That did it. I found out the issue (that user had macros disabled) and
made appropriate changes so it will now run.

Re: $$Excel-Macros$$ MS Excel, VBA and Windows Scheduler

2013-01-28 Thread Richard
Thank you David. Unfortunately you are right. I say unfortunately because
I am forced to change my password every 3 months, so having it on my logon
means one more thing to remember.

Any thoughts on what resources the alternate login, which never changes, is
looking for

Thanks again

Re: $$Excel-Macros$$ MS Excel, VBA and Windows Scheduler

2013-01-28 Thread David Grugeon
Hi Richard

I suppose you are trying to say that, although the workbook opens, it does
not do whatever the macro should do. Could this be because it is running
in the scheduler's workspace, which does not have access to your workspace.
you may need to get scheduler to run it using either your logon or else
gicve the scheduler logon access to all the resources needed.

You probably have set up a user for the Scheduler. Try logging on as that
user and then open the file and test the macro.

Regards
David Grugeon

$$Excel-Macros$$ MS Excel, VBA and Windows Scheduler

2013-01-28 Thread Richard
I have a workbook which has a VBA script in the thisworkbook called sub
workbook_open. When I open the workbook, it runs perfectly, and does
exactly what I want it to do.
If I try to schedule it to run at 5PM everyday, Windows Scheduler will show
that the job is running, and I know that the workbook is open because if I
try to open the workbook in Excel I get a message that says that it can
only be opened in read only since it is in use by my login ID on the
scheduler.
It eventually is killed by the scheduler when it exceeds the amount of time
allowed (it takes under in minute to process manually, and the timeout if
10 minutes. The scheduler log doesn't show any errors except that it was
stopped for exceeding the timeout.
Any thoughts would be appreciates. I have other workbooks that work
perfectly under Excel
Thanks in advance,
Rich Mogy

$$Excel-Macros$$ MS EXCEL 2007 and Significance Testing

2011-09-29 Thread Sarah Seager
I have data from two surveys. One survey was completed on 900 people
before a certain event happened, and then a second survey was
completed on a further 900 people after an event happened.

I need to calculate the % difference between the two whilst looking at
the demographics of the individuals.

E.g. difference between gender, ethnic group, age groups, etc.

I also then have to calculate the p-value of each of these to show
whether the difference between the pre and post surveys is
significant.

I'm guessing that a Chi-squared test is best for this, but how do I go
about doing this in excel?

Surely there's a simply way of just calculating the p-value of the
difference between the two surveys?

$$Excel-Macros$$ MS Excel help needed for newbie

2010-10-07 Thread Dean Brown
I have several questions so if it's ok with you I'll ask then one at a
time (that'll give me time to digest any answers).

Ok, here's problem 1.

I want the person using the spreadsheet to input a value into cell A1.
The value that is input is going to be either A,B,C,D or E. The values
of cells A2 and A3 will vary depending on what is input into A1.

Basically (and in simple terms) what I want the formula to work out is
this:

If A1=A then A2=10 and A3=20
If A1=B then A2=30 and A3=40
If A1=C then A2=50 and A3=60
If A1=D then A2=70 and A3=80
If A1=E then A2=90 and A3=100

I hope this makes sense. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Regards.

Dean.

$$Excel-Macros$$ MS Excel VBA cut and paste from multiple workbooks into one central Output worksheet.

2010-09-27 Thread bbcdancer123
So far I have created the first part of the macro which validates in
the'MASTER' worksheet the Filename (in 'Column A') and worksheet (in
'Column B') Validity parameters with a 'Yes' and 'No' text in ('Column
C').

Worksheet: MASTER
FilenameworksheetValidity
--
c:\Test\CBA.xls Sheet1No
c:\Test\CBA1.xlsSheet2 Yes
c:\Test\CBA2.xlsSheet3 Yes

In columns D to G which extends left of the 'MASTER' worksheet, I have
the'copy' and 'paste' parameters required for the second part of the
macro.

Worksheet: MASTER extended to Columns D to G.

Column1 Column2 RowRecords

A C 20 5
A C 20 5
A B 20 1

In addition, I also have a final worksheet called 'OUTPUT' which will
holds the copy and pasted data from another workbook.

Worksheet: OUTPUT (Currently Empty)

Filename Column1 Column2

>From the 'Master' worksheet the second record is validated with a
'Yes' text.

What I need is the second part of the macro to:

1) open the workbook 'c:\Test\CBA1.xls' go to 'Sheet2' copy the
data incells A20:A24 (see Below)

Row20 A
Row21 A

Row24 A

   2) and paste it into the 'OUTPUT' worksheet in Column 1.

  3) Copy the data in 'Sheet2' cells C20:C24 (see below) and paste it
into the OUTPUT worksheet in column2.

   4) Assign the five records as 'c:\Test\CBA1.xls' in Column called

c:\Test\CBA1.xls A C
c:\Test\CBA1.xls A C
c:\Test\CBA1.xls A C

   5) From the 'Master' worksheet the third record is validated with a
'Yes'.
Repeat point 1 to 4 again but this time with different copy and paste
parameters.

  Column A

Row20 B

Column B

Row20B

The records from point 5 should be added to the existing OUTPUT
table.

Worksheet: OUTPUT

RE: $$Excel-Macros$$ MS Excel 2003: odd sheet protection/cell locking behavior

2010-03-17 Thread Dave Bonallack

Sorry, I'm stumped. If the cell's locked and the sheet's protected, that should
be that. Unless someone has figured out your sheet-protect password, and is
just toying with you...

If it's repeatable, post a copy of the workbook.

Regards - Dave.

Can you send me the file?
I can open it in excel2007 and see if it works the same way.
It definitely sounds suspicious.
It would be nice to determine if it is file-related
or Excel-version related...

I don't think my question was clear.  I understand how to lock or
unlock cells.  The problem I'm having isn't with this.  What I'm
seeing is that when the Worksheet Protection is on, and a cell is
Locked, that users are able to enter data into the cell anyway.

Has anyone seen this before or have any idea why this would be
happening.  There  is no VBA in this workbook, so there's nothing
behind the scenes happening to turn off sheet protection.

2010-03-16 Thread Dave Bonallack

Hi,

Each cell has to be locked for protection to have any effect.

Select one of the cells that is disobediently accepting data

Format, Cells, Protection tab, click 'Locked'

Do this for each cell you want to lock, or you can select lots of cells in the
ordinary way, or with the Ctrl key, and just do the 'Locked' thing once.

Regards - Dave.

$$Excel-Macros$$ MS Excel 2003: odd sheet protection/cell locking behavior

2010-03-16 Thread Jeff
Hi all,

I've got an Excel spreadsheet that is used for collecting some data
from end users and each tab uses Sheet Protection with a password,
with users able to select locked & unlocked cells. We also have a mix
of locked & unlocked cells on each tab. There's also no VBA in this
workbook.

On one tab, there are several locked cells which can take data entry.
Does anyone have any idea why this would be the case? I always
thought that if Sheet Protection was on, Excel prevented any entry
into a locked cell.
