RE: $$Excel-Macros$$ Help in Separate the Num Alpha in a cell into another two cells
Hi, Unfortuneately, your data is not as it appears. On the workbook you posted, select cell B5. Look in the formula bar (just above the Column headers) You will see: 180.5 even though the cell displays 180.500 kg This is because custom cell formatting in B5 puts in the extra info. Now, in cell E5, put '=B5' (without the quotes) You will see that just the value from B5 is returned, since Cell E5 doesn't have the custom formatting. So it's easy to get the values you want, but hard to get the units. Regards - Dave. $$Excel-Macros$$ Re: Calculation based on changing conditions
Steve, Lets assume that your columns are labeled A, B C. meaning that cell A2=2, B2=3, C2=5 put this formula in cell C2, =IF(B2=,A2+C1-A1,B2+A2) Copy that formula down. Michael On Aug 28, 12:43 am, xsrossiter steverossi...@sbcglobal.net wrote: Hello, I am using Excel 2002 SP3 and hope to find a conditional solution using formulas rather than a macro. In column A are a series of values, column B has values at irregular intervals, and column C contains calculated values based on a value in column B until a new value in column B is encountered and then it incorporates the new column B value in its calculation. A B C 2 3 5 6 9 8 11 4 2 6 15 17 8 10 21 8 29 For example, column C contains a formula to sum columns A and B. It adds 3 to whatever value is in column A until the fourth row at which point it adds 2 to whatever value is in the A column and finally as it gets to the seventh row begins adding 8 to A column values. Is there some formula that can be placed in column C that will follow this logic and avoid using a macro? Column A at this point has 86 rows and column B has 14 values at varying intervals. Re: $$Excel-Macros$$ Help in Separate the Num Alpha in a cell into another two cells
Hm, for some reason I only received this email after I send the last one. Ashish's solution is much more elegant than mine. Please forgive for sending useless attachments to your emails. On Sun, Aug 29, 2010 at 5:32 AM, ashish koul koul.ash...@gmail.com wrote: check the attachment if it helps On Sun, Aug 29, 2010 at 1:21 PM, Dave Bonallack davebonall...@hotmail.com wrote: Hi, Unfortuneately, your data is not as it appears. On the workbook you posted, select cell B5. Look in the formula bar (just above the Column headers) You will see: *180.5* even though the cell displays *180.500 kg* This is because custom cell formatting in B5 puts in the extra info. Now, in cell E5, put '=B5' (without the quotes) You will see that just the value from B5 is returned, since Cell E5 doesn't have the custom formatting. So it's easy to get the values you want, but hard to get the units. (Select one of the cells and see what appears in the formula bar). The units are done with the formatting. So you only need a simple =A2 sort of formula in a cell with general formatting to return the value. Returning the unit can't be done with worksheet formulas, I don't think. You'll need VBA to copy the formatting of each cell to the new column, which will display the unit.
