Hey Arlin,

I won't be attending this meeting today.  I've asked Chelsio to

Thanks,

I think we should consider 4.17, which should hit RC1 around 4/15.   If
we kept our sparse kernel tree refreshed as the RCs progress, it should
be doable.  And it allows OFED to not lag so far behind upstream
releases.  My 2 cents...

Or at least 4.16.  I'm not sure why we would consider 4.15.x...

[ewg] new chelsio firmware

2018-02-14 Thread Steve Wise
Hey Arlin,

Chelsio was wondering about pushing their latest FW into 4.8-2. Is it too
late for that, or will there be an RC2?

Thanks,

Steve.

[ewg] cxgb4 testing on OFED-4.8-2

2017-12-20 Thread Steve Wise
Hey Arlin,

Chelsio ran a sanity/regression test with the OFED-4.8-2 daily build, on
RHEL7.4 with cxgb4 and things look good. For SLES12SP3, though, they are
experiencing a handful of problems. Digging into it now, but we're seeing
a general protection fault in iwpmd, and some seg faulting with rping. Plus
an error trying to change the MTU. We'll open bugs soon.

Sorry I missed Monday's meeting. I'll also be absent for the next one on
1/1/2018.

Was this actually yesterday's 10/23 meeting (which I missed, sorry)? The
subject confused me. :-)

I've seem to lost the calendar event for these meetings. Arlin, can you please
resend that to me?

Thanks,

Re: [ewg] OFED-4.8-rc3 fails to build on RHEL6.6

2017-05-22 Thread Steve Wise
Turns out the QA team was using 4.8.17 kernel on a RHEL6.6 distro. And this is
a regression from RC2 apparently:

Hi Steve,

We are running on a 4.8.17 kernel with RHEL6.6 as base OS, the -RC2 was working
fine.

You're right. I mistakenly looked at the older release notes that included
6.6. Our 4.8 release notes don't include RHEL6.

Never mind.

Yes, please send updated release notes to Rupert. Looks like RC3 on Wednesday
and GA in 2 weeks if all goes well.
This gives everyone time to test RC3 and get release notes updated.

2017-04-24 Thread Steve Wise
Hey Arlin, I have one upstream fix for cxgb4 that I can submit by EOB today. It
would be good to get that in RC2. I'll be on today's call.

Thanks,

Steve.

Here is quick OFED 4.8 RC2 readiness update.

We now have workarounds for remaining bugs. If we can pull in rdma-core v13,
back out the PVRDMA changes from RC1, and include the 3 new released packages, I
think we can move to RC2. Any objections?

Vlad, do you have the cycles available to complete these last few items by end
of week?

*Board approval process for OFED 4.8 should begin, need approval by May 15th GA
target.
*  In process
*OFED 4.8:
http://downloads.openfabrics.org/OFED/ofed-4.8/OFED-4.8-rc1.tgz
*  RC2 readiness list:
* rdma-core v13 release package approved, need to pull in for RC2.
*VMware/Vlad, remove "out of tree" patches pushed into RC1.
*patches needed beyond v13 release?
* new libibscif, libfabric, and fabtests ready for RC2.
* Bug #2622 - qib: release note update is sufficient
* Bug #2621 - lustre fails daily builds (try RC1) - not blocking bug, update?
* Bug #2619 - IPoIB with latest FW fails to join multicast group.
*MT_2180110032 from 12.18.2000 to 12.12.1100 fixed problem.
*  NFS-rdma backports - deferred until OFED 4.8-1 (confirmed).

2017-02-08 Thread Steve Wise
Hey Arlin,

What is new in 3.18-3? I guess I missed that this was being released.

Chelsio is working on cxgb backports now for OFED-4.8. Hopefully within the
next 2 weeks.

What is the status of GPL-only code that is in OFED-4.8? Are we able to
release?

Thanks,

Steve.

Hmm, so it will load the provider libraries directly specifying the full path?
IE 'ldconfig -p' doesn't matter?

Vlad already clarified that the OFED installer uninstalls distro rpms, so I
think OFED is good.

Actually, I was assuming the load path used by libibverbs would be done based on
'ldconfig -p'. If that is not the case, then everything is ok...I think.

That's good! I missed that. I guess I was looking at uninstall.sh, and assumed
install.pl called that.

