RE: Outlook not responding

2001-11-08 Thread Marty Richards

Try setting some to fixed IP's and fixed DNS/WINS details on some of the
affected workstations. Sounds like a possible dhcp/portfast switch problem
if you can reboot and get it working.

There's a reghack re: how it connects. Normally should be tcpip.
Can't

Also, I think resolution is supposed to be via WINS.

User boots PC up in the morning, opens Outlook and it sits on the
splash
screen. These are Win98SE OS, MS logins to a NT4 domain. It can sit there
all day (but they call us first) before actually opening the app. Once a
technician arrives and reboots the PC, Outlook will open. Viewing the
tasks that are running at first bootup, you see "MS Outlook not
responding." There's no consistency regarding location. We've tested and
re-run wiring; they are CAT5 to a 100M hub running fiber to a 100M switch
to an Exchange5.5 server.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Folks,

Sorry for the cross-list postings, but I thought this would be cool info for
you all. For anyone who is planning on taking select Windows 2000 Exams
before Dec. 31, Sylvan Prometric is offereing 25% off many of the exams. I've
included the link where I found this info. Hopefully this will be of some

Third party tool for public folder alerts

2001-11-08 Thread Bell, Stephen

Does anyone know of a third party add-on to Exchange 5.5 (or Exchange 2000)
that will send reminders when using a public folder?

The exact sequence would be something like this.

Users input appointments into a public folder calendar.

Then (on a pre-determined schedule) Exchange would send a reminder when this
is getting near to selected individuals?

Of course when the appt. was created the timing and individuals would have
to be given...

The would allow centralized appt calendars, but still send out notifications
to selected folks...

Thanks!

Moving Mailboxes between 5.5 servers

2001-11-08 Thread Lake, Mary Elizabeth

We are upgrading the hardware on our Exchange server, and will probably go
the route of two Exchange servers online in the same site, move mailboxes
one workgroup at a time and then take the old server offline. In my
testing, however, I have run across something puzzling, which I cannot seem
to run down in Technet or on the MS website. (Perhaps I'm just not asking
the right question).

When I move a mailbox from one server to another, and then compare the
resources, I get some pretty startling differences in numbers (although not
in mailbox size) - yet, I cannot seem to find anything actually missing...

For example:

OLD SERVER:
Total K: 36,380
Total No. of Items: 3,254
Total No. of Associated Items: 73

NEW SERVER:
Total K: 36,280
Total No. of Items: 571
Total No. of Associated Items: 21

What am I losing? I can't seem to find anything obvious? Does anyone know,
or can you point me in the right direction to figure it out?

Thanks,
Mary Elizabeth

whenever I get a format I don't recognise, or an attachment that's somehow
gotten it's name corrupted in the post, I find notepad can often pull enough
out of it to at least give an inkling as to what's inside...

depends vastly on what's in it... a .dat can be pretty much anything
from a
windows system file to a videoCD and about 200 things in between...do
you
have any idea what the content of the file is?
