RE: $$Excel-Macros$$ Cloud Storage

2012-02-01 Thread Asa Rossoff
Charlie,

Google docs offers both free file hosting (you can download and share your
Excel files in their native format) and a web-based cloud computing platform
that allows you to work on spreadsheets and other "office" documents online
from a web browser (definitely in the category of "look-alike" -- and no
such web-based solution today has all the features that desktop office
software has).

If you want to be able to use the "real" Excel from anywhere, perhaps you
are looking for a hosted virtual desktop solution, where your operating
system and software reside on cloud servers and the "screen" can be streamed
to you on your computer or other computers. I don't know a lot about this
market but apparently it is getting quite big. Possibly mainly for
corporate accounts serving many users, like the offer here:
http://www.tucloud.com/hosted_virtual_desktop.html. Their plans start at 50
users and they advertise "less than a dollar a day" for Windows 7 and
Microsoft Office.

Asa

$$Excel-Macros$$ Liniking Pivot Tables

2012-02-01 Thread lional deo
Hi Friends,

This is lional and I am in need of a help.

I have to prepare five different pivots for a single data set.

in order to get the data in required format, I have to keep changing master
data. Now I just want to know is there any way to link the pivots so that
If I make any changes in the first pivot and the other pivots can also be
changed accordingly.

here the change which I am talking about is the changes like filters. for
instance, I am changing the report filter of a first pivot, will the other
pivots filter change at once? Is there any way exists to do that?

It would be more helpful If you guys can help me out in this.

kindly get back to me in case my question is not clear to you.

Thank you

Yours,
Lional

Re: $$Excel-Macros$$ Display numbers in Lakhs

2012-02-01 Thread NOORAIN ANSARI
Dear Abdul,

You can divide numbers by 1,000,000 to display in millions, but this
changes the value of the number. A better way to display numbers in
millions is to use a *Custom Number Format*.

[image:
Photobucket]

   - Choose Format > Cells
   - On the *Number* tab, select *Custom* from the *Category* list
   - Paste one of the following formulas in the *Type* field
  - To display millions with one decimal, paste *#.0,,;(#.0,,)*
  - To display millions with a dollar sign and one decimal, paste *
  $#.0,,;($#.0,,)*
  - To diplay millions with two decimal places, paste *#.00,,;(#.00,,)*
  - To diplay millions with a dollar sign and with two decimal places,
  paste *$**#.00,,;($#.00,,)*
  - To diplay millions with three decimal places, paste *
  #.000,,;(#.000,,)*
  - To diplay millions with a dollar sign and three decimal places,
  paste *$**#.000,,;($#.000,,)*

Please could you be a little more clear what you want. It is very hard to
understand what you have written. Also, please avoid this practice of
writing your requirement IN the file. The email text area is given to type
in your text, not just to attach files.

Sounds more of a project request that a help request.

Why don't you first do a search on the internet, try to put some macro
together by looking for keywords that define your objective. Once you do
work on that, bring that to the forum. Volunteers here will then be able to
help you.

Re: $$Excel-Macros$$ Liniking Pivot Tables

2012-02-01 Thread Sam Mathai Chacko
Each pivot table is linked to the other pivot table only through the pivot
cache, and that too if they are using the same source. There is no way in
Excel where you can filter one pivot table, and have the other pivot tables
also to get filtered.

The best you can look at is to have a sub routine created that will take
the pivot, the fields and what to change to as arguments.

You can start with this

Public Sub directa()
Const strURL_c As String = "http://www.xyz.com";
Const strUsr_c As String = "ABC"
Const strPwd_c As String = "DEF"
Dim objIE As SHDocVw.InternetExplorer
Dim ieDoc As MSHTML.HTMLDocument
Dim tbxPwdFld As MSHTML.HTMLInputElement
Dim tbxUsrFld As MSHTML.HTMLInputElement
Dim btnSubmit As MSHTML.HTMLInputElement
On Error Goto Err_Hnd
 'Create Internet Explorer Object
Set objIE = New SHDocVw.InternetExplorer
 'Navigate the URL
objIE.navigate strURL_c
 'Wait for page to load
Do Until objIE.readyState = READYSTATE_COMPLETE: Loop
 'Get document object
Set ieDoc = objIE.document
'Get username/password fields and submit button.
Set tbxPwdFld = ieDoc.all.Item("USER")
Set tbxUsrFld = ieDoc.all.Item("PASSW")
Set btnSubmit = ieDoc.all.Item("SUBMIT")

 'Fill Fields
tbxPwdFld.Value = strUsr_c
tbxUsrFld.Value = strPwd_c
 'Click submit
btnSubmit.Click
 'Wait for page to load
Do Until objIE.readyState = READYSTATE_COMPLETE: Loop
Err_Hnd: '(Fail gracefully)
objIE.Visible = True
End Sub

Re: $$Excel-Macros$$ Liniking Pivot Tables

2012-02-01 Thread Rohan
I kind of agree with sam on this, and dont think that there is a way
by which any other pivot table will get effected by changing the value
of one pivot table. If you often apply filter on the same kind of
data, then you can always use the SLICERS in Excel, which should
definitely solve your concern.

Thanks,
Rohan.

RE: $$Excel-Macros$$ Excel Macro to navigate IE

2012-02-01 Thread Asa Rossoff
Hello Kiran,

Have you considered the approach of using web queries? Excel can
automatically retrieve data from URLs that contain tables or XML/RSS and put
it in a worksheet. Excel can also automatically refresh the data from the
web on a set schedule if desired. The feature works in all version of Excel
since Excel 97 (with some limitations to support in Excel 2008 on the Mac).

Here are some links with more information:

RE: $$Excel-Macros$$ Excel Macro to navigate IE

2012-02-01 Thread Asa Rossoff
Hi Kiran,

No problem. I wanted to investigate if their was any way to get web
queries to work with your URLs. Notice that the links I gave describe how
to work with parameters in some cases. Also you might be able to use Yahoo!
Pipes or DERI Pipes to convert other URLs to XML format (and even merge and
manipulate data from multiple sources), and then use an Excel Web Query to
fetch that. "Pipes" can be password protected with both services.

However, making a direct connection and parsing the data yourself (as in
your IE manipulation request) would be more secure than allowing
confidential data to pass through third-party servers with Yahoo or DERI
Pipes.

I will leave the IE stuff to others, as I haven't done it in many years and
don't have any ready examples. (Looks like Sam posted a good starting off
point)

Hi Kiran,

(Looks like Sam posted a good starting off
point)

Can you give an example of a web page and the links the macro would click on
it?

Hi Asa,

I agree with you. Excel can extract Web query.

In my current requirement i don't have a constant URL to download the data.

Like www.Google.com -> Calender -> (My case URL is only one)

These kind of URLS I have.

The Macro need to open IE click on Specified links and copy the data to
Excel.

Thanks & Regards,

Kiran

Hello Kiran,

Have you considered the approach of using web queries? Excel can
automatically retrieve data from URLs that contain tables or XML/RSS and put
it in a worksheet. Excel can also automatically refresh the data from the
web on a set schedule if desired. The feature works in all version of Excel
since Excel 97 (with some limitations to support in Excel 2008 on the Mac).