[ewg] OFED-4.8, rdma-core, and library paths

2017-02-07 Thread Steve Wise
Hey,

I think we have an issue with the new rdma-core packaging and OFED-4.8. I think
OFED-4.8 installs provider libraries in a different location than previous
releases of the provider libs. The result of this, I think, is that OFED-4.8
installed over a destro with its own provider libs installed will result in two
versions of the libs installed, and further, the system might end up using the
distro provider libs with newer OFED drivers, which could be problematic. I
believe the OFED installer uninstalls previous OFED rpms, but not distro rpms.
From what I can tell, it uses the ofed_info command, if it exists, to determine
which rpms to uninstall. So if there is no previous OFED installed, then
ofed_info will not exist so the distro rdma rpms will not be uninstalled. Prior
to OFED-4.8, I think this was somewhat benign, because OFED would install the
provider libs over the currently installed distro libs, and thus nobody noticed.
But now the rdma-core package puts the provider libs in a different location,
thus exposing this issue.

What do folks think about this? Should OFED-4.8 try and uninstall rdma
cmds/libs regardless of where they came from? Perhaps optionally. Or should
this just be documented so the admin is required to deal with it? I think if we
leave OFED as-is, we'll end up with lots of support issues where old libs are
being loaded causing problems.

Thoughts? Am I missing something in the OFED-4.8 installer that avoids this
issue?

2016-10-10 Thread Steve Wise
Hey Arlin, I have a conflict and cannot make today's call.

My status update: I'm beginning work on cxgb* for both RHEL7.2 and SLES12 SP1
this week. I'm slightly confused as to why I'm seeing the compile problem with
OFED-4.8 compiling on linux-4.8. I didn't hear from Vlad regarding my compat
patch, and I don't think he merged it.

I have a conflict and won’t be attending the call today. Chelsio has no new
issues with testing, and I think from their perspective, 3.18-2 is good to go.

this? It is assigned to Doug Ledford, but I'm not sure he's the correct

2016-05-09 Thread Steve Wise
Hey Arlin, I cannot attend today's call.

Chelsio update: They have executed their regression test and identified one
bug that we're tracking internally. However, it is not a regression from
OFED-3.18-1 so I'm not inclined to hold up this release for it.

Hey Sean,

I'm installing OFED-3.18-2, so the libfabric and fabrictests packages are from
that kit. I would think they should work together. :) But it worked on
another machine with the same backing distro/kernel, so it is something
specific to this machine. Maybe an old libfabric that didn't get uninstalled
by the OFED install script? I'll send out an email if I figure this out. In
the meantime I just didn't install fabritests...

Thanks,

Steve.

Never mind. I needed to pull both compat and compat-rdma to get the fixes.

It builds ok with the RHEL6.4 2.6.32-431.el6.x86_64 kernel, but I still see the
same error with RHEL6.5 / 2.6.32-504.el6.x86_64.

Re: [ewg] compat-rdma compile error

2015-01-05 Thread Steve Wise
Looks like the 4/6 parameter support has been added in compat: compat-3.1.h, so
the patch to netlink.c in compat-rdma is no longer
needed?

[ewg] compat-rdma compile error

2015-01-05 Thread Steve Wise
Hey Vlad/Tatyana,

I'm seeing this compiling the latest compat-rdma tree against a RHEL6.6
2.6.32-504.el6.x86_64 kernel:

  CC [M] /root/ofed/compat-rdma/drivers/infiniband/core/netlink.o
/root/ofed/compat-rdma/drivers/infiniband/core/netlink.c:168:48: error: macro
"netlink_dump_start" requires 6 arguments, but only 4
given
/root/ofed/compat-rdma/drivers/infiniband/core/netlink.c: In function
âibnl_rcv_msgâ:
/root/ofed/compat-rdma/drivers/infiniband/core/netlink.c:168: warning: return
makes integer from pointer without a cast
/root/ofed/compat-rdma/drivers/infiniband/core/netlink.c:159: warning: unused
variable âcâ
make[4]: *** [/root/ofed/compat-rdma/drivers/infiniband/core/netlink.o] Error 1
make[3]: *** [/root/ofed/compat-rdma/drivers/infiniband/core] Error 2
make[2]: *** [/root/ofed/compat-rdma/drivers/infiniband] Error 2
make[1]: *** [_module_/root/ofed/compat-rdma] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/kernels/2.6.32-504.el6.x86_64'
make: *** [kernel] Error 2

Here's my config line:

./configure --with-core-mod --with-user_mad-mod --with-user_access-mod
--with-addr_trans-mod

Should this compile ok?

Thanks,

Steve.

Hi Steve,
First, I rebased backports with linux-3.18-rc6.
Second, I use "git am" to refresh backports for the new kernel RC. So,
please create your patches in format that can be applied by "git am".
And it does not matter if you add a patch per kernel or one patch for
many kernels.

Can you please describe the process you followed to refresh the kernel
RC? That will help me better understand things.

Thanks, Why did these files change? Am I doing something incorrectly?
0019 is really backport changes for RHEL7, SLES12, and linux-3.12. And
0015 is also for multiple kernels.I think the confusion is that I've
been refreshing these files as opposed to adding new patches for each
kernel. I guess I'm wrong in trying to do that?
