Encrypted Emails - XP?

2001-12-12 Thread Hansen, Eric

Hi

I had a Dev group get XP OS and Outlook XP on their systems and they seem to
have lost the ability to send encrypted emails through the KMserver on our
exchange site(not sending external).

Anyone running XP? Any ideas?

I'm not entirely convinced that it's a Outlook problem, I had to disable a
setting in the local security policy just to get the XP machines on the nt4
domain.

The only associated event is Event ID 2 :crypt "" Successful auto update
retrieval of third-party root list cab from:

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.";

When I click on the link it sends something to MS (oh joy) and comes back
with a cab file that has a authroot.stl in it. I haven't the slightest clue
what to do with this file.

Were they already enrolled in KMS, and they got new computers? If so,
you'll need to run each of them through the advanced security recovery
process. It's very simple, look in the KMS docs for intstructions.

RE: Encrypted Emails - XP?

2001-12-12 Thread Hansen, Eric

No, I reinstalled KMS, deleted the old KMS database per the installer, and
reenrolled the clients.

Ive done this before with exchange clients and outlook clients and have
never had any problems, I blame XP.

RE: Encrypted Emails - XP?

2001-12-12 Thread Hansen, Eric

Error reads before sending

"Microsoft Outlook had problems encrypting this message because the
following recipients had missing or invalid certificates, or conflicting or
unsupported encryption capabilities."

Then it gives me the option to send unencrypted or cancel, and it logs the
event id 2.(see below)

Signing and encryption certificates issued by the exchange server for
internal use only. No real world authority. Cast64 for encrypting, not
sure what its using for signatures.

Signing and encryption certificates issued by the exchange server for
internal use only. No real world authority. Cast64 for encrypting, not
sure what its using for signatures.

RE: Encrypted Emails - XP? |more

2001-12-12 Thread Hansen, Eric

I was just poking around, but in the control panel under the security policy
stuff for local policies there are a few items that reference LDAP. For
example

Domain Controller: LDAP server signing requirements >> not defined
Network Security: LDAP client signing requirements >> negotiate signing

If anyone knows what these are I would like to know.

Just brainstorming.

RE: Encrypted Emails - XP? |more (PGP)

2001-12-14 Thread David Florea

Did you upgrade to XP or was it a fresh install? Seems like I read
somewhere about probs with PGP and XP but I don't see that I saved the
source for that. If PGP lived thru an upgrade, I'd do an
uninstall/reinstall and see if it even installs correctly. You might try
some of the other PGP functions and see if it's running properly or not --
i.e., PGPdisk, wipe, etc. I'm using 6.0.2 on W2K, no probems at all.
