RE: $$Excel-Macros$$ Help in Separate the Num Alpha in a cell into another two cells

2010-08-29 Thread Dave Bonallack

Hi,

Unfortuneately, your data is not as it appears. On the workbook you posted,
select cell B5.

Look in the formula bar (just above the Column headers)

You will see: 180.5 even though the cell displays 180.500 kg
This is because custom cell formatting in B5 puts in the extra info.

Now, in cell E5, put '=B5' (without the quotes)

You will see that just the value from B5 is returned, since Cell E5 doesn't
have the custom formatting.

So it's easy to get the values you want, but hard to get the units.

Regards - Dave.

values, column B has values at irregular intervals, and column C
contains calculated values based on a value in column B until a new
value in column B is encountered and then it incorporates the new
column B value in its calculation.

    A        B        C
    2         3        5
    6                   9
    8                  11
    4         2         6
   15                 17
    8                  10
   21        8        29

For example, column C contains a formula to sum columns A and B. It
adds 3 to whatever value is in column A until the fourth row at which
point it adds 2 to whatever value is in the A column and finally as it
gets to the seventh row begins adding 8 to A column values.

Is there some formula that can be placed in column C that will follow
this logic and avoid using a macro? Column A at this point has 86 rows
and column B has 14 values at varying intervals.

Thanks for your help and time.

 Steve

Re: $$Excel-Macros$$ How to Use Vlook with String

2010-08-29 Thread Dilip Pandey
Dear Thakur,

I am not sure what you are looking for. Can you elaborate more
through a sample file.

If you are willing to vlookup the values based on the names, then
vlookup will fetch the first value and will ignore the other values
which are in bottom. Further to this, I am not sure what are you
trying to achieve through Vlookup. Please explain more on this.
Thanks.

  Hi,
Unfortuneately, your data is not as it appears. On the workbook you
 posted, select cell B5.
Look in the formula bar (just above the Column headers)
You will see: *180.5* even though the cell displays *180.500 kg*
This is because custom cell formatting in B5 puts in the extra info.
Now, in cell E5, put '=B5' (without the quotes)
You will see that just the value from B5 is returned, since Cell E5
 doesn't have the custom formatting.
So it's easy to get the values you want, but hard to get the units.

 Hi,
You have custom formatting in the both of your main data columns, which
means that only the numeric value is entered. (Select one of the cells and
see what appears in the formula bar). The units are done with the
formatting. So you only need a simple =A2 sort of formula in a cell with
general formatting to return the value. Returning the unit can't be done
with worksheet formulas, I don't think. You'll need VBA to copy the
formatting of each cell to the new column, which will display the unit.
