Public Folder Replication between sites.
Exchange 5.5. Can I replicate Public Folders between two different domains with a one way trust, or would there need to be a two way trust enabled? Thanks. Robert List Charter and FAQ at: http://www.sunbelt-software.com/exchange_list_charter.htm
Public Folder Replication
In regards to replicating Public folders between two different domains, is this possible, even with a trust (one-way or two-way)? We have two domains, using Exchange 5.5, that we would like to consolidate to one Domain. Any suggestions for the best solution? Thanks. If you want to *move* the server in it's entirety then the Move Server wizard. If you are talking about *replicating* data then InterOrg or MSMail. Exchange behind PIX config
I have modified addresses to protect the innocent. I would be happy to take this topic off line: I have an Exchange 2000 server sitting behind a PIX 515. I want Internet e-mail bound for the Exchange server to pass through the PIX to the Exchange server. I have contacacted the ISP to have them change the MX record to 192.10.10.195. These are the lines I have added to the config: global (outside) 1 192.10.10.196-192.10.10.198 static (inside, outside) 192.10.10.196 10.16.0.2 access-list smtp_in permit tcp any host 192.10.10.196 eq smtp access-group smtp_in in interface outside no fixup protocol smtp 25 The Exchange 2000 Server is 10.16.0.2 , the Outside interface of the PIX is 192.10.10.195 Thanks for the help Chris Bodnar List Charter and FAQ at: http://www.sunbelt-software.com/exchange_list_charter.htm

Define better... 2 NT Domains, or 2 Exchange Organizations? RE: Exchange behind PIX config
Well your problem is with the static line You have the outside IP for the exchange server set to 192.10.10.196 You want to change the 196 to 195 because thats what your DNS record is pointing to. Or change your DNS record to point to 196. MDBDATA Folder and Transaction logs
Ello Everyone, I seem to have a minor annoyance here and I was wondering if anyone could shed a little light on it for me. I understand that the MDBDATA folder keeps transaction logs and it is necessary for a rebuild. However, occasionally when I move mailboxes from the 5.5 server to the E2K server, the MDBDATA folder fills up and causes the mailbox store to dismount. I can go in delete the test files in the MDBDATA folder and remount the store with out any problem. Like I said, more than an annoyance than anything else. Although I have noticed, that this folder never seems to fill up and it usually only has a few megs of info in it. I just dont understand why it fills up and crashes the mounted mailbox store sometimes, and not others. Can anyone explain it to me? What an issue!
I have a question/issue. Our legal dept. would like "read receipts" for all e-mails sent out, once they have been read by the recipient. This message originates from a web server and is sent with a program like "Sendmail" to virtually to every employee here. We have set up a mailbox within the Exchange org which is where they would like the read receipts to return to. They have a script they are using on the app server (see below) that supposedly is set up to send a read receipt but apparently it does not function. I didn't write it and I don't know much about it. It does send a delivery receipt however. In the CDO message object there is a return-receipt-to value to which can be assigned an e-mail address; and this, as far as I understand, should cause read receipt functionality to occur. However, when the web server sends off the message to the recipient, we get back a "delivery successful" notification (which I don't even really want), but then no subsequent "read receipt", even after the message has been opened and closed.I checked the Internet headers for the message (see bottom of message), and the Return-Receipt-To header is part of the message, but it seems to be acting like a delivery notification instead. 1) Am I incorrect on which header should cause the read receipt functionality to work? Or 2) Do I just have the wrong code? Or am I beating a dead horse? I was wondering if thereis a correlation in Exchange/Outlook for which Internet Header "maps" to the read receipt flag in the Outlook client (like it seems the Return-Receipt-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Internet Header "maps" to the Delivery Receipt Requested checkbox in an Outlook message). I did find an article on MSDN that might have something to do with this, assuming I am correct in #1 above. Thanks for the reply. The Global command is where I am getting confused. It was my understanding that I need it, and it couldn't be the IP address of the Outside interface. Is that correct? Exchange 2000 server trying to contact decommissioned 5.5 server
Hello All, I have recently installed a Exchange 2000 server and migrated all of the mailboxes, contacts, public folders over to this server from an Exchange 5.5 server. The 5.5 server has since been removed from the site organization and formatted for other usage. All has been well, I haven't had any issues with clients connecting or mail flow but I do get the following error within the event logs: An RPC communications error occurred. Unable to bind over RPC. Locality Table (LTAB) index: 164, Windows 2000/MTA error code: 1722. Comms error 1722, Bind error 0, Remote Server Name NTSERVER [MAIN BASE 1 500 %10] (14) It seems as if the E2K server is trying to communicate with the removed e55 server. I followed all of the KB articles when I removed the e55 server so I am unsure why it is still trying to communicate with it. The closest articles i see to this issue has something to do with the e55 service account. The site has been converted to native mode so the tab that allows me to change the service account pswd isn't there any more. One thing I do notice is in the Public\System folders. In the System manager, Under Offline address book, I notice there are two entries. One is: /o=Playknits/cn=addrlists/cn=oabs/cn=Default Offline Address List the other is: EX:/o=Playknits/ou=PLAYKNITS Are there supposed to be two entries in this? The other thing I noticed was under the Events Root System Folder, there is an item called EventConfig_NTSERVER. NTSERVER was the name of the E55 server which has been decomissioned. Should I delete this entry. Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated. I keep getting the error messages every 10 minutes. â²Ð¡j»^©Ý¶m§ÿðÃ.·¥¶Ê·«yÊýì\ ©àzX¬µÈZ®×«Ù

