$$Excel-Macros$$ Re: What is the future of VBA?

2012-08-13 Thread Kishan Reddy, K
Comparing to Programming languages, application packages do have a long
life.

Still, why do you worry, about the future of VBA.

Softwares are born, evolve become obsolete over a period of time.

But software concepts, which have deep foundation in physical sciences
mathematics do have a long life.

While software professionals spend their time and resources to learn
softwares,
but will not try to understand the concepts fundamentals.

The persons who (at least try to) understands the concepts fundamentals
of various softwares
will not bother about the life span of a particular software.

Also, You can't project the life span of a software, just like you can't
assess the life span of your own life.

So, enjoy the fun of softwares and also the life.

$$Excel-Macros$$ Re: want to show always last date in date range in chart X-Axis

2012-08-13 Thread Kishan Reddy, K
One way is to display every value on x axis. But this will work only for
limited values on x.
Means your date range is below 20 or 30.

Here you have to format the x axis. Select the scale tab. set the minor
unit = 1 and major unit = 1.

Another way is to display the max date above or some where around the graph
for information purpose or add a suitable title reflecting the from date
and to date.

This is the way I found a solution, when i faced the same problem.

$$Excel-Macros$$ Re: Ledger opening balance and balance in MS Access

2011-12-07 Thread Kishan Reddy, K
You can create a form or report, with the required format.
It is needed to write VBA code based upon the dates given.

As u said If you require report from 01-jun-2010 to 31-aug-2010, which
will be provided as inputs to form/report
Then it is required to calculate the opening balance which is
obviously the closing balance as on 31-may-2010.

This can be done in two ways
(i) using SQL code
select sum(debit), sum(credit) from ledger where Date between fromdate
and todate.

(ii) using recordsource object/method where you get the required
records and process the records one by one.

This is only a skeleton.

If you are comfortable with forms and reports, please design it and
send a sample access file, so that I can add the required VBA code to
suit your purpose.

Re: $$Excel-Macros$$ MS Access solution

2011-12-07 Thread Kishan Reddy, K
Hello Rohan,

Even though Excel and Access are two products of MS-office, working
with them is quite different.

While in excel the core term is cell, which when culminated leads to
rows, columns, worksheets workbooks.
In excel we work with formulas functions, with relative or absolute
cell addressing, (either we use VBA codeing or not)

Where as in acces the primary term is record which is a DBMS
( Database management system) term.
MS-ACCESS, is a RDBMS, Relational Database Management System.

Here you need to work upon records, tables using queries, forms,
reports relationships.

Even though functions can be generally used here, It is advisable to
use queries or VBA code.

Send me a sample file with exact requirement, so that I can look up
and guide you.

Your requirement can be exactly and directly addressed using queries
VBA code.

Kishan Reddy, K

On Dec 6, 8:58 am, Asa Rossoff a...@lovetour.info wrote:
 Hi Rohan,
In Access you should build a query instead of doing a lookup.

Your query can refer to various parameters from fields in forms, or the user
can be prompted for parameters (Access treats all field names that don't
exist in a table as parameters).  The other time you might use vlookup in
Excel would be to cross-reference multiple tables of data.  In Access, just
use relationships between the tables and include all the referenced tables
 in your query.

The value from the previous day report can be calculated by your query,
along with the value for today's report, and you can set any criteria
related to that you like in your query.

After you create a query that retrieves all the data that will go on your
report, use that query as the data source for your report.

 Subject: $$Excel-Macros$$ MS Access solution

 Hi,
I have a new project in hand for building a reporting solution for MS
Access. I am trying to explore the idea as to how to I go about
getting the desired results. My challange is, that the report would
require to refer to the previous day report earlier done using the
VLOOKUP formula in excel. However, the idea of using VLOOKUP function
in Access is possible or not I am not sure. While exploring some new
functions in MS ACCESS, I came accross DLOOKUP but I am not sure, if
it can produce the same results.

