I have a user who is stating that sometimes old deleted mail reappears in
her inbox. Sometimes messages that are months and months old.

She uses Outlook XP but I believe this happened prior to Outlook XP when
we were using Outlook 98. The exchange 5.5 server is patched to SP6a and
Exchange SP4.

Any idea what could be causing this? I haven't tried giving her a new
mailbox but I might resort to that.

All,

I know I sent this out during the time when a lot of people were not
looking, so I thought I'd try again, and cross-post to the NT Sysadmin
list as well, since I haven't seen any responses.

This is really frustrating me, because I'm pretty darn sure my setup
should work, and I just can't figure out why some domains don't like my
new relay box.

If anyone needs more info, I'd certainly be willing to provide it.

-Original Message-

I have a little problem I'm trying to troubleshoot, and am having
difficulty finding info on it.

I have set up IIS5 on a Win2kPro (SP2, fully patched) box that's
destined to sit in my DMZ, and act as a relay box for our Exchange
server.

I'm currently testing it before deploying it, and have run into problems
getting it to talk with several domains, including msn.com and
attbi.com. Other domains have no problems. It's not a reverse DNS lookup
issue, since switching my outbound SMTP server to the linux/sendmail box
that I'm about to decomnission uses the same IP address and has no
problems.

I'm testing with a friend at another company, and I get a delivery
status notifcation (failure) message, with an attachment that reads as
follows: ___
Reporting-MTA: dns;mycompany.com
Arrival-Date: Thu, 20 Dec 2001 13:03:31 -0800

Final-Recipient: rfc822;[EMAIL PROTECTED]
Action: failed

250-BINARYMIME
250-CHUNKING
250-VRFY
250-X-LINK2STATE
250-XEXCH50
250 OK
___

The logs from his Exchange 2000 server are appended to the end of the
message.

I'm using my personal laptop with a personal offsite account, using
Outlook2000 to send the message, and the outbound SMTP is the new relay
server.

I've set the domain in the default virtual server on IIS5 so that it's
supposed to be using HELO instead of EHLO, but the logs on the Exchange
2000 server at his end (hiscompany.com) indicate that the SMTP service
on my end is still using EHLO.

I've googled and searched support.microsoft.com for clues, to no avail.
Has anyone run into this issue?

Subscribe yourself to the same mailing list, but set your status to NOMAIL.
You can post as yourself and receive your posts in the PF.

Now, if you need to confirm a subscription, unhide the PF from the GAL, then
do a REPLY to the subscription message. Under the VIEW menu, select the FROM
field and put the public folder's address in it.

Is there a way to send as from a public folder? I'd like to have messages
from a mailing list sent directly to a public folder, but in order to
subscribe I need to send as that public folder. I've given myself send
as permissions on the public folder, but it still doesn't work. Any ideas
or is this something that can't even be done?

Late last
week I moved the last of my mail users from an older Alpha NT 4 box onto the
new Windows 2000 server and removed the Alpha from the site. These last users
are the only users that connect thru POP3 access, and with the move to the new
server they can no longer receive emails with attachments. As these are remote
users I checked the firewall etc., and then tried POP3 access in house using
Outlook Express and out of 575 emails with 60 or 70 attachments, I received
only 6 attachments. There are no restrictions on these accounts, and the
attachments vary in size from 20 bytes on up.

Outlook name not resolving

Good afternoon group,

OUTLOOK 98 NT 5.5 SP4

I have a mailbox name that does not resolve when it is typed in its
completed name: Kelli Kappus

When I key in Kell Kap or anything similar it resolves.

The problem I see is the directory name is Kelly.Kappus We found out the
real name was Kelli so we changed it on the general tab.

Is this why the name does not resolve?

the problem was the store stopped and I don't know why. There are no other
errors. It restarted but I can't resolve the issue as to why it stopped - it
seems like a phantom error. One q article related it to the virus checking
software api going into a null state because it was trying to do an update
when an on access scan was occuring. but that wasn't happening. Basically,
I'm wondering if anyone else has had this happen and some possible causes.