Title: Message Read receipts are a warm fuzzy client-side feature that just doesn't work. They do not belong in a corporate setting, in my opinion. False positives generated by the preview pane, short messages read in the preview pane and deleted prior to the preview pane changing message status to 'read', client side responses to not send a read receipt as capable in Outlook2002, and if you are talking for external use, well then it is a total crap shoot and even a successfully returned 'read receipt' holds little or no legal value. Organizing Exchange Address Lists
Hello All, I have been working with a Exchange2k server which i recently migrated users from an Exchange 5.5 server. When the items were on the E55 server, there were several recipient containers that held only contacts (IE: microsoft container would hold all microsoft email contacts, etc). Before I installed the E2K server I created an AD OU called Contacts and under that OU I created OU for each company. The look within the AD Users Computers console looks similiar to how the containers looked under the Exchange 5.5 admin. The only issue now is that when you goto the address book, there are just the usual Global Address list, All Address Lists, All Contacts, etc. The OU's that I created to take the place of the E55 containers are represent in the address book. Is there a way that I can sort this out and have the contacts for each company that is contained within each OU properly represent within the Address Book. If not, would I have to create a sort of address book view, if so how is that done. I just experimented with creating an address list within the E2K sys manager but it doesn't do query based on OU, I can only do it via company name or custom attribute (just checked contacts dont have custom attributes). If that is the only route, I would have to edit all the contacts and add the company name to represent the OU that took the place of the E55 containers. Hope this makes sense, cause I know I would be confused. Any help would be appreciated. ËB ªíz¶§tPjØm¶ÿÃ,ºvÞÛ(~Üç(÷±r§éb²×!j»^®f

RE: Organizing Exchange Address Lists
You create separate address lists using Exchange System Manager as you said. Yes, they arent based on OU. The LDAP filters are still more granular than what you were doing in 5.5. An Address List requirement is also something that would be planned prior to migration, because access can be controlled with perms and policies. Exchange 2000 coexisting with Groupwise 6
Hello, I've set up the Groupwise API gateway for Groupwise version 6 and the MS Novel Groupwise connector for Exchange 2000. After playing with it for a little bit, I've gotten them to exchange directory information, but I haven't gotten them to successfully route messages between the two systems. They both return NDR's with out much helpful information. On the Exchange 2000 side of things, the bounce message is being returned by the Groupwise connector, and the ID of the recipient is correct, but the messages just are making it across the connector. The purpose of this is to give us the time needed to do a migration. We will not be able to do a quick migration...so we will need the co-existance. Also, each system is using the same SMTP domain name. Thanks for the help. RE: Default recipient????
Their friends will still receive the NDR's as well for misspelled names indicating unknown recipient, but so will the postmaster. You do not need a separate mailbox necessarily. You can use any valid SMTP address in your org. There is no catch-all functionality in Exchange.
