RE: Synchronizing Outlook for Offline use...

2002-07-26 Thread Jon Butler (Mailing Lists)

In my (granted, limited) experience I have seen the cause of this to be
whatever AV is running on the Exchange Server. If an item is being
synchronized that hasn't been flagged as "scanned" by the antivirus software
on the server, it will try to scan it before allowing it to be synchronized
... and on large synch operations, this'll time out the client and cause
these errors. We've alleviated the problem with NAVMSE by enabling the
background scanning thread ... otherwise it will continue to mark everything
as unscanned everytime the defs are updated -- daily!

Now I understand that OL has problems with OST's over 2Gb, etc etc so I've
tried to set a filter on his Inbox and some of the larger folders to limit
the number of items that are synched... The filters didn't seem to help and
most folders are still exhibiting the problem... Many of the folders that
aren't synching aren't really all that big (<10Mb)... Out of say, 250
items, only 40 of them will synch...

I've also tried to set the user's mail up on a WinXP Pro box with OL2002 and
tried to synch that, but end up with the same results

Does Outlook have a set amount of time it waits for an item or folder to
synch before giving up and going onto the next folder? If so, is there a
way to increase this time... Can anyone give me some other pointers or
resources to look at why OL won't synch (not that it won't synch at all, but
won't synch completely)? Is the situation with synching large offline
folders any better under Exch. 2000?

Thanks in advance for any pointers.

In the DCOMCNFG protocol tab there is no UDP/IP protocol there is only connection

I rebooted the server and I am getting more DCOM errors.

RE: 5.5 > 2000 Mailboxes

You can easily export the Exch 5.5 directory to a CSV file, modify the
Primary Windows NT Account value, and import it back to reduce the chance of
skipping a mailbox

Subject: 5.5 > 2000 Mailboxes

Hi all,

I'm new in here, please be gentle...

I'm running a Win5.5 server in a WinNT domain. We have migrated the users
to a new Win2K domain (done that manually) and are now planning to migrate
to Exch 2k. There is a 2-way trust between the NT and the 2K domain.

My main problem is the assignments of mailboxes. In 5.5 you could simply
click 'Primary NT Account' and choose which NT account you want to associate
the mailbox with.

>From what I could gather, in Win2k you must make sure that the Primary NT
account in 5.5 is set to the respective username in Win2K, before you run
ADC. Failure to do so will create a new Win2K disabled user account with
the mailbox attached to it.

This is where my question lies. If, for example, I skip 1 or 2 mailboxes
and forget to change their primary NT account to the Win2K user, and run
ADC, and the little prick will create disabled user accounts in 2K and
assign the mailboxes to them. HOW can I 'reassign' the mailbox to the
REAL Win2K user account?

I'm ready to purchase any admin tools since System Manager, to say the
least, sucks.

Synchronizing Outlook for Offline use...

2002-07-26 Thread Joe Pochedley

I know this subject has come up time and time again, but I've STFW, RTFM and
perused the FAQ and can't come up with an answer...

I have a user with a fairly large mailbox (>2Gb) and many folders under his

15 words has nothing to do with Haiku.

you don't even need to do that. just apply the tweak to a workstation,
create a MAPI profile for her mailbox on that workstation, go to the
folder from whence she deleted the items this morning, and recover them.
if they are not there, then she must have deleted them from the

test by deleting another message and recovering. test on another

Exchange 2000 and resource calendaring

2002-07-26 Thread Garen

need to setup some conference rooms and projectors as resources with
outlook
2000/xp and exchange 2000

i have done this with exchange 5.5 where you can just create a mailbox and
assign it to the same user. but in 2000 you need to have a unique account
per box. is there a way around this?

do you need to create a seperate user account per resource? or can you use
contacts? please explain

If we have to use user accounts. how to prevent them from being able to
log
onto the network?

thanks!

CDO logon failure

2002-07-26 Thread joseph white

I am trying to create a simple Web page for e-mailing. Eventually I will
add more advanced features but for now I am trying to learn how to create
CDO objects in ASP pages. I am using Ed Beck’s article "Getting Started
with ASP Messaging" and I am using the code he provided. I am
implementing the authentication with Basic Authentication. I followed the
instructions and flow charts from the article to implement this logon
type. However, I receive the error message "Error: Get Inbox:
-2147221231: The information store could not be opened. [MAPI 1.0 -
[MAPI_E_LOGON_FAILED (80040111)]] GetAMSession returned nothing!". It
seems to me I am not able to log in to the mailbox at all.

Since I am afraid I am not able to log in at all, I tried the code listed
below to make sure CDO is installed correctly.
-
' Initialize error handling
On Error Resume Next

' Ask for mailbox alias
'strAlias =InputBox("Please enter the Exchange alias:", " CDO 1.21
'Login")'
strAlias = "myID"
response.write "Should have asked for Alias Name " & strAlias & "."
If Trim(strAlias) <> "" Then

' Build dynamic profile
strProfileInfo =3D "myServer" & Chr(10) & Trim(strAlias)

' Create CDO 1.21 session
Err.Clear
Set objSession =3D CreateObject("MAPI.Session")

' Check for error
If Err.Number <> 0 Then
MsgBox "Error. CDO 1.x not installed. Errorcode: " _
& Chr(13) & Err.Number & Chr(13) & Err.Description
Else

  ' Logon
  Err.Clear
  objSession.Logon "", "", False, True, 0, True, strProfileInfo
If Err.Number =3D 0 Then
  MsgBox "CDO 1.x is installed. Version: " & objSession.Version
Err.Clear
Set objInbox =3D objSession.Inbox
If Err.Number =3D 0 Then
MsgBox "Successfully logged on to mailbox: " _
& objSession.CurrentUser
Else
MsgBox "Could not logon to mailbox. Errorcode: " _
& Chr(13) & Err.Number & Chr(13) & Err.Description
End If
Else
MsgBox "Could not logon to mailbox. Errorcode: " _
& Chr(13) & Err.Number & Chr(13) & Err.Description

End If

' Logoff
objSession.Logoff
End If
 End If

 ' Tidy up
 Set objSession =3D Nothing
 Set objInbox =3D Nothing
--
To test this new code I added a new Virtual Directory to IIS and followed
instructions for "Creating your own Anonymous User" listed in Ed Beck’s
article. This code returns "Should have asked for Alias Name myID. CDO
1.x is installed. Version: 1.21Could not logon to mailbox. Errorcode:
-2147221219 The attempt to log on to the Microsoft Exchange Server
computer has failed. [Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store -
[MAPI_E_FAILONEPROVIDER(8004011D)]]."

The IIS server is running on a Windows 2000 Server and Exchange Server 5.5
is running on a different Windows 2000 server. The IIS server has Outlook
XP installed with the Outlook CDO feature set up. To test the mailbox
and ID’s I’m using I entered the ID’s, mailbox, and passwords I’m using in
my CDO setup at the OWA page and it logs on correctly from there. The
client I am testing from and both servers log in to the same NT 4.0
Domain. Ed Beck’s instructions cover NT4.0, so I’m afraid my actions on
the Windows 2000 server are off.

Any ideas??

Here is the link to Ed Beck’s article.
