RE: Moving 45 users between sites
Watch all sorts of hell break out after doing it too... Been there, done that, got the T-Shirt, and I'm still finding issues a YEAR after migrating people with that option on. Far better is to migrate the rules to a PST from the client side, then reimport them following migration. -- Roger D. We have never had a single issue with using this option selected! Well I suppose it will be one of those strange Exchange sort of things, what works for one, does not work for another. Hence, confirming what everybody knows, test it first, if it works use it, if it fails try something else. Interested to find out why the Outlook client does export this information correctly but according to you it fails with Exmerge? RE: Moving 45 users between sites
The error I see most often is blown links to delegates. The linkage is stored internally as a DN (/o=Org/ou=Site/cn=Recipients/cn=DirName), and is copied verbatim. Changes to the target are not automatically reflected in these links, unless you carry over proxy addresses for those users. In our scenario at the time, we decided not to carry those over, which is part of the issue. Other rule types probably weren't problems, but anything referencing a directory object tanked pretty hard. Roger -- Roger D. RE: Moving 45 users between sites
Forgive if I am wrong but actually moving the rules is not an issue for the actual mailbox being moved but is actually affects users that have granted access to a users who's mailbox is being moved. Therefore I suppose our answer to the person in question (see somewhere below) would be yes you can move rules etc but in order to ensure the minimum of problems he/she should: 1. Inform all users to remove delegate access rights for any of the users that are about to be moved. 2. After the move has been completed send an email to his/her users stating that the users can now be granted delegate access again. RE: Moving 45 users between sites
Additional point (after offline chat with Roger) is that we missed at least one other possible issue: If somebody has a rule set to forward to a user that is moving these should be deleted and recreated after the move has taken place.
