Apart from Evolution, you can use DavMail (Java based at
http://davmail.sourceforge.net/) which translates Exchange into standard
protocols for use with standard clients imap/ldap/etc. I use both Evo
and Dav depending on the computer I am at (windows/mac/linux/guest
machine/home machine/etc.).

[Evolution] Missing "From:" information in messages I sent

2015-12-14 Thread Martin Dietze
Maybe a stupid questions - since upgrading to Evolution 3.18, in all
new messages I write my name (i.e. the "From:" field) does no longer
display, not in message lists in folders (empty column), and not in
the detail view (the message starts with the recipients' names)

Is this anything I need to configure (if yes, how?), a bug?

Cheers,

Martin

It is.

I just checked the "message source" menu entry when displaying one of
those messages. The "From:" header is empty.
This seems very weird. I am connected to an Exchange server using EWS.

Cheers,

Martin

Hi,
that's the reason. It had been fixed for 3.18.3 of the evolution-ews,
which was released (with the rest of the core evolution products) just
today.

Check Preferences->Mail Preferences->Headers and make sure the From box
is ticked.

Your mail to this list does have the From: header, so it would seem
that the problem is in the EWS server. Some things you could try:

 * Use an independent account (preferably on an IMAP or POP server) and
   see what happens.
 * Try a different email client.
 * Temporarily configure your Sent Messages to a local folder and see
if the header is present in the copies of sent mail.

Yes, but this is my private email address using google mail's web interface.

Tried local delivery through sendmail. In that case the sender

Won't do, since there's no alternative to Evolution when working with
an Exchange server.

I copied some mails to a local folder in mbox format. The "From:"
field is empty, too.

That supports the assumption that something in the combination
Evolution/Exchange does not work

Problem is that - as usual in such cases - I'm working in a
Windows-centric environment where there is no support to be expected
for my not using Outlook.

Martin

Thank you! I just stumbled across this bug report [1] myself. Just one
more question: what do I need to empty the local cache for my Exchange
account?

Cheers,

Martin

I've applied that git commit from the gnome-3.18 branch to my version
3.18.2 and rebuilt the rpm, works fine, thank you!

Hi,
it's stored in
   ~/.cache/evolution/mail//
by default. You may pick the right one based on its content. Simply
delete it and let evolution-ews download it again. You can also safe
some bandwidth and delete only files in the Sent Items subfolder. It'll
work too, though only for the message preview, not for the message
list. Just do not forget to update to 3.18.3 or any later version
before doing that.
