Active Synch strange behavior
Hi All, we are in a process of migrating from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007. On Exchange 2003 side we have a SSL certificate to access mails from outside and synch mobile phones. On Exchange 2007 side we have only a self signed certificate. Some migrated users can now synchronize the mobile phone although there is no SSL certificate installed on Exchange 2007. Does someone of you know how this is possible ? Thanks Sascha ~ Ninja Email Security with Cloudmark Spam Engine Gets Image Spam ~ ~ http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Ninja~
RE: list down?
-Original Message- From: Stu Sjouwerman [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] For some reason our list server got listed in spamcop. I run a Lyris server, too. Twice in the past year and a half it's been listed for 24 hours in a UK-based blacklist. The reason has been either the please confirm that you're a human who really does want to subscribe message or the sorry, you aren't a member of the list so you can't post to it message. A couple of the forged addresses being used by spammers are -- surprise, surprise -- spamtrap addresses. So when Lyris does its we don't put you on unless you confirm and we don't let lists be sent to by non-members thing, every once in a while the resulting message goes to a spamtrap address. Examining the message would show that it's not spam (although obviously it's unsolicited). But a couple of the blacklist outfits figure that anything at all that's unsolicited and to a spamtrap address is reason to blacklist. They say that receipt is proof that a list is NOT opt-in, because there's not even an existing person at that address who ever could opt in. Granted, receiving a substantive message to such an address would be proof. But receiving a please confirm message is the opposite. Still, I haven't bothered arguing with the two times it happened to our server, because the blacklist was in the UK, so few of our members were likely to use it. If it starts happening too often, maybe it'll become worth arguing. Don't know if that's what happened here, but it's possible. Re: list down?
I would say its extremely likely. Thanks for posting your experiences. I'm sure it shed some like on the confusing problem for a lot of people who arent familiar with the way many spam trap-based DNSBLs operate. Spamcop will require multiple reports. But if a spammer decides to hit an address via repeatedly-sent multiple-faked senders (a common tactic), inclusion can be easy to achieve. The problem stems from the truly amazing way some of the upper-echelon spammers operate. They employ tactics that not only tell when a message they try to send is rejected from a particular target, but they will have that same message sent from another host IP with a different sender address, to see if it will get through that way. I occasionally monitor my spam trap, and I see this targeted systematic approach happen more and more. Backup Solutions
Hello - I am re-evaluating my backup options to replace my current tape solution as it is rapidly running out of space. In my situation i am trying to backup 150GB-200GB. Is everyone using tape still or have some made the jump to disk-to-disk? Maybe using an off-site backup like iron mountain? I am curious to here other people's solutions and what their experiences have been or possible recommendations. As always your input is much appreciated. Using nothing but 2 TB external USB drives for backup storage. Very inexpensive, easy to grow and reconfigure. Simple script to copy the backups to a remote building once a week. RE: Backup Solutions
We've been talking about disaster recovery (e.g., what if our office burns down) and what we need to do to be sure we have offsite backups. We've considered two options: 1) digital vaulting using a service like Vault Logix and 2) putting a backup device in our colo and backing up to that location. I like Vault Logix because it's a simple install on one central PC and it's agentless. It also supports all the different variety of server OS's we have (Windows, Linux, Solaris). Vault Logix uses the Asigra software package which compresses and encrypts before sending it out. We've also looked at EMC which bought Avamar. Their software is similar to Asigra. EMC bundles it with one of their storage systems for a turnkey solution. Each solution is expensive. Vault Logix charges by the GBs stored. Tivoli in use here, with Disk2Disk2Tape - LTO3 on the back end. However, Exchange is by far not our largest backup, at only about 70gbytes. Our file server at over 2tbytes is the kingpin. Internal external mails are being dropped because we have apparently filled up the Quota for Named Properties or Replica Identifiers for one of our DB's? The solutions we are finding say to either raise the limits with a reg hack and figure out what app or domain is sending emails with unique x-headers; or move all users to a new DB and figure out what app or domain is sending emails with unique x-headers. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb851495(EXCHG.80).aspx Does upgrading E2007 to SP1 fix the issue? ,550 5.2.0 STOREDRV.Deliver: The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service reported an error. RE: Upgrade 2000 to 2003 server
Wow, where to begin... You have two migrations there. AD and Exchange. R U using a new box and moving over to it and retiring the old? Do you have any temporary hardware to get a good online AD server running. How much experience do you have on managing servers in an AD environment? Anyone here will tell you that every migration has it glitches and you must plan and analyze your environment, research potential issues (AV Software, backup software, Exchange Migration research) I doubt you will find anyone that will do a step by step for you without you coming to us with a migration plan and then the group will comment and make suggestions, help you avoid potential pitfalls, and be there as you do the migration itself. Depending on your level of knowledge find a local IT guy with migration experience and have the contract with you to either develop the plan or do it and allow you to be there while they do it.