Group, Need your assistance with any ideas that you can share as to
how do I go about accomplishing this. If you already have worked on a
solution like this which helps in daily reporting by comparing the
value from the previous day report and if you can share the solution
with me, that will really give me ideas and would be really
 appreciated. Thank you !!

 Regards,
 Rohan.

$$Excel-Macros$$ Re: Excel VBA/ Access

2011-09-16 Thread Kishan Reddy, K
Hello James,

I think for using any forms/running any quires, the access has to be
opened.

Also I think Connection method only used to share the data from the
table/queries.

Try the following code.

Sub MyOpenDb()
Dim appAccess As Object

Set appAccess = CreateObject(Access.Application)

appAccess.OpenCurrentDatabase (D:\XXX\ABCD.MDB)

appAccess.Visible = True

appAccess.docmd.openquery

appAccess.Quit

End Sub

Revert back, if any comments, issues

 Hi,

I have posted this on the access group too, it can't really be

I have an Access 2010 database, which I have saved as .mdb. (ie not
 accdb)

It has an update query in, which takes 2 string parameters. When I run
it from Access it works fine - asks me for the 2 parameters then
 updates the table accordingly.

However, I am trying to run it from Excel VBA. At first I thought the
issue was the parameters, so I created another update query which
takes 0 parameters. The continual error I get is 'Operation must use
 an updateable query'.

It goes without saying that I can connect to the database, and I can
run normal Select statements - anyone got any ideas? Code below:
(obviously the execute line is the one that gives the error).

 Function RunUpdateQuery(objConn As ADODB.Connection)
 Dim objCommand As ADODB.Command

     Set objCommand = New ADODB.Command

     With objCommand
          .ActiveConnection = objConn
          .CommandType = adCmdStoredProc
          .CommandText = qryTest
          .Execute
      End With

 End Function

2011-09-09 Thread Kishan Reddy, K
Try Ms-Access.
Put your data in a table and try the report wizard, which will guide
you.

If you still want the report in excel itself, it can be done using VBA
coding.

Send a sample file so that best approach can be decided based upon the
quantity of data and compelxity of the report.

Re: $$Excel-Macros$$ Unsolved Queries

2011-07-08 Thread Kishan Reddy, K
Be simple.

You might be well aware of command buttons, drop downs, Text box,
check box etc.
Well these are called CONTROLS or OBJECTS.

Either You are a programmer or not you might be well aware of these
controls,
You interact with these controls using keyboard or mouse or other
input divices.

Example with mouse You can click, double click, right click, drag
drop objects etc.
As well with keyboard you press the keys on the keyboard, known as
typing, means you press the keys.

These are nothing but called EVENTS (click, double click, right click,
keypress).

You expect something by CLICKING on a COMMAND BUTTON.

These expectations means, what should happen when an event is written
an EVENT-PROCEDURE

Simple Example.

You have a FORM.
It Contains a Command Button.
You want to display a message Command Button was clicked when the
command button is clicked.

So You write the code in the event procedure

Sub CommandButton_Press
Msgbox Command Button was clicked
End Sub

Let us see the BIG PICTURE.

Revisit CONTROLS/OBJECTS: command buttons, drop downs, Text box, check
box are simple controls.
Worksheet, Workbook are composite objects, which are made with other
objects ie, rows, columns, cells etc.

Workbook contains worksheets (collection of worksheet).
Worksheet contains rows, columns, cells etc.

Just like a Human body contains different organs (objects) like heart,
brain, stomack etc each will have its own functions (event procedure).
and each orgon inturn is made up of different types of cells (basic
controls).

This is called OBJECT ORIENTED PROGRAMMING or EVENT DRIVEN
PROGRAMMING.

