RBDL is inherently unreliable when it comes to removing addresses from lists
(see archives for a bunch of my posts on using the product .. Somewhere in
late 1999 I think). When I used it, I ran a script to remove all members
from the list first, immediately followed by running RBDL to rebuild the DL.
Used it each night around 2AM and there was a window of 20 minutes or so
where the DLs were a bit in flux, hence the 2AM run time. AFAIK that script
is still running at the company where I installed it and building the DLs
nightly.

I don't have a knowledge of that specific setting, but if it
exists, I doubt that it is a registry setting, but rather an Active
Directory setting since E2K uses AD groups for mail distribution. Wish
I could give you a more specific answer, but maybe it will help just
pointing you in the direction of AD.

I'm aware of the functionality, but have not implemented it (and don't plan
to). I much prefer the use of redemption, since it can get around all of the
possible prompts AFAIK and isn't limited to just the XP client. The server
based forms work with Exchange (all versions) and OpenMail I believe.

I believe that OoO responses are an 'All or Nothing' proposition. I don't think you
can define some folks to be able to send them and others to *not* be able to send
them. In my opinion, OoO responses are bad form as it is and should *never* be sent

RE: Free/Busy Problems

2003-02-28 Thread Andrey Fyodorov
something is screwed up about the Free/Busy system folder...

When you are moving the users to Exchange 2000, are they staying in the same Admin
group? or are they going to a new Admin group that you may have created?

If they are going to the new Admin group, their Legacy Exchange DN is still referring
to the old Admin group (5.5 Site) and that's where their Outlook tries to go in order
to get the Free/Busy info - Outlook tries to find the old free/busy system folder.

Similar stuff happened to me when I moved all users from one E2K server to another E2K
server, and the servers were in different Admin groups. I then whacked the old server
and started getting the same Free/Busy complaints/error that you are getting.

In my case, there was a floating orphan of the old server's free/busy system folder,
so I homed it on the new server and it seemed to have helped.

You may want to see if you could replicate your old free/busy system folder to the new
server.

Subject: Free/Busy Problems

Hi All,

I'm hoping somebody can point me in the right direction...

We have begun migrating mailboxes from Ex5.5 to E2K using NetIQ. The
organisations are different and mutilple admin groups exist in E2K.

We have now moved 10 mailboxes and find that the free/busy is
unavailable for all but one (my own as it happens). Ie, if anyone
creates a meeting and looks at the schedule, the schedule is unavailable
for every included mailbox, except their own and mine.

The aim with the admin groups was to have one per region plus a
backbone. Looking at Exchange Advanced tab of users I found that my
account is in Oceania admin group but almost everyone else is in
backbone. It appears the ADC has put most accounts in the Backbone
Admin group - not sure why mine was different. All migrated mailboxes
are placed on the same server in the Oceanic group so I would have
expected them all to be in Oceania group.

I've checked the legacyExchangeDN attribute (article 286783) and there's
no problem regarding uppercase CN's etc, but the Admin group are
generally listed as Backbone.
I tried editing this but that broke access to the mailbox. Also, I
found another account which IS in the Oceania admin group and that
cannot be seen in free/busy either.

On the client side, the users get 'cannot update free/busy schedule'
when exiting outlook which really explains why there is no data
available I guess.
The OC Admin group has a Schedule+ public folder on our server, but the
backbone Schedule+ is on a server overseas. Don't know if this makes
any difference however.

What would be nice at least is a method of finding out exactly WHAT
Outlook is attempting to write too when it gives that error - ie, what
server, which folder or whatever. At least then I could see what is
different in my account compared to the others and then search a way to
make them the same.

BTW we're running Exchange 2000 SP3 on Windows 2000 SP2 - both Native
mode. Client is WinXP SP1 and OL2002 (10.4219.4219 - SP2. We migrated
from Ex 5.5 SP4, NT4 SP5 with clients of NT4 SP5 and OL98.

Any help, suggestions etc.

Oh, incidentally, created a fresh user and mailbox (ie not migrated)
gives the same issue which I'm assuming rules out NetIQ and points to
either a server issue (but I can't think what else to check) or client
side (but I have someone use my machine to eliminate that).

Cheers

You might try turning it on for everybody, then disabling it for the
groups
you don't want to have it using distribution groups. Just a thought.

RE: Option to send OoO to the internet

2003-02-28 Thread Ben Schorr
You might try turning it on for everybody, then disabling it for the groups
you don't want to have it using distribution groups. Just a thought.

RE: Send on behalf of

2003-02-28 Thread Durkee, Peter
I'd never noticed before that making someone a delegate puts their name in the
Exchange Admin delivery options screen. However, if that's how it gives the delegate
send on behalf of rights, then maybe it's subject to the standard Exchange Admin two
hour delay.

Option to send OoO to the internet

2003-02-28 Thread Pillai, Raj

Exchange 2000 Enterprise with SP3)

Hi guys,
I am trying to enable the Out..office option to the internet for certain
Distribution groups in our org. ( not my choice, directive from the
directors).
I do not want to enable this for everyone so I am not checking the "
Allow out of office responses" in Global Settings.

