns into a two-headed arrow. This
border allows the panel split to be adjusted left or right to make the
left panel bigger or smaller.

Which got reinstalled, Evo or Dovecot? Or both?

Does Dovecot actually serve the files to a different email client --
there might be a permissions problem or something else keeping Dovecot
from reading the old emails.

If you have the old evolution directory in your home, perhaps try
renaming and starting with a blank directory? Make sure Evo is shut
down completely before renaming the folder:

evolution --force-shutdown

The Google calendar I was using stopped allowing login from my Linux
machine earlier this week. I think they've changed their login for
non-Google apps in a way that impacts Linux as a whole, not only
Evolution. So yes, you aren't the only person who was impacted by
this.

I didn't pursue a fix, I just removed my google accounts from Evolution
and disabled the Google account from the Gnome panel to make the login
prompts go away. Unfortunately not everybody has the option of
installing their own OwnCloud server and ditching Google the way I did.

Hi Max
Connecting Evolution to Google Contacts is really easy. Your OS
(Fedora?) will have an "online accounts" section of the Gnome settings
(or whatever the equivalent is). Just add your Google account in there
and Evolution should automatically pick up that there is a contacts
list and a calendar available for it to use. Using the online accounts
is easier than trying to set it up directly in Evolution.

Hi Aaron
You seem to be using Gnome desktop (as opposed to KDE, etc.), so be
aware that there are two ways to connect a gmail account to Evolution.
One is directly through Evolution, the other is through the Gnome
desktop environment. You claim to be new to Evo (Evolution), so I'll
make a rather detailed explanation of what the these options are.

If you used the Gnome Settings panel to create an 'online account' for
your gmail address, then evolution picks this up automatically and
shows it as a mailbox (even though you won't have set it up in Evo,
this happens automatically). In this case, you configure (and remove)
this account in Gnome by (usually clicking the top right corner of the
screen) selecting "settings", and then scroll down to find "@ Online
Accounts".

The other way to tell which how you've added your Gmail account is to
look in Evolution, open Edit|Preferences|Mail Accounts. If you see a
little icon (round blue icon on my system) beside your gmail account
(but no "Enabled" radio button), then your gmail account configuration
is in Gnome and not Evo.

So once you have figured out whether the account was entered into
Evolution or Gnome, you can try removing the account from there, and
adding it instead to the other option (if Gnome, then try in Evo; if in
Evo, then remove it and try in Gnome).

See if that helps.

I've experienced an issue with Google's server refusing to serve more

quota.  I fixed this by setting the checking interval to "60 minutes"
instead of "15 minutes".

Is this what you are encountering?

Hi Mike
Be warned, the rabbit hole you are about to dive down is DEEP.

Linux has some pretty powerful tools for manipulating raw text data
from a shell, so what you are really asking about is "how do I
manipulate text files using the shell and pipes". It isn't really an
evolution-specific question.

This isn't the right forum for Linux shell questions, but I'll give you
a hint to try searching duckduckgo for topics like "parsing text files
from bash scripts".

Here's two web pages that gives you a high-level picture of the text
manipulation possible in Linux:
 https://www.linux.org/threads/command-line-text-manipulation.11825/

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/22546395/shell-bash-parsing-text-file

Also read up on "pipes" and "regex" (aka "regular expressions").

Good luck!

Sometimes I find that the "Show:" drop-down menu has switched from its

You are probably better off use the shell script to communicate
directly with sendmail or another shell program. A scripting language
like perl, PHP, or python might also be useful. BCC yourself to get
the messages in your inbox, then you can move them to the outbox
manually or using a rule.

Export your evolution address list as a CSV or other flat file, then
have your script parse that into the message you want to send (which is
stored as another text file).

Be aware that you need to make sure you connect to your ISPs gateway,
and that ISPs will probably have a limit on the number of msgs that can
be sent in a period of time (like, an hour). Then a cooldown period
will apply before you can send more.