I received an Event ID 125 source ESE97. The error was MsExchange(188)
unable to create the log. The drive maybe readonly, out of disk space,
misconfigured, or corrupt Error -1032

This was concurrent with Event ID 193 - Database failed with error -510
hwile trying to log the commit of a transaction.

The IMC failed next and then the Sa reported unexpected network problems.

There is no way that the drive was read only or out of disk space.

Started and stopped the informaiton store and it logged a recovery and
played back logs. Any insight on where to go next with this? THank for
any help

Title: RE: Outlook name not resolving

Hmmm, that curious, I've had to do the same thing because of being given the incorrect spelling on a new employee's name, changing the first, last, display alias has always taken care of the name resolving issue. Almost always it's been the alias that has kept it from resolving

There's no way to change the directory name without deleting the mailbox recreating it.

I don't know what else to suggest

You'll need to change the display name alias as well.

Good afternoon group,

Happy Holidays

OUTLOOK 98 NT 5.5 SP4

I have a mailbox name that does not resolve when it is typed in its completed name: Kelli Kappus

When I key in Kell Kap or anything similar it resolves.

The problem I see is the directory name is Kelly.Kappus We found out the real name was Kelli so we changed it on the general tab.

Is this why the name does not resolve?

I just went through this issue. Microsoft believes it was the virus scanning software
(CA) and the non-aware backups attempting to backup the database, even though the
backups were not running at the time the services stopped. We configured the virus
software (non-exchange aware) not to scan the exchsrvr directories. After resolving
the issue, Microsoft recommended rebuilding the server due to this issue and other
issues in the past. I'm not telling you to rebuild it but prevent your non-exchange
aware virus software from scanning your exchange directories. Once we did that the
services didn't fail, but we did rebuild it anyway due to other issues.

seems like a phantom error. One q article related it to the virus checking

URLScan runs in the %systemroot%\system32\inetsrv\urlscan directory.
Look for urlscan.txt which outlines how to modify the urlscan.ini file.
I know there are some templates for using OWA and ESM with URLScan but
their location escapes me at the moment.
Hope this helps.

Hmmm, that curious, I've had to do the same thing
because of being given the incorrect spelling on a new employee's name,
changing the first, last, display alias has always taken care of the name
resolving issue. Almost always it's been the alias that has kept it from
resolving

There's no way to change the directory name without
deleting the mailbox recreating it.

I don't know what else to suggest

Exchsrvr 5.5 MTA Causing Dr. Watson

Hello everyone! I have NT4 SP6a, Exchange 5.5 SP4. I updated from Exch.
SP3 to SP4 to fix problems with the IMC. The update when well, then after
5 days the MTA generates a Dr. Watson Error and the Event Log shows
EventID 2051 9405. I then ran the MTACheck Utility Twice and every thing
check okay, any ideas.

Have you queried those errors on the MS site. Most of the docs I read said
reinstall the SP. I'd try that first and check out some of the other
scenarios. If you query on Event ID 9405, you'll get more hits

Have you queried those errors on the MS site. Most of the docs I read said
reinstall the SP. I'd try that first and check out some of the other
scenarios. If you query on Event ID 9405, you'll get more hits

Hello everyone! I have NT4 SP6a, Exchange 5.5 SP4. I updated from Exch. SP3
to SP4 to fix problems with the IMC. The update when well, then after 5 days
the MTA generates a Dr. Watson Error and the Event Log shows EventID 2051
9405. I then ran the MTACheck Utility Twice and every thing check okay, any
ideas.

Looks good to me too. I never touched URLScan before though. How do
you
modify its settings? Or do you just leave it alone? I checked the log
file
and it shows that it blocks requests for certain file types, but I was
wondering how you change those types, or if I should just rerun IIS

and it'll change it accordingly?

I
have now tried using Outlook 97 from a old computer at home and it was
able to get all of the attachments.