But it does not seem to be working if you just enable OOO using exchange
Advanced tab for distribution groups. If I turn on the global setting,
it works for everyone, but that is not desirable.

Any comments or ideas?

Thanks

Raj

That's what I'd do - get the newest technology that your systems can
handle. I assume you already have Exchange 5.5 -- Get Office XP, which
comes with OL 2002.

If you're really three years away from AD then Exchange 5.5+SP4+various
patches is the only choice. Exchange 2000 and beyond *require* AD.

Outlook XP will still talk to Exchange 5.5.

Good afternoon.

Yes the time has come and management has decided that they want to get off
of Outlook 98.
What would be the best Outlook/Exchange to go to now? We are probably 3

We have windows 2000 available. Please give me wisdom...

Re: Send on behalf of

2003-02-28 Thread Chris Scharff
The phrasing of the question and terms used based on the question as asked
are ambiguous. Delegate permissions is sufficient for 'send on behalf of'

RE: Free/Busy Problems

2003-02-28 Thread Ed Crowley
Outlook populates free/busy data into a shared public folder.
Therefore, users won't have any free/busy data until they've logged into
their mailboxes using Outlook (or OWA). Search TechNet with the exact
wording of the message you're getting, because there are very well may
be things you have to do to fix the problem.

I tried editing this but that broke access
to the mailbox. Also, I found another account which IS in the Oceania
admin group and that cannot be seen in free/busy either.

On the client side, the users get 'cannot update free/busy schedule'
when exiting outlook which really explains why there is no data
available I guess. The OC Admin group has a Schedule+ public folder on
our server, but the backbone Schedule+ is on a server overseas. Don't
know if this makes any difference however.

Cheers

RE: Failed delivery

2003-02-28 Thread David Lefebvre
We've also had problems with incoming messages from mailing lists generated
by Mailman etc. The logs of the sending server show them being delivered to
our ES 5.5 server, and message tracking indicates that they have been
delivered to the correct mailboxes. They then appear in some mailboxes
correctly, but not in others. I've tried using the Exchange Client to search
for the message with no result.

We've also had situations where a message (either from within or outside our
organisation) is sent to multiple outside mailing lists on multiple outside
servers. If one of our users is on more than one of these lists then they
receive only one copy of the message - it's as if some form of
de-duplication is taking place somewhere.

By the way, this latter behaviour also seems to occur in other related
organisations who are on the same mailing lists. They all use ES (various
versions) as far as I am aware.

Subject: Removing an Exchange 2000 server

I am in the process of removing an Exchange 2000 server from my site.
This server was used to during a "swing method" upgrade to temporarily
hold users while we upgraded the production servers to 2000. It hasn't
had a user's mailbox on it for several weeks and currently only has 3
mailboxes that all appear to be system mailboxes: SMTP, System
Attendant, and System Mailbox. No public folders are homed on this
server.

I am following Q307917 to remove this server and have performed steps 1
through 7 over the past few days to ensure replication has had time to
complete each step. When I go to perform the uninstall I get a message
to the effect that there are still mailboxes stored on the server and I
am unable to perform the uninstall.

Is there a way around this or have I missed something?

Should I simply remove the server from the site via System Manager and
manually uninstall Exchange?

Which is the better way?

Thanks for any input.

programm. read the PF Permission Roles ?

Is there any way to read programmatically the permissions set on public
folders on EX5.5/NT4 ? Not the client permissions, those set on the
Permissions page from exchange administrator.
Directory export doesn't seem to have any working field for that info (at
least I tried every field offered by headers.exe and didn't get that info).
CDO doesn't seem to have relevant fields. Possibly ADSI ?
Thanks

2003-02-28 Thread Chris Scharff
Install and SSL certificate.
Map port 443 on the external firewall interface to the internal IP address
of the intranet server.
Assign a DNS name to the external IP address if one doesn't already exist
for it.
Connect to https://dns_name/exchange

Internal network with all the servers including

the middle and the
internet to the right.

Thanks a million.

Problem Accessing OMA in Exchange 2003 Beta 2

2003-02-28 Thread Jason Kane
Hi,

I don't know if anyone else is getting this issue, but any pointers to
a resolution would be gratefully received.

Environment:
Single Windows 2003 RC2 Server
Exchange 2003 Beta 2
Sony Ericsson T68i Mobile phone
IE6 SP1

OWA works fine, and I can access OMA via IE6 no problem (Although I
get the warning about unsupported device...)

When I try to access OMA via my phone it prompts for username and
password and then just returns an HTTP Status error of 400

Any idea what could be causing the status error to occur, or any
thoughts of work arounds?

TIA
Jason

RE: Group Wise 6.0

Good for you. You go, girl!

When you post at 10PM Eastern, you may not get a response right away. Give
it more than 50 minutes before getting frustrated and repeating your post.

Having said that, there are a few resources available at
http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/default.asp that may help in your
migration. Searching for the term 'groupwise' on that site yields several
hits, the most prominent of which is
http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/techinfo/interop/migtoolscompare.asp
(download links at the top). Most of the links are for GW5.5, though.
