What version of server?  Were the e-mail addresses removed?

Exchange 2k, sp1 - I didn't remove any e-mail addresses, I simply disabled
the account through active directory and now all mail to the account
bounces.

um... thats because Exchange2K uses the Active Directory for its DS, rather
than its own (like Exchange 5.5 does).

Yes.  I am running to the same problem.  And that is exactly what I did
as a work around.  Use some sort of password generators to generate a
random password.
