Re: $$Excel-Macros$$ Re:Data Validation

2012-10-23 Thread Umar Abeer
Hi Rajan

I think I was not clear enough my bad.

Basically, normal validation in excel works by limiting/controlling the
inputs to a cell. Here on my P&L, I have my net profit line which I don't
want to change and is liked to like a 100 sheets and comes through formula.

One way of doing it is to lock the entire workbook for editing but in my
case that is not feasible. So I was thinking maybe if some kind of
validation control could be devised so as to prompt me whenever the net
profit number changes.

Thanks
Dino

 Hi Friends,

 I am using MS Access 2007.
 I have table called "City".
 The table "City" contains the information of the different cities of

 For example,
 CityDetails
 Mumbai It is the Financial capital of India
 Delhi Capital of India
 I have also form for retrieving details of the city
 It contains the drop down list for all cities of India
 If I select Mumbai from the drop down list, then it should display
 the details.
 However, I have another search option i.e. "Search by Keyword"
 In Search by keyword, if we enter any string from the details
 column.
 It should display all records that consists the specified string.
 For example, if we enter the string "capital" in text box, then it
 should display all records containing the string "capital".
 I need the macro (or any other solution) to do this.
 I hope, I am able to explain what I need.
 I know, this group is dedicated to MS Excel only. But I also know
 there are many experts who does well in Access as well.

 So I request all please help me by providing suitable solutions.

hmm... just to be clear, your statement:

"Just remove the inverted commas"

is not entirely accurate.

Those are quotes (") not commas(,)

and, "inverted" means up-side-down.

The quotes that were used is what is called "curly quotes" or "book quotes"

or techincally called "reversed" or "double prime" quotes.

In some cases, an editor (html, or possibly MS Word), when using a specific
font,

may convert them as to indicate an "opening" and "closing" quote.

Nevertheless, while some programming languages utilize them, VBA does not.

So, as you indicated, if the code was entered into one of these editors
which

converted the symbol, it would have to be corrected before VBA would
recognize it.

You can extract number only form a string without vba,

Anyway ,here is a VBA code to extract NUMBER,TEXT,SPECIAL CHR from a string

= RemoveContents(StringToReplace, 1)   ' To Remove Text

= RemoveContents(StringToReplace, 2)  ' To Remove Number

= RemoveContents(StringToReplace, 3)  ' To Remove Special Characters

Function RemoveContents(StringToReplace, WhatRemove As Long) As String

Dim RegEx As Object

Set RegEx = CreateObject("VBScript.RegExp")

With RegEx

.Global = True

Select Case WhatRemove

Case 1

.Pattern = "[a-z]"

Case 2

.Pattern = "\d"

Case 3

.Pattern = "[\;+\.+\#+\!+\'+\*+\,+\+\^+\&+\*+\@+\(+\)]"

End Select

End With

RemoveContents = RegEx.Replace(StringToReplace, "")

End Function

Re: $$Excel-Macros$$ MsgBox Query

2012-10-23 Thread Paul Schreiner
your macro is basically correct:

contents = Worksheets(“Sheet1”).Range(“A1”).Value
however, the 'quotes' in your line are incorrect.
(“) and (”) are improper delimeters.

It should read:

contents = Worksheets("Sheet1").Range("A1").Value

2012-10-23 Thread Amit Desai (MERU)
Dear All,

I have an excel file for which, there is Incentive worked out based on 2-3
parameters for the same Technician.

I want to do a vlookup with the total amount (of 2-3 amounts) against that
person. Please help me with a formula.

Best Regards,
Amit