Subject: $$Excel-Macros$$ Macro to monitor another Macro

  Hi Guys,

lets say there are 2 workbooks wkbk_run and wkbk_monitor.  wkbk_run has
  macro
which runs automatically and sometimes it throws OLE  error for which we
  need
 to

MANUALLY click OK button. i want wkbk_monitor to  monitor that wkbk_run and
whenever that OLE error occurs it should click OK  automatically. i know
  there
 is

some API to click OK button but i dont know  anything about it.

is it possible to create such a macro to monitor  another macro.
there are N numbers of Macros like wkbk_run so i cannot keep  that code in
  all
the workbook. so i want another macro to monitor all the  macro which runs
  automatically.

so it will be like monitor macro will  run when 1st macro starts running and
 that

will stop running when last macro  gets over.

  thanks guys.

please let me know if is it  possible?

I think it is the problem with heading row (field Names).
There are certian convensions which has to be followed while giving

In that case you can review (rename) the column names in such a way
that they will not include
any special characters and lengthy names.

If you still face the problem, please attach the file to locate the

$$Excel-Macros$$ Re: Filter Problem in Excel 2003

2010-11-08 Thread Kishan Reddy, K
Mr Ramesh,

I think the filter drop down list has a limitiation of 1000 entries
in excel 2003 which might be extended to a bigger number in excel
2007.

Again the dropdowns are re-populated when filter is set on a column.

For example, I filtered on 'Customer No' column for Nov-10, it got out
'deposit date' drop down values '1-nov-2010'.

What is understand is:
When, working with filter in a workbook (excel 2003) having more than
1000 rows,
if the criterias in a particular column also exceeds 1000 (like
deposit date), then it is better to break it into two columns.
Break the Deposit date into two columns, ie Deposit Month and Deposit
Date.
For filtering on a particular date, first filter on particular month
and then select the date.

1. Fixed deposit at 10% interest for five years.
2. an annuity plan :
end of 1st year you will get 17,000
end of 2nd year you will get 22,000
end of 3rd year you will get 27,000
end of 4th year you will get 32,000
end of 5th year you will get 37,000

In the first case you know the interest rate.
In the second case you have to calculate the interest rate.
So that you can choose what is more benificial.
for this purpose you can use IRR function

Just type your proposed investment and returns in like below
in A1 -10 Your investment
in B117000 first year return
in C122000 second year return... and the like D1, E1, F1

Now use IRR function =IRR(A1:F1)

This is only sample example.

 2) Details already entered in the databse should be ammendable through a
userform, like if i have to make changes in date of birth of a individual

 3) If someone want to view data for an individual then it can be done by
providing the unique Seq# in a user form.

You need not write any code for this.

Just open the form in VBA, select the text box1 and right click it,
select properties.

In that

do the same thing for text box2.

Re: $$Excel-Macros$$ Birthdays list formula or macro

2010-08-21 Thread Kishan Reddy, K
Hello, Phillip,

Handle this by step by step.

1. IN column E Put the Heading
 Date in the Current Year.
 add fomula in E8
 =DATE(YEAR($B$2),MONTH(B8),DAY(B8))

2. In column F put
Birthday falls in No. of days
   add formula in F8
  =E8-$B$2

3. In Column G put the Heading
 Get it in English
 add formula in G8
  =IF(F8=0,Today,IF(F8=1,Tomorrow,X))

Done.

If you don't require, you can hide E F.
Even though it can be done in signle step,
I Have divided this into three steps
for your better understanding and
to make it is for little modification by yourself.

Bye.

Divide your issue into two

1. schedule to auto Open an application/file at a particular file.

This is actually part of operating system.
in operating system (for example windows) take Help on SCHEDUAL A NEW
TASK.

2. executing a macro on opening the file.
This is part of excel. Just place your code in Workbook_open

Open the excel file/application.
Open the visula basic editor.
Select the This workbook.

Private Sub Workbook_Open()

End Sub

Copy the above two lines

Put you code in between this lines.

Your code will be executed every time the file is opened.

Hello Shariq,

I don't understand why can't you use pivot table.

