RE: Transaction Logs
Phil, I just replied to Andy with a directory listing. Does that look similar to what you were seeing? Thanks, Jim -Original Message- I've seen this once before after switching from circular logging. What I noticed was a discontiguous range of log file "numbers". After carefully examining the log file date / timestamps I deleted the oldest (leaving at least 2 days worth as we do daily full backups) and rebooted the server (stopping and restarting the IS service would probably have sufficed). The next morning the extraneous log files were gone, and there have been no problems since. RE: Transaction logs..
Usman, This should be a simple calculation. Estimate the size required for a reasonably busy day, to allow for backup failures multiply by the number of days you can afford to miss. If you don't backup at weekends add in the weekend traffic. Given that your logs should ideally be in a physically separate spindle, round up to the next multiple of available drive size. Chances are that a single 9GB drive will be sufficient (its difficult to find anything smaller these days). regards, Richard Dann -Original Message- From: Usman Din [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 13 August 2001 15:51 To: Exchange Discussions Subject: Transaction logs.. Is there a standard metric/percentage of what size the tranaction log drive should be? for example if your storage group contains 5 databases each with a 32 gb capacity, how large should you transaction log drive be?
