RE: Directory Export - SMTP address

If the SMTP address is the default address for the mailbox, then you could
use LDIFDE or CSVDE from a Windows 2000 box and export the LDAP mail
attribute.

How do you export the SMTP address without the entire DN using admin.exe to
export to a .csv file?

RE: Store.exe at 99-100% CPU on 5.5 SP4

Are you using Veritas NetBackup version 4.5?

There is a known problem with the installation of Version 4.5 replacing the
MS runtime DLLs with incompatible verions.

OK, I just had to restart my exchange box because of a 100% store.exe. The
memory was ~800Meg, but it's a 1Gig machine doing nothing else but exchange.

I don't see anything in the event log indicating an error (at least it
applied the 4 log files, thank god for logging G).

I haven't found any on-topic KB articles. I see one on post-sp4 store.exe
fixes (282533) but none of the specific fixes seem on topic.

Any suggestions on where to begin the search for the problem?

Suck the file into Excel, highlight the column, then select Format - Cells

Choose Custom, then specify the template as 000, Excel should put the
leading zeroes back in for you.

Bingo!

So...now I have a different question. Can I grep the file and have it spit
out the records for me, where the Employee-Number field has anything other
than 7 digits in it? I.E., if it has =6 digits or 8= digits, it pipes
that record to an error file?

Did you open the csv file with notepad _after_ you'd opened it with excel?
If so, excel probably stripped (not just suppressed) the leading zeroes, so
that's why they weren't there in notepad. Try re-exporting and opening with
notepad first.

Yes, Excel has a tendency to do that to leading 0's. Open it with notepad or
your favorite text editor/viewer - something that just reads the raw
datastream without trying to interpret it.

  Exchange 5.5, SP4 + hotfixes.

When doing a directory export, we have a field titled
  Employee-Number
(not
sure if this is a standard field or a custom one). This field is
bounced
against the HR database to ensure no dupes and to update location
data. Some people's location data is not updating. Since this field
  is
required
for this function, I exported the data to a .csv file and was
  checking
it.
However, what I noticed is that I have anywhere from 3-digit numbers
to 7-digit numbers, because the export is dropping the leading
zeroes. Is there any way to force the export to export all 7
  digits, even if they
are
  leading zeroes?

  Thanks,

If you mess around with Disk Caching setting for your array controller and
fake a power failure, or turn on NT disk compression on your database drive,
you should see the dreaded -1018 error on your next backup.

Hmmm ... Had not run across that yet. And here I thought I'd been checking
out all the resources from the list. :-(

Cool stuff in there and in the directory above it:
http://www.microsoft.com/Exchange/techinfo/administration/55/

It maybe in there [only took a quick peek], but what I want to do is find
ways to realistically break a lab machine that would mimic real-life
problems that require the use of the tools in the whitepages and techniques.

Thanks to everyone and MSKB[1], I now have backups that I KNOW are good.

Next step now, is to learn how to fix Exchange. I know there are a few
million ways to break Exchange, but what would be the best for learning the
repair tools in a lab environment?

The hardware stuff 'should' be straight-forward. Break it - ID it - Repair/
Replace/ Restore - Reboot. The software and DB corruption would need to be
more careful to avoid getting into a 'Restore is only option' situation.

Any Ideas?

Thanks
John

I have just installed Antigen 6.2 on my Exchange 5.5 Sp4 machine. I can
successfully use the update now button to retrieve signature updates.
However it doesn't work using the scheduling feature to do this
