I'm wondering if that is only a function of the hosted version of Exchange 2010?

Let me put it another way: there isn't any way to create accounts in OWA (or
ECP, which is the Admin part of OWA).

I don't think I suggested this a feature in the ECP or OWA. I think it's a
permission issue either with inherited permissions not flowing downward or the
permission set in general for this account. That's my initial hunch. The
account in question has Organization management and Recipient management roles.
From what I gather that is all required for this feature set.
Thanks.

Issue: Can create accounts with account in ESM but cannot create accounts in

Platform: E2K10, Windows 2008 R2

I have a customer experiencing this issue where he can create accounts with his
Exchange Admin acct, but cannot perform this same function within Outlook Web
App. I looked through the permission sets and everything seems to lineup
properly. I know it's a permission issue, but I can't quite pin-point which

Anyone ever have this issue? It's driving me nuts! LoL

RE: E2K10 Web Admin Tool

2010-02-24 Thread Michael B. Smith
The capability was present in the E14 beta ECP - but it was pulled before RTM.
That's why I asked my original question the way I did.

The issue is that there was no way at RTM to identify WHERE the accounts were
to be created, and putting them in the default Users container was deemed to be
confusing, at best. And an OU administrator likely doesn't have write access to
that container anyway.

There is an account creation mechanism in hosted Exchange - but it isn't part
of ECP, it's part of the hosting console.

RPC/HTTPS issue

2010-02-24 Thread Bill Lambert
Hello again, all...

I have a user who gets a repeating login screen on his laptop when I try
to configure his email over rpc/https. When logging onto other
computers with the same username, it works! What on earth could be
stopping this connection on that laptop? I don't even know where to
begin troubleshooting.

The laptop is XP Pro with Office 2007 all fully patched. The Exchange
server is 2003 Enterprise also patched.

I sure would appreciate any advice.

Thanks!

Do such resources exist?

2010-02-24 Thread David Lum
Are there any companies that specialize in supporting Exchange in the following
manner: Our in-house Exchange is down, we need an Exchange expert in here
within an hour to help us fix it.

I work for an SMB of about 400 employees and we have clustered Exchange 2007
and I have been tasked to look at outsourcing options to meet some business
requirements, and I was thinking if there was a company that specialized in
Exchange DR that might meet our needs instead of outsourcing.

If it matters I am in the Portland, Oregon area.

RE: Do such resources exist?

2010-02-24 Thread Michael B. Smith
Well, sure. There are consulting companies that offer emergency service, as
well as independents such as myself.

Typically speaking, you are best suited having a relationship with someone
first (so that they have some idea about your configuration and that you have a
level of trust with them). While it is certainly possible to swoop in and save
the day, that level of pressure isn't any fun on either side of the fence.

It's very rare these days that onsite is required. I've got clients all over
North America and a few in the UK. I've physically met few of them, but have a
good relationship with all of them.

Dell ProSupport has a handful of wonderful Exchange Experts that have
always helped me out in the past. I have been very impressed how the
jump onto your case. They can get MS Support on the phone for free too.
Dell may not be your vendor, but you want to check with whomever you

Here are a couple Outlook settings that you may want to check both are in the
Advanced properties of the Exchange account.

1 - From the Connections Tab-- Exchange Proxy Settings... button - Do the
proxy authentication settings for his PC match the other computers? Basic or
NTLM authentication.
2 - From the Security Tab - Do the security settings on his PC match the other
PCs that do not prompt for authentication?
