RE: SpamBelt

2003-05-31 Thread Erik Sojka
Not quite.
I'm merely pointing out the difference here ;)

If Tom's talking about the same message I got today, it was targeted
to TechEd attendees, and not to any and every @$$hole who has ever
browsed Sunbelt's website (i.e. their normal targeted audience).

Of course, Sunbelt's messages in this case can still be construed as
being vaguely requested (I get a boatload of junk from MEC/TechEd
vendors) - it is assumed that all MEC/TechEd vendors get the list of
attendees.

The question remains why Sunbelt chose this particular message to look
extremely spammy (See Tom's note re: roving.com and juno).

Not only that, but since lots of us asked to be on the mailing

us that kind of
stuff.

RE: Exchange for macs

2003-05-31 Thread Couch, Nate
You don't need to do anything on the Exchange server.

For the Macintoshes themselves all you need is a hosts file with entries for
the Exchange server(s) and the DNS servers since Macs don't use WINS.

Then on the client side make sure you are not using Appletalk since that is
a chatty service. Set them up for strictly TCPIP.

In your TCPIP control panel make sure they have the DNS servers in their
search list and that should be it.

Outlook - Pop3 - Meeting Request problems

2003-05-31 Thread Diane Stout
Hello everyone,

We're experiencing a problem with a remote PC and the ability to

circuits? Do you have separate network connections to different switches?
Fix those before you start talking about clusters.

Would I be in a whole world of hurt if I were to remove an Exchange server,
that I want to retire, from Exchange System Manager without performing an
uninstall of exchange from the server. I want to just blow the server away
anyway as I have full online and offline backups. I have move all the
mailboxes and Public folders to the new server

Thanks!

Have you created instances on those public folder servers?

Hi, to combat a problem I have been having, I have recreated the
configuration within Exchange, and used different routing groups for
different servers to accomplish the same setup as I had previously.

However, since putting the different servers in different routing groups,
public folders are no longer working. The public folders work at head
office where I am, but at remote sites where servers are in a different
routing group, the public folders cannot be accessed and they say that they
probably haven't been replicated.

I've been asked to come up with a script that will allow others (on our
general networking team) to gracefully shut down one of our Exchange
servers. I'm figuring that a straightforward series of NET STOP commands
should take care of it, but am concerned about the time it'll take to shut
down the IS (for instance, if net stop times out and gives up before a large
IS finishes shutting down). Do any of you all have any pointers or caveats?
Is there any way in a simple batch script to check to see if a service has
finished shutting down?

Thanks,
Aaron

I know this is probably a dumb question. In fact, I KNOW this is a dumb
question for a Friday.

I've set up a test nt4, 5.5 environment by doing a couple of restores (both
IS and DS) from 2 sites in our live environment. (Several reasons for this
incl. recovering a few public folders, testing our DR procedures, and
preparing for a 2K upgrade)

Our live environment is actually 5 sites, however I was wondering if it is
possible to somehow remove the 3 sites from the Directory that I don't
intend to restore.

I have tried removing the connectors (x400 and DRC) from the gateway server,
but there is no server in the site to contact to delete.

I'm thinking I need to somehow remove these 3 orphan sites, and perhaps
running admin in raw state, but this is just Friday theorising.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks
Leeann
