This could well be a dumb question but, we've been asked to find out how
many e-mails are sent in a single day. Now we could check at the
firewall/mail gateway but that'd only get outbound/inbound mail. Perfmon
might give a clue (if we could stand that performance hit) and we can
monitor disk growth, but does anybody know a simple way to assess how many
emails per day are sent both internally and externally. Thanks.

Re: redhat 8 and sendmail forums

2003-02-03 Thread mike dilworth
just download the source and read _ALL_ the READMEs .. make sure to do this
in all the sub-dirs (but the top level README tells you where to look and
what to read). The src distribution is more current than the bat and covers
other newer features (e.g. milter) .. however.. the bat book is useful for
debugging.. but this starts to get too involved for a newbie.

Re: Stats for Email

2002-10-29 Thread mike dilworth
try e-nspect (www.e-nspect.co.uk) which doesnt use the low data content
exchange log files, so you can also get information about your attachments
too..

Subject: Stats for Email

This may be a simple question, but I was asked by my manager to get him some
stats on how much email we get and send each day.
We are running Exchange 2000 SP2.
Other then manually looking through the logs, is there a tool that can read
the logs and spit out the information I need

Re: advice for archiving email into a DB from a gateway server

2002-10-11 Thread mike dilworth

e-nspect (www.e-nspect.com) puts emails into an SQL database. Not all the
actual data though, for example, attachments are stored only as name, mime
type, file extension, and size. However, I am sure they would do a custom
version for you.

RE: Mailbox monitoring

2002-09-17 Thread Mike Dilworth

PerlMX ??? ok for your desktop and small setups I guess, but if you are
serious about performance etc. then you need to use Sendmail's in-built (if
you build it to use this feature that is) MILTER (if you think of smtp event
sinks in Exchange 2000 then its _sort_ of the same thing) and then the
MILTER filter has to be written in c . anything else is a poor second. Of
course this is all free, but you have to know what you are doing ..and it
isnt related to Exchange at all so its off topic!
more on topic for this sort of stuff is www.e-nspect.co.uk which doesnt use
the Exchange server log files to generate reports so it can grab more data
about attachments etc. unlike Promodag..

Did the sink get regsitered correctly? is it enabled? an easy way to chec
this is by using the event sink admin utility found on the e-nspect web
site.