Actually, it is simple with pivot table.

Just drag the date to the rows header.

drag the hours to the column header.

LoadId to the data area.

If you get sum on loadId, double click on it, and change it to count.

The only difference is you will get 1, instead of Yes.

$$Excel-Macros$$ Re: How can Divide the Numbers by 1 lac in excel

2010-08-20 Thread Kishan Reddy, K
You can use the following OPERATORS in excel

+addition,
- substraction
* multiplication
/ division

for example if your data is in Column B1, Just Type this column C

=B1/10

Your values in lacks will be available in column C

If you want round it (Restrict the number of decimal places)

Use this

=Round(B1/10,2)

It will round to two decimal places as we have given 2.

2. Using Commands (Data - Text to Columns

 a. Select the data

add the following two lines in the beginning of your code -

As per my policy, replacing/deleting any rows/values is not a good
idea.

I will simply use pivot table or subtotals command on the data and get
the results in another sheet.

 Hi Angelo,
The summing could be done with worksheet functions - probably SUMPRODUCT. But
the deleting of lines has to be done by macro, so it makes sense to do both
by macro. I can't look at it straight away, but if no one else comes up with
anything, I'll have a look later.

Word, the equation object is OMath (
 http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb256563%28office.12%29.aspx), and
the macro recorder records some actions done to such an object (like
changing equations from professional to inline). Excel 2010's macro recorder
does not reflect interactions with any object other than shapes when using
the equation editor, and I found no information regarding the usage of the
  OMath object under Excel.

It seems to me as if the OMath object is just Word's wrapper for
mathematic formulas, the actual COM object is Microsoft Equation X.
 0. This object is provided by Design Science Inc., and as far as I
can see on their homepage they don't have an Automation interface for
their component (they rather advertise the feature that one can import
MathML into their component, but you'll have to buy the latest version
 of their software).

Due to the nature of COM, the macro recorder cannot possibly track any
user interactions that are done to embedded objects. This means that
you're out of luck. A quick scan with Google yielded very little
usable information: It seems that automatable formula editing controls
are quite rare. Most probably it will be the easiest if you use Latex
to typeset your formulas and import the generated graphics into Excel.

This can be done using Vlookup function and filter command.

Use Vlookup function on Column B, and another Vlooku on Column C

Then Use filter command on Vlookuped columns where there are no #NA

Great things can be done with available (inbuilt) functions and

sort the data in sheet2 on id.
add another column besides ID. and place 1 in the columns

in sheet 1, Add another column (Example in D) to sheet1 and name it as
index (assuming data is in columns A B C)
use the following formula in D
vlookup(A2, SHEET2!$A$2:$B$10,2,FALSE)

Here you will get 1 in column D

Use filter command and fiter for 1's and delete them.

use the following formula in adjucant cell.

for example if your data is in column B2 then in C2 copy and paste the
following formula.

=RIGHT(B2,LEN(B2)-FIND($,B2)+1)

once you got all the values in column C

1. copy the contents in column C
2. use Edit - Paste special - values to paste them back in column B

Simple.

col_index_num is mandatory for vlookup function, range_lookup is
optional.
If range_lookup is not given it will take it as TRUE.
One important point for using Vlookup is that the table array should
be sorted on the first column.

$$Excel-Macros$$ Re: VBA code for importing data from excel to Access table

2010-07-19 Thread Kishan Reddy, K
Hello,

Very simple.

Select the macros tab.

click on the new button. Macro window will appear.

In actions column select 'TRANSFERSPREADSHEET'.

In action arguments column -
specify transfer type, spreadsheet type, table name into which data to
be exchanged, excel file name with path,
if the excel sheet is having header row in first column - set Has
field names to yes.
If you want to import only specified range from excle then mention the
range.

Just save it and name it accordingly.

Then select the macro and say RUN.

the macro will be executed.

If you still have a problem, send me the excel file and access DB to
me.
